Chiefs star breaks silence on impending jail sentence after causing crash on Dallas highway
Rice was estimated to be speeding at 119mph before the collision, which resulted in several injuries for other motorists and passengers back in 2024.
The wide receiver has since been sentenced to five years' probation and 30 days of jail time - which can be served at any time over the next five years.
As he awaits a verdict from the league on his punishment, Rice has been at the Chiefs training camp and, on Saturday, took time to speak to reporters about the 2024 crash.
He explained: 'I´ve completely changed. You have to learn from things like that. I've learned and taken advantage of being able to learn from something like that.'
In a related lawsuit, Rice has agreed to pay $1million to a plaintiff who sued him over the 2024 crash, according to court documents obtained by Daily Mail.
Rice is also being forced to pay $75,000 in pre-judgement interest and $12,000 in plaintiff attorney fees.
The Chiefs are bracing for Rice to serve an NFL suspension. League spokesman Brian McCarthy said in a statement recently that the case 'remains under review.'
'My legal team is handling all that,' Rice said. 'All I can focus on is what I can control right now and that's me doing what I do.'
Despite his looming punishment, Rice is looking to make a comeback following a ligament injury suffered in Week 4 - after colliding with Patrick Mahomes - which ended his entire 2024 season.
The wide receiver underwent surgery to resolve the issue and has since been back in action during summer workouts.
He continued: 'I feel 100%. I'm excited to be back out here with the guys. Just kind of basically where I left off at.
'The only thing is get back on the field and continue to have fun doing what I do.'
Depending on the severity of his punishment from the NFL, Rice could be waiting a while longer to return to the field with his teammates.
In a statement released by his attorney, Royce West, Rice said: 'Last March, I was involved in a high-speed accident in Dallas.
'There have been a lot of sleepless nights thinking about the damages that my actions caused, and I will continue working within my means to make sure that everyone impacted will be made whole.
'I urge everyone to mind the speed limit, drive safe and drive smart. Last and certainly not least, I am profoundly sorry for the physical damages to person and property. I fully apologize for the harm I caused to innocent drivers and their families.'
Rice was renting the Lamborghini sport utility vehicle authorities said was one of two speeding sports cars that caused a chain-reaction crash on a Dallas highway in May of 2024.
The occupants of the Lamborghini and the other speeding vehicle — a Corvette — left without checking on the drivers and passengers in the other four cars involved in the collision.
A spokesman for the rental company, The Classic Lifestyle, said the Lamborghini rents for about $1,750 a day and is worth about $250,000.
Police said the Corvette and Lamborghini were speeding in the far-left lane of North Central Expressway when they lost control.
The Lamborghini went onto the shoulder and hit the center median wall, causing a chain-reaction collision. Four people in the other vehicles were treated for minor injuries.

After his client was seen fleeing the scene of the accident, West said at the time that Rice would 'take all necessary steps to address this situation responsibly.'
Rice, a member of the Super Bowl LVIII-winning Chiefs team, is from the Dallas area. He played for Southern Methodist University and grew up in the Fort Worth suburb of North Richland Hills.
The 25-year-old has $3.5 million in career earnings and is slated to make $1.3 million in 2025. However, that salary will likely suffer if he misses any games due to suspension.
The Chiefs had been thin at receiver and thus stood by Rice in 2024, after an injury to Marquise Brown during the first game of pre-season.

Ultimately Rice's season was ended in Week 4 when he tore his ACL by colliding with quarterback Patrick Mahomes. Rice is expected to be ready for training camp when it opens on July 21 at Missouri Western State University.
He has not addressed the ruling publicly, but did post a photo of himself on Instagram with the caption: 'Gods (sic) plan.'

