This 30 minute walking technique has been scientifcally proven to 'better' your overall health.
Over the years there have been many different fitness workouts or hacks trending, but one that has always stuck around is the goal of walking 10,000 steps a day. However, with work schedules and everyday life getting in the way, this can sometimes feel like an unreachable goal.
In order to try and complete this task, some people have found a range of creative ways to integrate the exercise into their lifestyle. Some people choose to incorporate more walks into their free time or breaks, while others are investing in walking pads to use while working or watching TV.
However, if you can't seem to find a way to include this fitness goal into your everyday routine, one fitness coach has revealed a solution. This specific walking method has been proven to be 'better' for your overall health and will only take half an hour, reports the Mirror.
Fitness coach Eugene Teo, who boasted over 401,000 followers on TikTok, has shared a study that suggests another walking technique could be more beneficial for our health and wellbeing.
In his video, he said: "You've probably heard that you should walk 10,000 steps a day. But in 2007, Japanese researchers discovered a walking technique that gives you 10 times the benefits in just 30 minutes."
Developed by researchers in Japan, the Japanese Interval Walking Technique - otherwise known as Intermittent Walking or Interval Walking Training - involves intervals of fast and moderate-paced walking. This method is said to enhance your cardiovascular fitness, metabolism and overall health.
Eugene explained: "So instead of a 10,000 step target, you switch between three minutes of fast walking and three minutes of slow walking for five total sets.
"The results were surprising. Compared to hitting 10,000 steps, this walking protocol showed 29 times boost over aerobic fitness, a ten times improvement in leg strength, and a three times improvement in blood pressure."
According to the study, high-intensity interval walking could combat the increase in blood pressure and decrease in high muscle strength and aerobic capacity that comes with ageing.
Eugene went on: "10,000 steps is still a fantastic target, but it takes around one to two hours of intentional movement. This protocol is just 30 minutes. All movement is medicine, but if you're short on time or want to get the most bang for your buck, this is for you."
In the video's caption, he shared: "I know I can't be the only one who looks at my step count at the end of the day and feel like a failure. Some days, I get around 2,000 steps. I still aim for at least 8,000 a day - but sometimes, life just gets in the way.
"But even if it's only an extra 3000 steps, this simple 30 minute protocol on my walking pad can make a huge difference."
Only uploaded three days ago, the video currently has 5.9million views. After watching the video, some TikTok users shared their thoughts on the new walking technique, while others asked questions.
One user asked: "What speed is fast and what speed is slow?", to which another person replied: "the fast walking normally is fast enough to still keeping a conversation while walking without short in breath. Mine is around 5/6 km/ h."
Another person added: "I think this whole thing is getting misconstrued, yall need to be active, like everyday and that will yield fantastic results. Some days you'll hit 5k some days you'll hit 20k just stay active."
This was followed by a fourth person saying: "I mean it makes sense it's like exercising with a rest but slightly different and less intense."

Furious Covid-19 bereaved demand justice for care homes ‘disgrace'
The Covid-19 Inquiry will on Monday hear from relatives prevented from saying their final goodbyes to loved ones in care homes, while parties were being held in Downing Street Families are demanding that politicians are held to account after describing their heartbreaking final moments with loved ones. This week the UK Covid-19 Inquiry will look at the impact of the pandemic on care homes and how social distancing guidelines meant many relatives were prevented from saying their final goodbyes. Families have told of their anger that ex-PM Boris Johnson 's government had at the same time been holding parties in Downing Street and flouting social distancing rules. The first wave of the pandemic saw the virus sweep through care homes as untested residents were sent there from struggling hospitals. During the first peak between March and June 2020 66,000 people died in care homes, with a third of those deaths attributed to Covid-19. Sharon Cook's parents were care home residents in Hinckley, Leicestershire, and died a week apart in 2020. Sharon, 60, told the Mirror: 'There was no even waving through the window for us because they were on the second floor. 'When we found out the government were having parties it just felt like we were being disrespected. You have to put your grief on hold because you're dealing with your anger because your loss is being disrespected. Then we had all the denials and all these countless thousands of deaths were kind of being written off as some sort of typing error. That government was a disgrace.' Sharon's mum Joan, aged 85, fell ill and had to be taken to hospital and a few days later tested positive for Covid and passed away. Her dad Alf Cook, 87, was a Parkinson's sufferer and was given the news in his care home. Sharon explained: 'Dad had been very much looked after by mum in the care home and suddenly she wasn't there. I think sometimes he thought he was the problem, not the pandemic, and that everyone was wearing masks because of him. 