Chet Hanks Recreates Tom Cruise's Viral Couch Jump Moment Nearly 20 Years Later: 'Something That I've Always Wanted to Do'

Chet Hanks made his first-ever talk show appearance a memorable one.
The actor, who stars as bad boy basketball player Travis Bugg in Running Point, stopped by The Drew Barrymore Show on Tuesday, March 18 and made a hilarious move in ode to Tom Cruise.
"This is my first time on a talk show ever," he told a shocked Drew Barrymore before unveiling that there was "something that I've always wanted to do" and asking if he could do it.
"It's only gonna work if you guys cheer really loud. You gotta scream, you gotta lose your minds or else I'm gonna look stupid," he told the audience, who he said he would "need" to make his plan work.

After counting down from three, Chet, 34, jumped up on the couch with his hands in the air, making Barrymore laugh as he reenacted Cruise's infamous 2005 moment on Oprah, when he jumped on the couch with his hands in the air in excitement over how in love with Katie Holmes he was.
When Chet — who is the oldest son of Tom Hanks and wife Rita Wilson — jumped down from the couch, he also got on one knee and shook his arm in celebration, just like Cruise did in the viral clip.
"Okay, that was good," he said as he sat back down next to an excited Barrymore, before asking the audience, "Do you guys get the reference?"
"Oh my God, Tom Cruise? Yes, of course!" she said. "Oh, I love it!"

Hanks' reenactment comes just shy of the 20th anniversary of Cruise's infamous moment, where he brought out his then-girlfriend Holmes from backstage after gushing about her to host Oprah Winfrey.
"I'm in love. And it's one of these things, you wanna be cool. That's not me. I admired her and I thought I wanted to meet her. And I called her," he said during the May 23, 2005 interview, calling Holmes, who he'd later marry within the year, "an extraordinary woman.'
After making a splash with his entrance on the show, Chet and Barrymore bonded about their shared experiences getting sober amid addiction issues, with the host celebrating five years sober while he shared that he's three-and-a-half years sober.
"I just really am so grateful for where I'm at, where we're all at, the things I've got going in my life, all the beautiful people in my life, my relationships, my loved ones. I've gotten the point where I fully understand that those are the most important things, by far, and everything else is like a bonus."
He also said that his parents have "always been super supportive" which has meant a lot.
"I don't take it for granted. I'm really, really grateful for both my parents and I just.. I'm at the age where I'm just like, I'm really grateful for them, I really cherish the time that I spend with them. They've stuck with me through thick and thin," he said.

Prince Harry Called Oprah in a Panic to Handle Delicate 'Problem' at Home

Prince Harry Called Oprah in a Panic to Handle Delicate 'Problem' at Home originally appeared on Parade. When makes an urgent call to on a holiday weekend, one might assume it's for another bombshell interview. But a recent 'crisis' at the Duke of Sussex's Montecito estate required a different kind of intervention from the media mogul, sparking a frantic chase across her property. Since their alliance was solidified in their explosive 2021 television special, Harry and Oprah have become more than just interviewer and subject; they are neighbors in the ultra-exclusive Southern California enclave they both call home. It was this neighborly bond that prompted Harry to send an S.O.S. to Winfrey over Easter. During a recent appearance on 's podcast, Let's Talk Off Camera, Oprah revealed the hilarious story behind the prince's panicked plea. "I get a call from Harry, Prince Harry, on Easter Saturday, and he says, 'Sorry to bother you, O, but we have a duck problem here,'" Winfrey recounted, adopting a cheeky British accent to impersonate the royal. The high-stakes issue wasn't a security breach or another royal family spat. It was, quite literally, a flock of wayward waterfowl. "A duck had come into their yard and laid their eggs and had these chicks," Oprah continued in her best Harry voice. "And he said, 'Our pond is a stream, we don't have a pond, so can we bring the ducks over to your pond?'" Winfrey, whose BFF 's grandchildren were set to visit, happily agreed to welcome the new feathered residents to her estate. But the transfer didn't go as smoothly as planned. Despite Oprah's request to wait for the kids, Harry was insistent. "He goes, 'No, we're coming right away, we're coming over!'" she said. What followed was a scene of pure, unadulterated chaos. "As he opens the door, the mama duck flies out. And he's got all the baby ducks in a box," Winfrey described. The escape set off a mad dash. "We're chasing the mama duck who is in the front yard and has flown to the other side. We've got her ducks. Harry's running after, Meghan gets out, she's running after, chasing the mom and trying to get her to come back to her ducks." The spectacle of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex chasing a frantic bird left Oprah in stitches. "And for like half an hour, we're running around with the ducks in a box. We have video. It's the funniest thing I've ever seen," she concluded with a laugh. Host Kelly Ripa summed up the situation perfectly. "The ducks also hit the jackpot," Ripa joked. "They're like, 'Wait a minute, we show up at Prince Harry's house and now we're at Oprah's!' Excuse me. That duck knew what it was doing when it laid its eggs." Meghan later shared a clip of the ducks on her Instagram, giving the public a small peek into the great Easter duck chase. Oprah Winfrey accused of closing her private Hawaii road during Tsunami evacuation

Oprah Winfrey's rep is shutting down rumors. A spokesperson for the philanthropist, 71, denied accusations that she kept the private road that runs through her estate in Maui closed as locals tried to escape following a Hawaii tsunami warning. 'As soon as we heard the tsunami warnings, we contacted local law enforcement and FEMA to ensure the road was opened,' Winfrey's spokesperson told People on Wednesday. 'A tsunami is not just one wave,' he said, per the Associated Press. 'It's a series of powerful waves over a long period of time.' 9 Oprah and The Rock donate to Maui after the wildfires. Instagram/Oprah 'Tsunamis cross the ocean at hundreds of miles an hour — as fast as a jet airplane — in deep water. But when they get close to the shore, they slow down and start to pile up. Snider added, 'In this case, because of the Earth basically sending out these huge ripples of water across the ocean, they're going to be moving back and forth for quite a while.'
