710 cops on roads will keep Ghaziabad on the move, help unclog borders
The new traffic plan, rolled out Monday, divides the city into three zones and nine sub-zones to streamline oversight and improve response times.
Each of the three new traffic zones will be overseen by an assistant commissioner of police, up from a single ACP previously.
It also increases traffic personnel deployed on road from 565 to 710, with the number of traffic inspectors increased from six to nine, and sub-inspectors from 86 to 135. Until now, the city had six sub-zones, each under an inspector.

Officials said the move was aimed at ensuring smooth vehicular flow on key stretches and managing the large volume of cross-border traffic between Ghaziabad, Delhi, and Uttarakhand.
"Given Ghaziabad's strategic location, the city requires a traffic system capable of handling intense movement throughout the day," additional commissioner of police (law and order) Alok Priyadarshi said. Ghaziabad police commissionerate is also divided into three zones – city, trans-Hindon and rural – each headed by a DCP.
Duty points have also gone up from 181 to 216. These will now be manned in two shifts to ensure round-the-clock coverage, especially at congested areas such as Lal Kuan, Mohan Nagar, and Meerut trisection.

Officials say the structural overhaul is intended to halve this toll. "Our objective is to bring down accidents through better enforcement, visibility, and infrastructure," Priyadarshi added.
A tougher approach to traffic violations is also being introduced. Repeat offenders face suspension of driving licences and vehicle registration certificates. E-rickshaws, which are a common sight on city roads, will be restricted to designated routes and tracked using a centralised ID system.
Efforts are also underway to improve road safety on major highways.
Delhi-Meerut Expressway (DME) and NH-9 will soon feature reflective signage at underpasses and exits, while iron railings are to be installed from UP Gate to Dasna to prevent pedestrian spillover. Cameras equipped with Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) technology, part of the city's Integrated Traffic Management System, will help detect wrong-side driving and issue challans.
T
he ITMS with AI-powered e-challan technology has currently been implemented at 41 junctions. Hi-tech cameras are to be installed at 41 more junctions, including Hapur Tri-junction to Mohan Nagar, Mohan Nagar to Seemapuri border, Tulsi Niketan to Nag Dwar, Elevated Road to Hapur Chungi, ALT to Meerut trisection, Hapur Chungi to Atma Ram Steels, Old Bus-Stand to Ambedkar Road, and Hapur Tri-junction to Lal Kuan.
A centralised command centre is also in the works.
Additional lighting and rumble strips will also be added where needed, police said. Emergency preparedness is also being enhanced, with a citywide database of trauma centres, hospitals and ambulance services set to be made available at the police control room.
Neighbouring Noida has already implemented a similar model, with three ACPs deployed in order to manage traffic in different zones and a 500-strong force stationed at nearly 200 locations across the city.

Hero MotoCorp Q1 Preview: Revenue, Profit seen declining amid volume weakness and EV drag
Hero MotoCorp is likely to report a muted set of numbers for the quarter ended June 2025, with both revenue and profit expected to decline year-on-year, weighed down by weak volumes, supply constraints, and rising pressure from increased electric vehicle (EV) contribution. An average of estimates from five brokerages suggests a 6% year-on-year fall in revenue, while net profit is seen declining by about 5% compared to the same period last year. While realizations are expected to rise 7–10% YoY—driven by a richer product mix, price hikes, and higher contribution from spare parts and exports—it is unlikely to offset the volume hit. Kotak Institutional Equities expects revenue to drop 2% YoY, aided by a 7% increase in average selling price (ASP). It sees EBITDA margin contracting 30 bps YoY to 14.1%, with the bottom line falling accordingly. Motilal Oswal forecasts a steeper 60 bps margin decline to 13.8%, citing a higher EV mix and weak ICE (internal combustion engine) sales. It expects PAT to fall about 7% YoY. Live Events Nuvama echoes the volume-led revenue decline and adds that product launch expenses and lower scale will also weigh on operating margins. It notes that demand commentary will be key. Phillip Capital sees a 1% sequential decline in volume, hurt by a 36% QoQ drop in exports. While ASP is expected to increase marginally QoQ to Rs 73,071, commodity costs and rising EV contribution are expected to squeeze the EBITDA margin by 26 bps to 14%. PAT may see a marginal 2% QoQ growth, it notes. YES Securities estimates a 2% YoY revenue decline to ~Rs 9,940 crore, with margins falling 40 bps YoY to 14%. Adjusted PAT is seen at Rs 1,070 crore, down 4.7% YoY. Hero is expected to report its Q1FY26 earnings later this week. All eyes will be on the management's demand outlook—particularly in the rural and entry-level segments—as well as any updates on its EV roadmap. 'One Of You Is Going To Lose...': McLaren Boss Gearing Up For Disappointment At End Of F1 Season
With Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris just nine points apart, McLaren boss Zak Brown will have to handle the situation sensitively. McLaren boss Zak Brown is preparing to face disappointment at the end of the Formula One season, despite the team enjoying one of their most dominant years and celebrating their 200th grand prix win over the weekend. As the title battle between Oscar Piastri and teammate Lando Norris intensifies, with the McLaren pair separated by just nine points after Sunday's Hungarian Grand Prix, the American admitted he was also thinking about how to handle the aftermath. Red Bull's reigning champion Max Verstappen, the McLaren drivers' closest rival, is now 97 points behind and told reporters over the weekend that he might not win again this year due to his car's issues. Even before the weekend, both Piastri and Norris declared it a two-horse race. One of them will undoubtedly end the year celebrating a dream come true. The other will lament what could have been, with a new engine era next season potentially shaking things up again and opportunities possibly vanishing. Losing always stings, especially when it's to a teammate with the same car, and Brown said McLaren would have to handle the situation delicately when – although he still insisted on saying if – the time came. 'Eventually… we'll just sit down and actually have a conversation and go 'right, one of you is going to win and it's going to be the best day of your life. One of you is going to lose. How do you want us to handle that?'," he told a select group of reporters. 'We'll actually sit down and go 'Right, you want us to jump up and down and celebrate? This guy won.' So we're fully aware and sensitive to 'how do you celebrate that situation?'" Australian Piastri has won six races to Norris's five, but the Briton has momentum going into the August break, with three wins from his last four starts. The pair have had seven one-two finishes from 14 races, including the last four, and have left rivals trailing. McLaren are so far ahead in the constructors' standings – 299 points over Ferrari – that the crown is a given. Much has been made of the potential for a falling out between friends, for clashes on track given what is at stake, but Brown was calm and said the relationship was only growing stronger. When Norris ran into the back of Piastri as he challenged for the lead in Canada in June, the Briton defused the situation by immediately taking responsibility. Piastri locked up behind Norris in Hungary on Sunday, in what could have been a repeat of that Montreal accident, but no contact was made. Brown said there was no 'elephant in the room' at McLaren, with the drivers having complete transparency on strategy and how the team go about racing, and he expected more close calls in the future. 'There's competitiveness brewing… as the championship builds, I'm sure that tension will grow," said the boss. 'We're fully anticipating them 'swapping paint' again at some point, I'm very confident it won't be deliberate, which is where you then get into the problems. 'They will have racing incidents during their time at McLaren, we know that and they know that, so we're not afraid of that. 'I'm positive they're never going to run each other off the track, and that's where you get into bad blood. So they're free to race… there are rules around our racing, which is respect your teammate, they know that."
