Bursa Malaysia appoints Bank Islam's Azizan Abd Aziz as new CFO

KUALA LUMPUR: Bursa Malaysia Bhd has appointed Azizan Abd Aziz as its new Chief Financial Officer (CFO), effective Aug 1, 2025, following the resignation of Rosidah Baharom last month.
Azizan joins the exchange from Bank Islam Malaysia Bhd, where he has served as CFO since May 2019 and was later promoted to Group CFO following the Islamic bank's listing in October 2021.
In a filing to Bursa Malaysia today, Bank Islam confirmed that Azizan has stepped down to pursue other career opportunities, with his last working day set for July 31.
Bursa Malaysia announced Azizan's appointment in a separate filing, highlighting his more than 20 years of experience in accounting, finance and advisory, including previous roles at Deloitte Malaysia and KPMG United Kingdom.
"Azizan's extensive expertise in both conventional and Islamic finance makes him well-suited to steer Bursa Malaysia's financial strategy and governance," the exchange said.
Azizan's entry into Bursa Malaysia follows the departure of Rosidah, who officially stepped down on May 17 to pursue personal interests, prompting a search for her replacement.
During the interim, group finance and corporate services executive vice president Rasmona Abdul Rahman was appointed acting CFO to ensure continuity.
Azizan is a fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants, a member of the Malaysian Institute of Accountants and holds a chartered professional qualification in Islamic Finance.
He earned his degree in accounting and finance from the University of Plymouth in the UK.

MARKET PULSE PM AUG 5, 2025 [WATCH]

KUALA LUMPUR: News on stock, crypto and ringgit moves. Bursa Malaysia closed higher today, in line with the strong performance of key regional indices, following a positive cue from Wall Street overnight on expectations of a Federal Reserve rate cut. Selective buying was seen in the utilities, banking, telecommunications, and technology sectors, while healthcare stocks edged lower. The FBM KLCI is expected to trend within the range of 1,530 to 1,545 this week. Meanwhile, the ringgit strengthened against the greenback to 4.2260. In the crypto market, Bitcoin fell to RM483,907 amid weak liquidity and fading institutional demand. Ethereum declined to RM15,399, while Solana fell to RM708. That wraps up today's Market Pulse.

Lotte Chemical Titan trims 2Q net loss to RM173.09mil

KUALA LUMPUR: Lotte Chemical Titan Holding Bhd (LCT) has narrowed its net loss to RM173.09 million in the second quarter of its financial year ending Dec 31, 2025 (2Q FY2025) from a net loss of RM248.88 million in the same period in FY2024. In a filing with Bursa Malaysia today, revenue declined by 19 per cent to RM1.43 billion from RM1.78 billion in 2Q FY2024, mainly due to weaker average selling prices and the US dollar against the ringgit. In 2Q FY2025, the average plant utilisation was 46 per cent, slightly lower than the 47 per cent in 2Q FY2024. "Despite lower revenue, the group's loss before tax was reduced by 42 per cent to RM191 million in 2Q 2025, primarily attributed to margin improvement. "The reduction was further contributed by the lower distribution and administrative expenses, along with a one-off insurance claim in respect of a business interruption that happened in 2022," it said. For the first six months ended June 30, 2025, LCT recorded a net loss of RM298.76 million compared with a net loss of RM426.91 million previously. Revenue fell to RM2.93 billion from RM3.69 billion in the same period last year. Moving forward, LCT president and chief executive officer Jang Seon Pyo said the company expects global business environment to remain volatile in the near future. He said ongoing geopolitical tensions, such as the Russia-Ukraine war and unrest in the Middle East, would continue to pose risks. Besides, the United States (US) reciprocal tariff is emerging as a factor that is reshaping global trade dynamics. In parallel, a persistent oversupply of petrochemical products continues to affect the supply and demand dynamics, both regionally and globally. "Despite these challenges, we remain committed to maintaining our position in key regional markets, especially in Malaysia, Indonesia, and across Southeast Asia. "With measured outlooks on regional gross domestic product growth and cautious operating rate projections, we will continue to navigate the current cycle with prudence," he said. Meanwhile, Jang also said that the Lotte Chemical Indonesia New Ethylene (LINE) Project in Merak, Indonesia is set to commence commercial operations in the second half of 2025. The management will continue to closely monitor market dynamics and provide updates on the project's progress accordingly, he added. LCT is the subsidiary of Lotte Chemical Corporation under the Lotte Group.

Bargain hunting lifts Bursa Malaysia to end at intraday high

KUALA LUMPUR: Bursa Malaysia ended at its intra-day high on Tuesday as bargain hunting in selected heavyweights pushes the market up amid the stronger regional market performance. At 5pm, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) rose 11.66 points or 0.76 per cent to close at 1,538.64 from Monday's close of 1,526.98. The benchmark index, which had opened at its lowest level of 1,528.63 and hit its highest level of 1,538.64 for the trading day. However, the broader market was negative, with decliners outpacing gainers 533 to 479, while 505 counters were unchanged, 973 untraded and seven suspended. Turnover rose to 2.87 billion units worth RM2.75 billion from 2.63 billion units worth RM1.94 billion on Monday. UOB Kay Hian Wealth Advisors Sdn Bhd's head of investment research Mohd Sedek Jantan said the local market appears to be stabilising, providing near-term support for equity valuations and risk appetite, with global monetary policy turning incrementally dovish and geopolitical tensions easing. "The rising expectations of United States (US) Federal Reserve rate cuts reinforced a pro-risk environment, particularly benefitting sectors with inverse sensitivity to interest rate volatility. "Additionally, regional equity markets closed mostly higher, buoyed by improved geopolitical sentiment and policy signals from China," he told Bernama. Among the heavyweights, Maybank and Tenaga Nasional rose 12 sen each to RM9.66 and RM13.28, IHH Healthcare gained 15 sen to RM6.85, while Public Bank and CIMB were flat at RM4.24 and RM6.75 respectively. Of the most active counters, TWL remained unchanged at 2.5 sen, Pharmaniaga advanced half-a-sen to 18.5 sen, while Top Glove lost two sen to 63.5 sen, Tanco and Sinaran Advance Group both inched down half-a-sen to 81.5 sen and 1.5 sen
