10 Famous Figures Who Beat RICO Charges — Including Diddy
Source: Getty / Sean 'P Diddy' Combs Sean 'Diddy' Combs just dodged the biggest legal bullet of his life. In a ruling that dropped today, he was cleared of federal racketeering and sex trafficking charges tied to a sweeping RICO case. He was convicted on lesser counts, but the racketeering charge was the headline. And now, he joins a very exclusive group: public figures who've managed to beat the feds on RICO. If that sounds rare, it is. The RICO Act was designed to dismantle organized crime and criminal enterprises. Once the government charges you under RICO, they've usually spent years building the case. That's why beating it is such a tall order—and why it's national news when someone walks. Diddy's not the first, though. Murder Inc. co-founder Irv Gotti beat federal money-laundering and RICO charges tied to drug money. So did John Gotti, the so-called 'Teflon Don,' who beat multiple RICO trials before his eventual conviction. You've also got names like Jackie DiNorscio, a mob figure who famously represented himself in court—and won. And in the world of hip-hop, 6ix9ine avoided full conviction by flipping, taking a plea deal, and testifying. Whether it's music, mob ties, or viral trials, RICO cases make headlines because they're built to stick. But these 10 figures all found ways—some clean, some controversial—to walk away. And yes, Diddy's name now sits on that list. Diddy Verdict: Not Guilty On 3 Counts; Guilty On 2 Suge Knight Addresses Diddy's Sex Trafficking Trial: 'Tell The Real Truth, And Bring Everybody Accountable' Here Are Some Notable Moments Of Black Culture In 2025 10 Famous Figures Who Beat RICO Charges — Including Diddy was originally published on DJ Drama and Don Cannon were hit with RICO charges in 2007 after an Atlanta raid seized over 80,000 mixtapes. But remarkably, they beat the charges and never served prison time. Partially cleared: acquitted of racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking charges, convicted on lesser prostitution counts in 2025.

Max Homa bluntly addresses why he left X: ‘Safe haven for a–holes'
Golfer Max Homa had made a name for himself outside of the golf course on X, where he built up a sizable following, and shocked everyone when he announced earlier this year he was leaving the social media platform. Speaking with reporters at TPC Deere Run ahead of the John Deere Classic, Homa addressed why he stepped away from X and how it's become a 'safe haven for a–holes.' 'The reason for that is just the vitriol you read online. It has become a safe haven for people who are, I think, angry at themselves. It is quite absurd how comfortable people feel writing awful things,' Homa said. Getty Images 'Twitter or X or whatever is an awful, awful place. It took me a while to catch on to how impactful that can be and how much of a waste of energy. I miss the connection with the fans, but nothing comes without so much hate and anger. There's a lot of love in there, too, but, unfortunately, it gets overwhelmed with one really bad one.' Advertisement Homa, 34, suggested that the encroachment of legal sports gambling could have led to some of the vitriol that has permeated online over the years. 'People say some bad, bad things on the internet. You get people telling you you should die on the internet. It has nothing to do with not connecting. I'd love to keep connecting with people, but I try to do it in person a bit more because I have yet to meet somebody in person who has said anything even remotely mean. 'It's a safe haven for a–holes, for lack of a better term. Sorry, PGA Tour.' Max Homa walks on the eighth green during the second round of the Rocket Mortgage Classic golf tournament. Aaron Doster-Imagn Images Advertisement In March, when Homa had stepped away from the platform, he called X a place 'for the sick' and that he was 'sick' for how much he used X. Homa has struggled recently, missing seven cuts in 16 tournaments this season. He only has one top-25 finish, which came at The Masters.

Judge Denies Bail for Sean 'Diddy' Combs Following Guilty Verdict in Federal Trial
Source: Variety / Getty Sean 'Diddy' Combs will remain behind bars after a federal judge denied him bail Tuesday, just hours after a jury found the music mogul guilty on two federal charges related to transporting women across state lines for illegal sexual activity. Judge Arun Subramanian ruled against Combs' release as concerns mounted from victims' advocates about the safety of witnesses and alleged survivors connected to the case. The decision came shortly after a partial guilty verdict was delivered in the high-profile trial that has gripped the entertainment industry for months. A New York federal jury convicted Combs on Count 3 and Count 5, both violations of the Mann Act, for transporting two women, including singer Casandra 'Cassie' Ventura and another former girlfriend referred to as 'Jane,' across state lines for illicit purposes. However, the jury acquitted Combs on three other charges, including the most serious: Count 1, racketeering conspiracy. He was also found not guilty of sex trafficking allegations tied to both women. The mixed verdict followed over 14 hours of deliberation and concluded a seven-week trial marked by explosive testimony. More than 30 witnesses, including former staff, industry insiders, and alleged victims, detailed a disturbing pattern of abuse, coercion, and systemic coverups that prosecutors claimed were orchestrated from within Combs' inner circle. Despite his acquittal on racketeering and sex trafficking counts, the Mann Act convictions carry serious legal consequences and could result in a significant prison sentence. Victims' rights attorney Gloria Allred weighed in on the ruling during an interview with CNN, applauding the judge's decision to deny bail and highlighting broader concerns about witness safety. 'I am very concerned about Mr. Combs being released on bail,' Allred said. 'Some of [the potential witnesses] were on the witness list turned over to the defense but have not been made public. They overcame a lot of fear just to speak to law enforcement and tell the truth. And they were very much afraid.' Allred stressed that the fear and trauma these individuals have faced should not be underestimated, especially now that Combs' legal fate is in the hands of the court. Combs, 55, remains in federal custody as sentencing preparations begin. Sentencing has been set for Oct. 3 at 10 a.m. SEE ALSO Judge Denies Bail for Sean 'Diddy' Combs Following Guilty Verdict in Federal Trial was originally published on
