Cops bust snatching syndicate; 6 arrested
Delhi Police
has busted an inter-state mobile phone snatching and smuggling racket, arresting six individuals—including a snatcher, a receiver, a courier company employee, two West Bengal-based smugglers, and the snatcher's wife.
The racket came to light on June 25 following a spate of mobile phone snatchings in east Delhi's Preet Vihar, Mandawali, and Patparganj Industrial Area. "The anti-narcotics squad reviewed over 400 CCTV clips and identified Salman (37), a habitual offender from New Usmanpur. He was arrested along with the scooty used in at least six reported snatching cases," said DCP (East) Abhishek Dhania.
During interrogation, Salman revealed that he would hand over the stolen phones to Shafi Ahmad alias Teepu, who in turn routed them through Bhupendra, an employee at a courier company.
Bhupendra confessed to sending the devices to Malda, West Bengal, in exchange for a commission.

A police team then travelled to Malda and apprehended two more suspects—Mohammad Rehman Sekh (35) and Emarul Kayues (36)—who admitted to smuggling the stolen phones into Bangladesh. Police recovered 27 stolen mobile phones from their possession.
The financial trail led investigators to Salman's wife, Gulbahar (37), who was found receiving payments from the illegal phone transactions into her bank account. tnn

State finance minister Harpal Cheema alleged that the BJP has been "protecting" Lawrence Bishnoi. The gangster has been in Sabarmati Jail in Gujarat - a state the BJP has been ruling for the last 30 years - since 2014. "We have taken action in the Abhor murder case... It is sad that he is targeting Punjab sitting in Gujarat," Mr Cheema had told reporters. "Why he (Bishnoi) has been given the protection and why has he been kept in jail? Who took Lawrence Bishnoi to Gujarat and why is he being safeguarded there? The BJP seems to be protecting him so that he can be used to create unrest in states ruled by opposition parties," Mr Cheema had alleged. "In states where the BJP is not in power, they are using criminals and gangsters to disturb peace. This is a dangerous conspiracy against the nation's federal structure and law and order," he added.

Pakistan's political, military brass ordered hit at Pahalgam: Officials
File photo: Army jawans on alert in the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attack (Picture credit: PTI) NEW DELHI: The April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam that claimed the lives of 26 civilians was a conspiracy hatched by Pakistan's ISI and terror group Lashkar-e-Taiba on the directions of the country's political and military brass and executed exclusively by Pakistani terrorists , according to sources in the security establishment. In what sources described as an LeT-ISI project akin to the 26/11 Mumbai attack, ISI gave specific directions to Pakistan-based Lashkar commander Sajid Jutt to deploy only foreign terrorists operating in J&K. To ensure secrecy, no Kashmiri terrorist was taken on board. He was directed to ensure minimal local involvement on a "need-to-know" basis. The attack was led by Sulaiman, a suspected former Pakistani special forces commando who had participated in training at LeT's Muridke hub in Pakistan's Punjab before crossing the LoC into the Jammu region in 2022. Two other Pakistanis were also in the hit squad. Satellite phone analysis has revealed that Sulaiman's location on April 15 was in Tral forest, indicating he was in the vicinity of the attack site at Baisaran for almost a week before the incident. Sulaiman was also involved in the April 2023 attack on an Army truck in Poonch in which five soldiers were killed. However, he laid low for the next two years. Sources did not reveal the identities of the two other Pakistani terrorists. Although J&K Police had suspected the role of Pakistani terrorists Hashim Musa and Ali Bhai, probe has only confirmed Sulaiman's role till now. There is no corroboration of the role of local terrorist Adil Hussain Thoker as a facilitator, either. Even the two locals arrested by NIA last month - Parvaiz Ahmad Jothar and Bashir Ahmad Jothar, both from Pahalgam - are believed to have had a limited role, having provided the Pakistani terrorists food, shelter and other logistics in return for a few thousand rupees. They have also denied any knowledge of the terrorists' plan to hit tourists in Baisaran. There are currently about 68 foreign terrorists and three local terrorists active in the Valley.

C'garh cops ‘kidnapped' 8 Nadia workers: Mahua
Kolkata: Eight construction workers from Nadia, engaged by a Chhattisgarh-based private construction agency to work in Bastar's Kondagaon, had been "kidnapped" by Chhattisgarh police on July 12 and put in Jagdalpur prison, Trinamool's Krishnanagar MP Mahua Moitra alleged on Monday. Moitra said the workers' phones were switched off and the families had lost contact with them. The MP said these extra-judicial detentions took place despite the eight having valid Aadhaar and EPIC cards. In a statement on X, Moitra said: "They have been sent to prison under 128 BNSS, earlier 109 CrPC, which allows cops to act if they suspect anyone is hiding to avoid committing a cognizable offence. But the legal provisions stipulated have been completely ignored, no hearings were given. The police detained them on July 12, and now they are in prison." Moitra said the SP — who is from Andhra and working in Chhattisgarh — could not respond to her queries. Moitra also posted the police verification reports of the eight detainees. Officers from Nadia's Thanarpara police station, under whose jurisdiction the eight live, have testified that they checked the EPIC and Aadhaar cards of all eight workers, and they were all Indian citizens. "Which law allows police to detain people who are Indian citizens to work anywhere in India?" the MP said.
