Queen to appear in favourite author's new crime thriller about killer in Palace
Camilla is depicted travelling aboard the Royal Train when disaster strikes and it derails, and a trusted aide is shot by a sniper, leading Grace to head to the Palace to investigate, the Daily Mail revealed.
The Queen is understood to have been aware of the book.
James – one of Camilla's favourite authors – is said to have carried out extensive research about the famous royal residence.
In the publicity for the novel, publisher Pan Macmillan describes James as the 'Creator of Her Majesty Queen Camilla's favourite fictional detective'.
It says of the plot: 'A tragic accident or a planned attack?… Despite all the evidence, Roy Grace is not convinced the Queen was the intended target… Failure at this level is not an option. But time is running out before a killer in the Palace will strike again.'
The also King features in The Hawk Is Dead: A Killer In The Palace, which is due out in October.
The Queen, a voracious reader and passionate supporter of a number of literary charities, previously recommended James's blockbusters as part her Reading Room book club.
In 2021, she visited the set of Grace – ITV's television adaptation of James's books which stars John Simm as the troubled but methodical detective – and joked about asking for a cameo role.
She told James: 'I love your books. I've read them all, cover to cover.'

Chiefs star breaks silence on impending jail sentence after causing crash on Dallas highway
Kansas City Chiefs star Rashee Rice insists he's 'completely changed' since his hit-and-run crash on a Dallas highway that was captured in a viral video last year. Rice was estimated to be speeding at 119mph before the collision, which resulted in several injuries for other motorists and passengers back in 2024. The wide receiver has since been sentenced to five years' probation and 30 days of jail time - which can be served at any time over the next five years. As he awaits a verdict from the league on his punishment, Rice has been at the Chiefs training camp and, on Saturday, took time to speak to reporters about the 2024 crash. He explained: 'I´ve completely changed. You have to learn from things like that. I've learned and taken advantage of being able to learn from something like that.' In a related lawsuit, Rice has agreed to pay $1million to a plaintiff who sued him over the 2024 crash, according to court documents obtained by Daily Mail. Rice is also being forced to pay $75,000 in pre-judgement interest and $12,000 in plaintiff attorney fees. The Chiefs are bracing for Rice to serve an NFL suspension. League spokesman Brian McCarthy said in a statement recently that the case 'remains under review.' 'My legal team is handling all that,' Rice said. 'All I can focus on is what I can control right now and that's me doing what I do.' The Lamborghini went onto the shoulder and hit the center median wall, causing a chain-reaction collision. Four people in the other vehicles were treated for minor injuries. Haverfordwest alpaca farm to reopen after bird flu outbreak
Seven chickens at Sweet Home Alpaca in Haverfordwest were found dead at the end of June, with tests showing they had died from the disease. This resulted in the remaining 113 chickens at the farm being culled. The farm was then forced to close temporarily, meaning no alpaca experiences could take place. However, owner Angela Frayling-James has now shared the good news that some of the restrictions have been lifted, meaning the farm can reopen on Monday, August 4. Ms Frayling-James said: "I'm so excited. "We've just had the news that some of the restrictions on the farm have been lifted. "We've just been told we can start having customers again from Monday, August 4, onwards. "It's just amazing news after the past few weeks." The farm had been closed since the start of July after the bird flu outbreak was confirmed, meaning the popular alpaca walks, talks, and experiences had been unable to take place. This had left the owners unable to make a living. A GoFundMe page was set up to help the farm, which has so far raised more than £7,000 of a £9,000 target. On the page, organiser Peter said: "Angela and Alex rely on their alpaca experiences to make a living, and now being shut down due to a totally unexpected case of bird flu has halted all operations. "Currently, no guests can visit and enjoy a fun-filled day with the alpacas, no events can experience their alpacas taking part, and most importantly, Angela and Alex have lost so much that they have spent the last six years building up towards." Sweet Home Alpaca, which was named the best tour and attraction in Pembrokeshire for 2024 by TripAdvisor, is now looking for people to help them get the farm ready for the official reopening day on Monday. Ms Frayling-James added: "We've still got a really long way to go to getting the farm fully reopened, but we just want to say thank you to everyone who has sent us a message and all our donors, whoever you are, thank you so much. "Thank you to everyone who has reached out and offered us help. "We love every single one of you, and honestly without all of you we would not have been able to get through this."