'I'm an only child and I was all he had but at that point there were no more visits. I was really upset about that because I just felt he needed me. He didn't take long then he died. I did wonder if he just gave up because I wasn't allowed in. You just get swamped by grief.' The Mirror revealed in November 2021 that gatherings had taken place in Downing Street when London was under tier 3 restrictions during 2020. They included a number of leaving parties and a Christmas party on December 18. Louise Baker, from Aberdeen, told the Mirror her father Sandy Adam died at his care home two days before the infamous Christmas party. Louise, 49, said: 'Before lockdown dad would come round our house every Sunday for dinner. He had dementia but it wasn't that far progressed that he didn't know who we were. 'After lockdown none of it made sense to him. Initially we could just shout in through a small gap in his tilt window but he was very hard of hearing. We couldn't hug him. I was extremely angry because we found out one of those parties in Downing Street coincided with my dad's death. I'm absolutely furious.' Sandy, a retired dentist, had been allowed a meeting on the car park with Louise before his death at the age of 81 but they were not allowed within five metres of each other. She explained: 'It was so difficult because he felt the cold quite acutely and he was really grumpy. You weren't allowed to hug and like to do anything normal and he couldn't hear us. He just sat there with his arms folded.' Sharon and Louise's accounts will be played today in an impact film at the start of Module 6 in front of inquiry chair Baroness Heather Hallett. Louise added: 'In the next pandemic there has to be a balance struck between the protection of the both people who are vulnerable to infections and their right to dignity and the right to human contact and their right to family life. I'm not pretending I have any of these answers but we need to find a balance. "There needs to be a recognition of the damage being done by the deprivation that people were experiencing, that level of isolation and the removal of basic rites of passage, like being able to see your loved one's body in their coffin.' Among the key government decisions being discussed at the inquiry from this week will be that in March 2020 to rapidly discharge hospital patients into care homes without testing or a requirement for them to isolate. A 2022 High Court judgement that ruled the policy was unlawful as it failed to take into account the risk to elderly and vulnerable care home residents of asymptomatic transmission of the virus. Between early March and early June 2020, nearly 20,000 care home residents in England and Wales died with Covid-19. That's about a third of all care home deaths during that period. Many bereaved care home families, including Sharon Cook, say their loved ones had Do Not Resuscitate - so called DNRs - placed on them against their wishes. Sharon said politicians should be held to account for their handling of the pandemic and subject to criminal proceedings if found to be negligent. She said: 'There needs to be greater accountability. I often say that if it was a pilot that had acted so recklessly and cost people their lives unnecessarily, or if it was a surgeon, there wouldn't be any question about, they would be interrogated and summoned to court. So why are politicians any different? 'It's not right that people with this much power can treat it with such little respect, have such devastating outcomes and no consequences.' Covid-19 Bereaved Families for Justice UK has written an open letter to the inquiry chair Baroness Hallett objecting to the fact that ex-PM Boris Johnson will not appear before the latest module about the social care sector. Jean Adamson, a spokesperson for Covid-19 Bereaved Families for Justice UK, said: 'Bereaved families have waited years for this moment. The care module is one of the most important parts of the Inquiry. It will examine how and why thousands of people were left unprotected in care homes and in the community, and why so many died without support, without dignity, and without accountability. 'But we are seriously concerned about the way this module is being handled. It is unacceptable that Boris Johnson and other key decision-makers will not be called to give evidence.' A Lancet study later found that during the first wave of the pandemic care homes residents were 17 times more likely to die compared to private home residents of a similar age. This compared to a ten times higher risk before the pandemic, as people in residential care are generally more frail and unwell. Covid bereaved families are expected to gather outside the opening of Module 6 of the inquiry today. The £200 million inquiry was set up to examine the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, the UK's response to it and to learn lessons for the next pandemic. Its latest module on the social care sector will take place at Dorland House in Paddington, west London. Ben Connah, Secretary at the UK Covid-19 Inquiry, said: 'Sharon and Louise's stories are so powerful. Sadly, their experiences are not unique. Tens of thousands of people living in care lost their lives to Covid during the pandemic. 'This is why it is so important that the UK Covid-19 Inquiry spends the next five weeks investigating how the virus affected the care sector. Questions will be asked in public of key politicians, scientists, healthcare professionals and other experts. Our Chair, Baroness Heather Hallett, will get answers. 'We will begin with powerful evidence from bereaved individuals. Their experiences are front and centre of our hearings this week. 'The inquiry is making speedy progress. The country must learn the lessons of the last pandemic as quickly as possible - because we all know there will be another one.' This week the inquiry will investigate the impact of the pandemic on the publicly and privately funded adult social care sector in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. It will start with opening statements from core participants and impact evidence from bereaved individuals before an appearance from former Health Secretary Matt Hancock on Wednesday.