August 5 - The Boston Red Sox will attempt to extend their winning streak to seven games when they face the visiting Kansas City Royals on Tuesday. City manager filmed trying to fire cop after being pulled over for speeding
An angry Oklahoma lawmaker was filmed trying to fire a police officer after being pulled over for speeding. Konawa City Manager Daniel Bruton launched into a tirade after he was stopped by a local police officer on July 14 for racing his truck down the road. The bodycam footage showed the officer, only identified as Johnathan, pulling up behind Bruton's car as he stood on the road and screamed: 'I'm trying to get the water back on.' SCROLL DOWN FOR VIDEO Bruton, 52, later revealed he was on his way to a water emergency in the city, but the officer continued with the traffic stop. 'OK, but let's slow down. Let's do it safely,' the officer told Bruton. 'This is my job, this is what I was hired to do.' 'Well, this is my job and I'm your boss! And I'm in a hurry,' Bruton replied. 'It doesn't matter, you have to obey the law like everybody else,' the officer said as Bruton went threatened him: 'You're about to not have a job.' He then got back in his truck and continued to scream at the officer. 'Now, go get your a** back in the truck and go back to town,' he said, still pointing his finger at the officer. 'I'm trying to be respectful here,' the cop said as Bruton cut him off and shouted: 'I'm not being respectful!' After his outburst, the officer let Bruton leave - but that was not the last he saw of the city manager. Bruton found the officer back at the station, where he continued to tell the cop off. Further body cam footage showed Bruton in the doorway of the police station continuing to complain and threaten the officer. 'So, when these firemen and police officers are in a hurry to get somewhere - they're speeding. I was in a hurry to get somewhere,' Bruton said, adding: 'So, let me tell you something. When I got out of the truck and told you there was a water emergency, that's when you should've ended it.' The officer responded: 'OK, not gonna end it right there. Listen to me, just because you're city manager...' Bruton responded: 'I'm not saying that. I had a water emergency, OK? I promise you. me driving 35mph up a 25mph road is not that big a deal to me when the people in Konawa don't have no water. 'I'll explain this to you and I'll explain this to Bryan. If you have a problem with that, then you might as well pack your s*** and head out the door right now.' 'Listen to me,' the officer said before Bruton shouted: 'I'm not gonna listen to you! The city manager then called someone to inform him he was going to fire the cop 'right now', adding that the officer 'still continued to run his mouth with me'. The video ended with Bruton storming off after the officer said 'we're done'. Bruton later told News4 he was 'ashamed' and 'embarrassed' of his actions that day. He told the outlet: 'He just caught the brunt of that from a situation that day. I didn't mean anything towards him. He does a good job and I apologized to him, and I'm making a public apology to him now. 'I'm embarrassed by it, I'm ashamed of it. My family, I put them in this and I'm ashamed that the city had to even endure it. So I'm hoping that we can get past it and I can grow from it as well.' Despite his apology, locals are livid with the way Bruton acted that day, with some calling for his resignation. 'He was only embarrassed and ashamed when it was made public we still need a new city manager,' one wrote on Facebook. Another commented: 'It's funny how he's embarrassed now that the whole world can see what an absolute jerk he is. What a pathetic excuse for a human!'

Eddie Hearn reveals odds of Anthony Joshua vs Jake Paul happening after ‘hour meeting'
Anthony Joshua 's promoter Eddie Hearn has insisted a fight between the former heavyweight champion and YouTuber Jake Paul is a 'very real' possibility, putting the odds at '50/50'. Joshua, who is eyeing his next fight after undergoing elbow surgery in spring, has been linked to Paul in recent weeks, as the latter eyes another huge crossover bout. In November, the 28-year-old American beat heavyweight legend Mike Tyson, 58, on points, while most recently he outpointed ex-world champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr in June. Meanwhile, Joshua's last fight was a knockout defeat by fellow Briton Daniel Dubois in September, as 'AJ' failed to regain heavyweight gold. 'This is very real,' Hearn told The Ring on Monday (4 August), referencing a potential Joshua vs Paul fight. 'I had a good chat for about an hour with Nakisa [Bidarian, Paul's adviser] on [30 July], and now I believe they want the fight. I really do. Nakisa was very honest, and he's concerned about the fight, but Jake truly believes he can win the fight or at least be competitive in it. 'And now because of the size of the fight, it leads me to believe there's a very good chance it could happen. If I had to rate that chance, I would say it's 50/50. It was a very positive conversation, and we expect that conversation to extend over the coming weeks. If they really want it, it will happen. 'There wouldn't be such a huge difference [in size]. Jake would be a heavyweight on the night. But look, I can't even necessarily justify it to you. It's a mismatch in my opinion, it's dangerous in my opinion, but this is a guy... a cruiserweight who will be a heavyweight.
