Michigan football in the hunt for Georgia's four-star linebacker Anthony Davis Jr.
The Wolverines have been hitting the South hard in the 2026 recruiting cycle with a player already committed from Georgia, another from Florida, and another in Texas. And the maize and blue are working hard on several others in all three of those states.
Grayson is a powerhouse high school in Loganville, Georgia, just east of Atlanta, that's produced some of the best talent in the country for decades. There are several prospects over the years that Michigan football has worked hard to bring into the fold, with the latest to actually come to Ann Arbor being standout right tackle Trente Jones.
Now there's another that the maize and blue strongly covet. But it's going to be difficult to pull him out of SEC country, given the other schools he's interested in.
Michigan makes the top group for a four-star linebacker
From said Loganville (Ga.) Grayson, four-star linebacker Anthony Davis Jr. revealed his final five schools in advance of taking his official visits starting on Friday. And the one outlier is Michigan football, with the other five hailing from the SEC footprint.
The bad news for the Wolverines is that Davis is set to visit Auburn this week, Ole Miss next week, and Alabama on June 20. He's set to see Ann Arbor on June 13, giving the maize and blue a chance to overcome his other SEC finalists. Florida is not listed as having an official visit forthcoming, but he's been to Gainesville three times already.

Davis is listed as the No. 174 overall prospect according to Rivals, which is the highest on the 6-foot-2, 205-pound linebacker. He's listed as a consensus four-star, with only On3 having him as a three-star in its proprietary rankings.
There are no predictions yet as to where Davis will end up at the next level. He is committed to play in the Under Armour All-America Game at year's end.

Inside Michigan football fall camp ‘bunker': #LockedIn, ‘turnt up' practice and ‘we're gonna be really good'
ANN ARBOR, Mich. — has ramped up practices to the point of putting on pads for the first time Saturday, and the team is nearing the end of its first week of fall camp. Before the first practice last Wednesday, second-year head coach summoned to his team to stay off of social media as they prepare for the Aug. 30 opener against New Mexico and the 2025 campaign. Tuesday night, Moore, staff members and players essentially signed off by posting the hashtag #LockedIn. 'Coach Moore challenged us to kinda stay off social media, go into the bunker,' graduate EDGE said. 'I like to think of it as going up into the mountains, just going for a month and doing what you gotta do. No social media for the team.' The no social media guideline is in place for fall camp, but Guy thinks some Wolverines may take it into the season. 'I could see it carrying out through, too, because I feel like what it really does is, as young people, we go on our phone and start scrolling,' Guy noted. 'Without that scrolling mindlessly, we can be productive and do something good.' It's a 'self-challenge,' Guy said, adding that he doesn't believe it's being policed but that 'maybe they're watching.' 'Turnt up' practice leads to realization Michigan held a practice over the weekend that stood out to Guy and made him come to a realization. 'Really good,' Guy said of the vibes in fall camp. 'Really high spirits and everything like that. For me personally, after that night practice we had two days ago before the off day, I was like, 'We're gonna be really good. We have a lot of talent on this team.' Good spirits. The practice was really good.' It wasn't just offense, defense or special teams, either. It was everybody. 'The whole team — Michigan football,' Guy added. 'We just have playmakers everywhere. We're a close-knit group, building the continuity. 'It was the first day we were really turned up, for real. We were flying around. It was just good to see offensive guys making plays, defensive guys flashing. It was good.' A common theme for the Michigan defense this season — after losing four top-90 NFL Draft picks off of last year's elite unit — is 'depth.' The Wolverines have multiple players that will see time at every position, planning to rotate quite a bit, especially in the front seven. 'Fresh bodies in the game, and once we all have the same 11 on the field at all times, if that makes sense — no matter who's in, you just have fresh bodies the entire game, which can destroy offenses,' Guy explained. On the other side, the Michigan offense has taken leaps from a year ago. 'One hundred percent — individually, collectively as a group,' Guy said of the improvement he's seen. 'The O-line, tight ends, receivers, quarterbacks, running backs — they all look way a step ahead from last year.' The Michigan offense is projected to have a freshman at quarterback — , the No. 1 overall recruit in the 2025 class — and Guy believes the defense is helping prepare him for what he'll see this year. 'You know us, we're a great defense,' Guy said. 'He's not gonna see too many defenses better than us. He's not gonna see too many defenses doing too much more crazy things than we do. I feel like it's a great test for him.' Michigan was picked as the fifth-best team in the Big Ten in the conference's unofficial media poll, and the Wolverines checked in No. 14 nationally in the preseason coaches poll. They're not seriously looked at as a national title contender, but that kind of talk isn't what Guy is interested in. 'I know that we're gonna attack each week trying to win the game,' the Michigan EDGE said. 'However that shakes out, that's how it's gonna shake out. 'I know me personally — and I know many guys in here would agree with me — we don't really care about any of that, for real. We just try to work on our technique, hand placement, eyes, alignment, assignment … and all of that is gonna take care of itself.'

Michigan football bolsters 2027 class with 3-star Texas OL Tristan Dare over top programs
Michigan football is still waiting on some hopeful good news on the 2026 recruiting class front, but it's now starting to build a foundation in the 2027 class -- and where else, but along the offensive line. The Wolverines already have one commitment in 2027 in Saline (Mich.) three-star offensive lineman Louis Esposito (son of defensive line coach Lou Esposito). But on Monday, the maize and blue added another OL to bolster the class. Hailing from Southlake (Tx.) Carroll, Tristan Dare is a three-star that has an offer sheet that reads more like a high-four-star prospect. He committed to the Wolverines on Monday over Florida, Florida State, Nebraska, North Carolina, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, Penn State, and others. Dare is expected to be an interior player along the offensive line and is listed at 6-foot-4, 290 pounds as he prepares to enter his junior year of high school. He is ranked at No. 496 overall, regardless of position, according to the 247Sports Composite. With two commitments in the fold, Michigan is now ranked No. 19 in the 247Sports team rankings for the 2027 recruiting cycle -- which hasn't really gotten underway just yet.

Joel Klatt expects Michigan to be back among college football's elite in 2025

'I just love the way that they finished the season,' . 'This is a defense that got it going late in the year. Even with their star players not playing, they cannot be worse on offense than they were a year ago. And you know what? I think they're going to be back among the elite in college football. 'This team figured things out at the end of the year. They beat . They beat — basically, without an offense… There's no way they can be that bad throwing the ball again.' Michigan's offense was its downfall last season, particularly the team's passing game. Michigan averaged just 129.1 passing yards per game, the fourth-least in the country. The three teams that averaged fewer passing yards per game were all service academies. The Wolverines worked hard this offseason to ensure they won't face the same issue in 2025. Michigan brought in five-star freshman , who was the No. 1 player in the 2025 recruiting cycle. While Underwood has competition, he is the current favorite to land the starting role. Whoever is Michigan's QB1 this fall, the team should have a much-improved passing game. Klatt isn't nearly as concerned for Michigan's defense, which is returning just five starters from last season. 'I know they're going to have to replace some really talented players, in particular on the defensive front seven,' Klatt said. 'But, remember, without those players on the defensive front seven, without on the edge, they handled Alabama just fine. And that was an Alabama offense that still had , that still had , and was playing at full capacity. Michigan should be better. 'Their schedule is not that bad. If you look at that Oklahoma game, it's really the barometer. They're going to go travel to Norman, Oklahoma. And if they win that game, then watch out. This is a CFP team.' On Aug. 30, Michigan will kick off its 2025 campaign with a showdown against at 7:30 p.m. ET. The game will air live on NBC.