'Botched maternity care almost killed me and my baby, I'm traumatised for life'
Following news that the government has launched a 'rapid national investigation' on UK maternity units, Rachel Coles, 30, from Essex, has spoken about the harrowing birth of her son A mum of one said giving birth to her son was an 'absolutely awful' experience amid concerns over UK maternity care. This week, Health Secretary Wes Streeting announced a "rapid national investigation" after it was found that poor care may have contributed to the loss of babies or life-changing injuries in some UK maternity units. During a speech at the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, Mr Streeting announced the inquiry would "address systemic problems dating back over 15 years". He also said: "I know nobody wants better for women and babies than the thousands of NHS midwives, obstetricians, maternity and neonatal staff, and that the vast majority of births are safe and without incident, but it's clear something is going wrong." One parent who suffered a traumatic birth and felt the impact of maternity care in the UK is Rachel Coles, 30, from Essex. "My birth experience was absolutely awful", Rachel exclusively told the Mirror. "My waters broke naturally on September 20 at 1am in the morning, but I didn't give birth until 54 hours later on September 23 2021. READ MORE: Major UK-wide probe into NHS maternity services - what happens next She explained: "They tell you after 24 hours of your waters breaking to go back to the hospital. As I was not progressing and had not reached 4cm dilation, they placed me on the antenatal ward whilst I was experiencing severe contractions. My husband was sent home and was told he could only come back when I was going to be admitted to the labour ward, thanks to Covid. "At 8am on the morning of September 22, I was still on the antenatal unit and given a sweep, which I did not consent to and should not have been done as my waters had broken." Rachel, who is the CEO of marketing agency, Conv3rt ( continued: "Thanks to one lovely midwife, I got moved into a private room, and they called my husband to come and stay with me as they were waiting for a bed on the labour ward, as they then knew I needed to be induced with pitocin. After six hours of labouring that day, we finally got our bed. Bear in mind that all I had up until this point was gas and air. "They finally gave me an epidural after several pleas, and I finally got some sleep as the pitocin drip started to work. My epidural failed twice and had to be redone, and the contractions on the pitocin drip were, quite frankly, the most horrific pain I have ever experienced." Things started to progress for Rachel, but the birth came with severe complications. She shared: "Finally, after what felt like forever, I got told I was ready to push. "At this point, the epidural had completely worn off, and I could feel the pressure. It took two hours of pushing to get my son out, with several doctors in the room as they were concerned he was going to get stuck - I was too exhausted to keep going. "I heard one doctor say, 'We should have given her a C-section hours ago.' Hearing this gave me a final bout of energy, and I finally pushed my son out, hearing the most amazing cry and having him handed to me. "That feeling is like nothing else. However, because I had been contracting for over 50 hours and had been on the pitocin drip for longer than recommended, my placenta had started to disintegrate inside me and when they gave me the injection to birth the placenta, it broke up and had left a small tear in my uterus which caused me to lose almost 4L of blood." Rachel harrowingly recalled: "All I remember as I was losing blood is my son being whisked off me and handed to my husband, about 20 doctors running into the room trying to stop the bleeding and being handed a form that I needed to sign to consent to surgery where it could end in a full hysterectomy if they could not stop the bleeding. "I remember being exhausted and feeling incredibly sleepy, and I knew at that moment, if I died, then at least my son was healthy, and he would live a good life with his dad. I didn't even get a chance to say bye to my husband or son. "I have since found out that my blood pressure had spiked and there were several touch-and-go moments. They administered a medicine that could have caused catastrophic effects due to my blood pressure in a last-minute attempt to stop the bleeding before a hysterectomy would have happened." Three hours later, Rachel woke up in the "high dependency unit" to her husband whispering into her ear. "They needed to give my son formula, and if I wanted to breastfeed, which he knew I did, then I needed to wake up. "I breastfed my son for the first time whilst in and out of consciousness, knowing that somehow I was still alive. I then haemorrhaged again at home four weeks post-birth due to retained placenta, which angered me as during my haemorrhage post-birth, they said they had removed it all. All of the above had a lasting impact. I was diagnosed with depression, anxiety and PTSD." Nic Kane, Chief Nurse, Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust, told the Mirror: "We're so sorry Rachel had such a bad experience giving birth which has had a lasting impact on her health. "We're always trying to learn when things go wrong and improve our care. Since 2021, we've recruited 35 more midwives with a further 12 due to join us in the coming weeks." In response to the Health Secretary announcing a national investigation into NHS maternity services, Rachel shared: "Whilst I am glad the government are acknowledging that there are problems with maternity, it feels like this delays action when there are already recommendations."

