Make AP ‘zero crime rate' state with AI, CM tells cops

Guntur: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Friday urged the police department to transform Andhra Pradesh into a crime-free state using technology. Speaking at the 'AI for AP Police - Hackathon 2025' event, the Chief Minister cited the Viveka murder case as an example of how technology can be effectively used in investigations. The hackathon, organised by the AP police department and four US-based AI companies, focused on leveraging technology for crime control and accelerated investigations. Over 160 teams participated, with CM Naidu engaging them in discussions on how technology can enhance police services and improve performance. Addressing the conference, Chandrababu Naidu stated, 'Development will only happen if law and order are under control. That's why, even when I was the Chief Minister of the united state, I gave high priority to law and order.' Referring to the Viveka murder case, he said, 'Allegations were made against me, and I was criticised with phrases like 'Naraasura Rakta Charitra'. However, the CBI, by using technological methods like Google Takeout in its investigation, brought the facts to light.' 'We managed to control crime even without AI. Now, technology is available, and evidence is easily accessible. If mistakes are made, the government will take necessary action. Youth should also benefit from technology. In the past, we promoted IT. Now, through Quantum Valley, we are going to showcase Telugu prowess. Silicon Valley in America, and Quantum Valley here,' he said. Earlier, welcoming the guests to the Hackathon, DGP Harish Kumar Gupta highlighted AP's legacy as a technology pioneer, noting how its eCOPS platform became the national CCTNS standard. He stated that the hackathon, conceived just three months ago with knowledge partner 4SightAI, focuses on eight high-impact, real-world use cases across productivity, intelligence, investigation, and cybersecurity, designed for direct deployment and potential scaling to other government departments. The DGP noted that the IndiaAI Division from MeitY is supporting the initiative, envisioning it as a model for AI-First Governance nationwide. Global AI communities are closely watching, as AP's use cases mirror unresolved challenges in public safety worldwide. DGP Gupta emphasised this is 'just the beginning,' promising a long-term roadmap to establish Andhra Pradesh as a global leader in AI for law enforcement, with plans to showcase work at international platforms. The DGP thanked partners 4SightAI and RVR & JC College of Engineering, and the CM and Home Minister for their visionary leadership. Union minister P Chandrasekhar and home minister V Anitha also participated in the event.

Andhra Pradesh CM Chandrababu Naidu stresses AI's role in preventing crimes

VIJAYAWADA: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu underscored the vital role of technology in ensuring law and order, stating that peace and security are essential for investment and development. Speaking after inaugurating the 'AI 4 Andhra Police Hackathon' in Guntur on Friday, he urged the police to fully adopt Artificial Intelligence (AI) and advanced tools for crime prevention and investigation. 'A State can prosper only when law and order are firmly under control. Technology must become a driving force in policing, making Andhra Pradesh a model for crime-free governance,' Naidu affirmed. The AI hackathon, jointly organised by the State police and four US-based AI firms, saw participation from over 160 teams focusing on AI solutions for policing. On the occasion, Naidu interacted with participants and stressed the need for technology-driven, data-backed policing, moving beyond traditional methods. 'We have introduced WhatsApp Governance for citizen services and are expanding CCTV and drone surveillance across the State,' he said, adding, 'The days of relying solely on traditional policing methods are over. It is encouraging to see AP Police recognising the importance of technology and organising this innovative event.' Pointing to the former minister YS Vivekananda Reddy murder case, Naidu said, 'There were many baseless allegations against me in connection with the case. I was targeted with defamatory slogans like 'blood history'. However, the truth came out through scientific investigation and digital tools like Google Takeout, used effectively by the CBI.' Issuing a warning to criminal elements, Naidu stated, 'Those involved in rowdyism, ganja trade, and crimes against women can expect the hammer to come down hard, with technology providing irrefutable evidence.' He further stated that his government will always encourage young people to join the technological revolution. 'Earlier, we promoted IT in Andhra Pradesh. Now, we are preparing to showcase Telugu talent globally through the upcoming Quantum Valley project. Just like the United States has Silicon Valley, Andhra Pradesh will soon be home to Quantum Valley. The world today demands: work locally, think globally, act globally. This is the direction we are moving towards,' Naidu stated. Union Minister of State for Rural Development and Communication Dr Pemmasani Chandrasekhar, Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha, and Director General of Police (DGP) Harish Kumar Gupta were also present at the event.

Andhra Pradesh chief minister Chandrababu Naidu vows smart governance, zero tolerance for criminal elements

Guntur: Emphasizing that robust law and order is essential for attracting investments, chief minister Chandrababu Naidu said his govt is committed to smart governance to deliver better public services. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Declaring zero tolerance for criminal elements, he affirmed that as long as he is at the helm, there is no place for such forces in Andhra Pradesh. The CM made these remarks while inaugurating the AI-Police Hackathon organised by the state police department at a private engineering college on Friday. Interacting with IT experts, Naidu recalled that Hyderabad became one of the most livable cities due to his efforts to curb communal violence during his previous tenure as chief minister of undivided Andhra Pradesh. "Hyderabad's transformation into an IT powerhouse with the highest per capita income in the country was made possible due to sustained investments in the sector, fostered by a peaceful environment. Andhra Pradesh will soon become an even bigger magnet for IT investments," Naidu stated. He said that they have set their focus on elimination of criminal forces along with technology. "Technology helped catch the culprits in former MP Vivekananda Reddy murder case. CBI's google-take out brought them to light. Our police too become smart to nail the real culprits of the crime. We can achieve zero crime rate with the help of AI in future," said chief minister. He said that it was unfortunate that the former chief minister was backing the rowdy-sheeters and criminal elements. "We're committed to using both strict policing and advanced technology to root out criminal networks," he said, citing AI tools and CBI breakthroughs such as Google Takeout in cracking complex cases like the Vivekananda Reddy murder. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Naidu urged young engineers to embrace emerging technologies, particularly artificial intelligence (AI), and assured them that AI cannot replace human intelligence. "We should stay ahead of AI and use it to our advantage. Smart work will now be redefined by technological adoption," he said. iPhone users on Google Fi will now get all their voicemails in the Phone app

Google is making a big change to how Fi users on iPhone access their voicemails: instead of getting voicemails from a dedicated tab in the Fi app, iPhone users will be able to get them right from the native iOS Phone app instead. The change started rolling out on Tuesday and will be fully rolled out by July 2nd, the Fi team says in a support forum post. In August, Google plans to phase out voicemail in the iOS Google Fi app. 'If you have voicemails you want to keep, you must download them using Google Takeout before August 13th,' the team says in its post. 'After this date, they will no longer be available in the Google Fi app.' If you use Google Fi and have an iPhone, you may have seen some voicemails show up in the iOS Phone app before this announcement. But that has only happened under a specific set of circumstances. If a user had iOS's Live Voicemail feature turned on, your phone was turned on, and you were within Google Fi's service area when getting a voicemail, that voicemail would be delivered to the iPhone's Phone app, Google's Patrick Seybold tells The Verge. After this update has rolled out to you, all voicemails will show up in the iPhone's Phone app. Google teased in April that this change was in the works. At that time, Google also announced a more affordable Google Fi Unlimited Essentials plan that costs $35 per month.
