Andhra Pradesh CM Chandrababu Naidu stresses AI's role in preventing crimes
VIJAYAWADA: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu underscored the vital role of technology in ensuring law and order, stating that peace and security are essential for investment and development. Speaking after inaugurating the 'AI 4 Andhra Police Hackathon' in Guntur on Friday, he urged the police to fully adopt Artificial Intelligence (AI) and advanced tools for crime prevention and investigation.
'A State can prosper only when law and order are firmly under control. Technology must become a driving force in policing, making Andhra Pradesh a model for crime-free governance,' Naidu affirmed.
The AI hackathon, jointly organised by the State police and four US-based AI firms, saw participation from over 160 teams focusing on AI solutions for policing.
On the occasion, Naidu interacted with participants and stressed the need for technology-driven, data-backed policing, moving beyond traditional methods. 'We have introduced WhatsApp Governance for citizen services and are expanding CCTV and drone surveillance across the State,' he said, adding, 'The days of relying solely on traditional policing methods are over. It is encouraging to see AP Police recognising the importance of technology and organising this innovative event.'
Pointing to the former minister YS Vivekananda Reddy murder case, Naidu said, 'There were many baseless allegations against me in connection with the case. I was targeted with defamatory slogans like 'blood history'. However, the truth came out through scientific investigation and digital tools like Google Takeout, used effectively by the CBI.' Issuing a warning to criminal elements, Naidu stated, 'Those involved in rowdyism, ganja trade, and crimes against women can expect the hammer to come down hard, with technology providing irrefutable evidence.' He further stated that his government will always encourage young people to join the technological revolution.
'Earlier, we promoted IT in Andhra Pradesh. Now, we are preparing to showcase Telugu talent globally through the upcoming Quantum Valley project. Just like the United States has Silicon Valley, Andhra Pradesh will soon be home to Quantum Valley. The world today demands: work locally, think globally, act globally. This is the direction we are moving towards,' Naidu stated.
Union Minister of State for Rural Development and Communication Dr Pemmasani Chandrasekhar, Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha, and Director General of Police (DGP) Harish Kumar Gupta were also present at the event.

The Union government has reiterated its commitment to strengthen the system of cooperatives, which have their roots in India's past. Jammu and Kashmir was amongst the first states and Union Territories to implement the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, but had been immune from the furore against the policy's three-language formula and the suspicion that it signified an 'imposition of Hindi'. But it couldn't stave off a political standoff over language for long—a recruitment notification for 75 Naib-Tehsildar posts on June 9, requiring a mandatory 50-mark Urdu test has spawned a controversy. A knowledge of Urdu is deemed essential for J&K revenue department jobs—it had been the only official language of Kashmir, and the region's centuries-old revenue, land and administrative records are in Urdu. However, the change in J&K's status from state to Union territory in 2019 also brought key changes to its domicile and land laws—in 2020, the official language list was expanded to five, with Kashmiri, Hindi, Dogri and English becoming part of it. This is the basis on which the opposition BJP is pillorying the Omar Abdullah government over the mandatory Urdu exam. Predictably, it has likened it to the sidelining of Jammu, where a majority speak Dogri, Pahari and Hindi. 'We have five languages; this looks like the prioritisation of one region over the other,' says Sat Sharma, president of the J&K BJP.

In mid-March, the TTP announced a 'spring campaign" against security forces, threatening 'ambushes, targeted attacks, suicide attacks and strikes". The TTP has since claimed responsibility for around 100 attacks in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Around 290 people, mostly security officials, have been killed in attacks since the start of the year by armed groups fighting the government in both Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, according to an AFP tally. Attacks have increased in Pakistan in particular since the Taliban returned to power in Afghanistan in August 2021. Islamabad accuses the Taliban government in Kabul of failing to eliminate militants who take refuge on Afghan soil to prepare attacks against Pakistan. The Taliban government denies these accusations and in return accuses Pakistan of harbouring 'terrorist" cells on its soil, pointing the finger in particular at the regional branch of the Islamic State group IS-K. Last year was the deadliest year in almost a decade in Pakistan, with more than 1,600 people killed in attacks — nearly half of them security forces personnel — according to the Islamabad-based Center for Research and Security Studies.
