Cultural activities in Palestinian camps in Lebanon emphasize right of return

Saba Yemen24-05-2025
South Lebanon - Saba:
The Palestinian Nakba remains alive in the memory of refugees every year—not merely as a remembrance but as an ongoing reality of displacement, uprooting, and deprivation.
As the 77th anniversary approaches of the forced expulsion of over 750,000 Palestinians from their villages and cities in 1948, youth and cultural initiatives emerge as tools of intellectual resistance, striving to preserve collective memory and reinforce concepts of identity and belonging.
According to Quds Press, Palestinian camps in Lebanon hold a unique symbolic and political significance as living witnesses to the ongoing Nakba and as spaces of cultural , social resistance against resettlement and oblivion schemes.
In Ain al-Hilweh camp in Sidon, southern Lebanon, the Palestinian Democratic Youth Union (PDYU) organized an educational cultural activity titled "Palestinian Villages and Cities Displaced in 1948," targeting youth. The event saw participation from Palestinian students and featured interactive presentations and illustrative maps detailing the history, traditions, landmarks of the displaced villages and cities.
Organizers emphasized that the activity aimed to "strengthen awareness of Palestinian national identity and connect new generations to their roots and land, countering displacement and erasure efforts," as part of the union's broader cultural program.
Similarly, the Youth and Students Sector of the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine (DFLP) held a Palestinian heritage day in the Al-Burj Al-Shamali camp in southern Lebanon. The event was attended by representatives of student and youth groups, national and Islamic factions, popular committees, and local residents.

Palestinian Mujahideen Movement: Starvation of Children, Sick People in Gaza Disgrace to Humanity

Gaza - Saba: The Palestinian Mujahideen Movement considered the famine experienced by the Palestinian people in Gaza and the starvation of children and sick people a disgrace to humanity and the silent international community. In a statement received by the Yemeni News Agency (Saba), the movement strongly condemned "the international silence regarding the Zionist enemy's continued policy of killing through brutal bombing, starvation, and a stifling siege against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip, where famine has reached dangerous levels threatening the lives of two million Palestinians in Gaza." The movement emphasized that "the inhumane US aid distribution mechanism is one of the tools used to tighten the siege, starvation, and abuse against the Palestinian people, in addition to being a death trap for the starving." The movement stated that "the use of starvation policies for the purpose of cheap political blackmail and breaking the will of the Palestinian people, along with the brutal crime of genocide, is a manifestation of the ugliest forms of brutality against humanity in Palestine." The movement held the US administration and the silent international institutions fully responsible for the war crimes committed by the Zionist enemy against the Palestinian people through its policy of starvation, brutal siege, and continued genocidal massacres. It called on "Arab and Islamic countries to break the unjust siege on the Gaza Strip, whose people are subjected to the most heinous policies of starvation and genocide," calling for the urgent opening of the Rafah crossing and the entry of withheld aid. It also called on "the peoples of our nation to fulfill their role and exert all possible pressure in support of the oppressed Palestinian people, who are paying the price for their resistance to the Zionist project that threatens the entire nation."

DFLP: More than 130 martyrs... and hunger is sweeping across children, women, elderly

Gaza - Saba: The Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine (DFLP) confirmed that the death toll in the Gaza Strip has exceeded 130, including approximately 80 victims of "death traps" where the American company distributes food supplies. Eighteen children have also died from starvation and lack of milk and medicine. The DFLP said in a statement on Monday, carried by the Yemeni News Agency (Saba): "What is happening in the Gaza Strip has gone beyond the bounds of massacre and has turned into a daily killing spree, during which the enemy army and its fascist leadership boast about flexing their muscles, disregarding the international community, its laws, and its conventions. They are condescending to the calls of international institutions, including the United Nations, and defying the will of humanity calling for an end to the flow of Palestinian blood at the hands of settlers wearing combat fatigues, sheltering in their war machines, protected by US aircraft and its shameful stance in the Security Council." The Democratic Front added: "The humanitarian tragedy taking place in the Gaza Strip is beyond description, and the human suffering is heartbreaking, especially the crying of children searching through the garbage, in full view and hearing of the world, for something to eat, after food has become a precious commodity and impossible to obtain." The Democratic Front called for "a humanitarian revolution, with our people in the West Bank, the 1948 territories, and those in exile and the diaspora, alongside our Arab peoples, at its forefront. The free people of the world should respond to this revolution, launching a cry that awakens the conscience of governments, parliaments, and decision-makers to halt the horrific tragedy in the Gaza Strip." The Democratic Front also called on all those who stand in solidarity with the Gaza Strip—Palestinians, Arabs, and foreigners—to declare a hunger strike in solidarity with the children, women, and hungry people of Gaza until the walls of the blockade are broken and unconditional humanitarian aid is allowed into the Gaza Strip and distributed to the population in all areas of their presence, free from the interference of the enemy army and the American company of death. The Democratic Front concluded: Appeals are no longer a sufficient weapon, and it is time for us to demonstrate our new weapons: will and action on the ground, so that the enemy will submit and stop the war of killing and starvation in the Gaza Strip. Israeli Defense Minister Warns Houthis of Harsh Retaliation Following Missile Attacks

Aden – Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant has issued a stern warning to Yemen's Houthi movement, declaring that the group will face 'severe consequences' for its continued missile and drone attacks targeting Israeli territory and maritime interests. Speaking after Israeli airstrikes reportedly hit Houthi military infrastructure in Yemen's Hodeidah port, Gallant stated, 'The fate of Yemen will mirror that of Tehran. We will act forcefully, anywhere and anytime, to protect Israel.' He emphasized that the Israeli Air Force had bombed facilities used to rebuild Houthi capabilities, including fuel tanks, engineering equipment, and vessels suspected of military use. The strikes come in response to recent Houthi claims of launching ballistic missiles and drones toward Israeli cities, including Tel Aviv and Eilat. The Israeli military confirmed intercepting several projectiles and accused the Houthis of escalating regional tensions under Iranian influence. Israel has reportedly urged the United States to resume joint military operations against the Houthis, citing the group's growing threat to Red Sea navigation and international shipping lanes. The Houthis, who control large parts of northern Yemen, have framed their attacks as acts of solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza. However, Israeli officials view the group's actions as part of a broader Iranian-backed axis seeking to destabilize the region.