Popular gym supplement could help prevent Alzheimer's
Creatine is a popular supplement among gym-goers and bodybuilders, but research suggests it could also benefit the brain and help protect against Alzheimer's disease. A popular supplement used by gym-goers could help lower your risk of Alzheimer's disease. According to a new study, creatine could help boost cognitive health - but one expert has urged caution. Creatine is one of your body's natural energy sources for muscle contraction. It can be found naturally in many protein sources such as meat, seafood and milk. But athletes and bodybuilders often take additional creatine supplements to increase their strength during training. Research has also shown that it could benefit the brain. In a video uploaded to social media platform TikTok, neurologist Doctor Baibing Cheng, explained more. He said: 'Is creatine the new miracle drug for Alzheimer's? 'The same supplement that bodybuilders use is now making headlines in Alzheimer's research.' Dr Baibing, who is better known online as Dr Bing, referenced a recent scientific study that looked into this connection. He continued: 'A recent small pilot study came out suggesting that creatine might help with brain energy metabolism in early Alzheimer's. On the surface the logic makes sense, that creatine supports ATP production - basically cellular energy and Alzheimer's is in part a disease of metabolic failure in the brain.' In the study, which was published in Alzheimer's and Dementia journal, participants with 'mild cognitive impairment' or early Alzheimer's were given creatine for several weeks. Some showed modest improvements in working memory and processing speed. Dr Bing said: 'This sounds great, but here's the key. It was a pilot study - small group, short duration, no long-term outcome data, and this doesn't prove that creatine can prevent or reverse Alzheimer's, only that it's worth studying further.' Further to this he warned that you should never rely on supplements instead of sticking to a healthy lifestyle. 'One thing I always like to emphasise to people is that supplements are not replacements,' he said. 'They're not replacements for what really matters like frequent exercise, Mediterranean-style diet, good sleep, managing your blood pressure and blood sugar, social connection and cognitive engagement.' Creatine also comes with a warning if you have kidney problems or take other medications that could interact badly with the supplement. He added: 'If you choose to take creatine, that's fine, it's your choice, but remember that not all creatine products are created equal. 'The supplement market is barely regulated, so before you start spending a lot of money on powders and pills, talk to your doctors, especially if you have kidney issues or are on other meds.' As part of the trial referenced by Dr Bing the 19 participants took 20 grams of creatine monohydrate, a powder they could mix into the beverage of their choice, every day for eight weeks. Blood draws were conducted at baseline, at four weeks and at eight weeks, and participants underwent magnetic resonance spectroscopy imaging at baseline and at eight weeks to measure creatine in the brain. As reported by the University of Kansas, the study showed an 11 per cent increase in brain creatine levels. Study lead Matthew Taylor commented: 'These preliminary results suggest that there are good things happening here, that creatine has a benefit. This is a great rationale for doing more clinical trials with larger sample sizes. 'There has been evidence in other populations that giving a higher dose of creatine does change brain creatine levels, but seeing it change in Alzheimer's patients was really exciting. That (11 per cent) is a significant increase.'
