Steelers EDGE T.J. Watt down 1 point on his Madden 26 player rating

USA Today4 days ago
When EA Sports put out the 99 Club for Madden 26, we were hopeful that Pittsburgh Steelers edge defender T.J. Watt might be part of the group. Unfortunately, only seven players made the cut and the only defensive player on the list was Cleveland Browns edge defender Myles Garrett. So where did Watt end up?
The official Madden 26 X account put out the top 10 at every position group on Thursday, and they have Watt with a 96 player rating and tied with Maxx Crosby as the third-highest rated. This is behind the Garrett, as mentioned earlier, and Dallas Cowboys edge rusher Micah Parsons.
Watt's 96 rating is actually one point lower than his rating from the previous incarnation of the game.
Watt finished last season with 11.5 sacks. This is his worst output since his rookie season in a year where he didn't miss significant time due to injury. Watt had 5.5 sacks in 2022 when he only appeared in 10 games and was injured in two of those.

Steelers kicker Chris Boswell gets snubbed in Madden 26 player ratings

When you think about the elite players on the Pittsburgh Steelers, names like defensive tackle Cameron Heyward and edge defender T.J. Watt always come to mind. But we'd argue neither stands out at their position the way kicker Chris Boswell does. Boswell has become the standard for an NFL kicker and is still the most consistent scoring threat on the Steelers roster. EA Sports disagrees. They put out the kicker player ratings for Madden 26 and had Boswell listed as the No. 2 kicker behind Dallas Cowboys kicker Brandon Aubrey. Aubredy checked in with an 87 while Boswell scored an 85. The numbers tell us Boswell is the better kicker. Boswell made 41 field goals in 2024 compared to Aubrey's 40. Boswell hit his field goals with 93.2 percent accuracy compared to Aubrey's 85.1 percent. Both guys hit all of their extra points with Boswell going 35-for-35 and Aubrey going 30-for-30. The only stat where Aubrey has an edge is the longest field goal. Aubrey hit his best last season from 65 yards and Boswell's best was from 57 yards. However, Boswell went 13-of-15 from 50 yards or more and Aubrey went 14-of-17. Madden 26 is set for a full release on August 14, with those who pre-order getting early access for seven days starting on August 7. Cowboys' Micah Parsons requests trade, did Steelers' T.J. Watt play a role?

One of the NFL's best edge rushers has officially requested a trade, as Micah Parsons took to social media to declare his desire to leave the Cowboys amid ongoing contract talks — but one can't help but wonder if Steelers star T.J. Watt inadvertently played a major role in the decision. After months of failed negotiations with Dallas — and continuous shots from Cowboys owner Jerry Jones — Parsons made the trade request official with a social media post captioned, "Thank you Dallas!" Here is a short excerpt from his message: "Up to today the team has not had a single conversation with my agent about a contract," Parsons wrote on X. "Not one demand has been made by my agent about money, years, or anything else. Still, I stayed quiet, but again, after repeated shots at myself and all the narratives, I have made a tough decision. I no longer want to play for the Dallas Cowboys. My trade request has been submitted to Stephen Jones personally." While Parsons alluded to other factors in play — like refusing to partake in negotiations without his agent present — the Cowboys star defender hinted at Watt's record-breaking deal and other edge rushers' contracts during training camp. 'When you go around the league, you see these other teams taking care of their best guys," Parsons said a few weeks ago. "I see T.J. got taken care of. Maxx [Crosby] got taken care of. Myles [Garrett] got taken care of, and he's got two years left on his deal. You see a lot of people in our league getting taken care of, and you wish you had that same type of energy." Despite claims that the trade request didn't stem from financial demands, his camp mentality tells a different story — and the Pittsburgh Steelers deserve more credit for getting Watt extended long-term, even if it meant making him the highest-paid non-QB in the NFL.
