Odisha emerged victorious in the NTPC Em-Power Cricket Series for visually impaired girls, defeating Andhra Pradesh, in the final match.
Cricket Association for the Blind in Andhra Pradesh and Kerala organised the event, which was sponsored by NTPC Simhadri, said secretary -Ajay Kumar Reddy.
Odisha won the toss and chose to bat first, scoring 109 runs in 15 overs with the loss of 6 wickets. Phula Saran top-scored with 39 runs off 39 balls, while Rachana Jena contributed 14 runs off 12 balls. N Sujata, S Mikka, and Ravani each took 1 wicket for Andhra Pradesh.
In response, Andhra Pradesh fell short of the target, scoring 80 runs for 10 wickets in 15 overs. P Prema Kumari scored 42 runs off 43 balls. Odisha won the match by 29 runs, with Basanthi Hamsanda playing a crucial role.
The tournament featured four teams: Kerala, Delhi, Odisha and Andhra Pradesh. During the final match, GVMC deputy Mayor D. Govind Reddy participated in the closing ceremony on Wednesday. The NTPC Simhadri head Sameer Sharma distributed trophies to the winning and runner-up teams.

The Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region Development Authority (VMRDA) has given approvals for the construction of residential towers at Madhurawada and an affordable multi-storeyed housing project for the middle-class, in the city. Several crucial proposals were cleared during the VMRDA meeting held under the leadership of its Chairman, M.V. Pranav Gopal, on Friday. Principal Secretary, MAUD, Suresh Kumar was also present. In a statement released by VMRDA Chairman M.V. Pranav Gopal and VMRDA Commissioner K.S. Viswanathan said that approvals were given for the construction of six residential towers (50 floors each) on a 4.07-acre site at 331/1 in Madhurawada under a Joint Venture/PPP model. The towers will include 3BHK and 4BHK flats, 4BHK duplexes, along with a clubhouse, swimming pool, pool deck, children's play area, cycling track, jogging track, and other modern amenities. Meanwhile, the officials have also given permission for the construction of multi-storey apartment complexes —2BHK, 2.5BHK, and 3BHK in Midhilapuri Colony (Madhurawada), Marikavalasa, Veeragunta, and other VMRDA lands. These will be developed in the PPP model to provide affordable housing to the middle-class families. The authorities have approved the construction of the State's first international-standard 'Skateboard Park' near the skating rink at VMRDA Park on Beach Road, with an estimated cost of ₹2.50 crore. The park is anticipated to host the 63rd National Roller Skating Championships. Approvals were also given to construct a park in 5.68 acres of land at 608/1P in Kotturu village in Anakapalli district, with a proposed cost of ₹5.35 crore. Meanwhile, administrative clearance was also given for VMRDA-GVMC road development project between Vepagunta and Pinagadi.

GVMC opens new sports complex in Gajuwaka

Visakhapatnam: The Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) has developed the Rajiv sports complex, located in Vikas Nagar, with several sporting facilities, including an indoor stadium, swimming pool, and cultural centre. GVMC mayor P Srinivasa Rao, along with Visakhapatnam MP M Sribharat, TDP state president and Gajuwaka MLA Palla Srinivasa Rao, deputy mayor Dalli Govindaraju, and 65th ward corporator Boddu Narasimha Pathrudu, jointly inaugurated the newly developed sports facilities at the Rajiv sports complex. As part of the inauguration, a badminton court was officially opened inside the indoor stadium, where the dignitaries took part in a game of badminton. Addressing the gathering, the mayor said that, as Gajuwaka is an industrial hub, there is a strong need to provide a recreational and wellness-oriented sports complex for the public. He urged residents to maintain cleanliness and make regular use of the facilities to safeguard their health. Vizag MP M Sribharat expressed his pleasure at such a state-of-the-art stadium being made accessible to the people of Gajuwaka. He suggested to the Mayor that a pickleball court also be established at the complex soon. He noted that, due to increasing dependence on mobile phones, people are neglecting physical activity, exercise, and mental well-being, leading to various health issues. He called on parents to encourage their children to participate in sports, highlighting the vital role that sports play in promoting good health.
