David Corenswet never wanted to be Superman: ‘I thought they were calling me for Top Gun 3, agent told me not f*** it up'
While talking to GQ, the Twisters actor shared his utter shock when he landed an audition to play the Kryptonian superhero. He said, 'I never wanted to play Superman because I didn't think it was an achievable goal. One day I was in my home, fixing a light bulb when I got the call from my agent who said, 'Well David, I'm sure you know what this call is about,' and I had no idea and told him, 'What am I supposed to be waiting for, Top Gun 3? Just talk fast because I am on a ladder.' Suddenly he told me that I have an audition for Superman and that I am not special, and will have to send my tape in like everyone else and told me to n0t f*** it up.'

David Corenswet shared that the iconic interview scene with Lois Lane was the scene they had to put on tape for the audition and also the scene they performed during his screen test. He also revealed that he saw several of the past Superman films in order to get an idea of what all already exists and what he can draw from the previous actors. The actor said, 'We saw the first Christopher Reeve's Superman, then Superman Returns and Man of Steel. My screen test was actually in the Henry Cavill suit, which is just a beautifully made piece of costume, and I put on his suit in the same way Henry put on the Reeves suit for his screen test, and that's the moment when you are stepping into something iconic.'
He added, 'When I finally got the role, Gunn called me from an unknown number, and I told him to prove to me that he was in fact James Gunn. He told me I got the role, and the next thing he told me was to get a trainer and work on my shoulders and vulnerability, which I thought was really funny.'
David Corenswet and James Gunn's Superman will hit screens worldwide on July 11.

New Delhi: James Gunn's new Superman movie, the first film in the DC Universe and a second reboot in the Superman film series, will hit the screens this weekend. However, the film, led by David Corenswet as Superman, was not received with warmth when it was screened for a select group of journalists in the West. Despite the reviews being on embargo, a publication named Daily Beast slammed the film as they released their review. They called it 'the final nail in the superhero coffin'. Snippets From The Viral Review The review was put up on Monday but taken down by Tuesday. The damage was done by then, as internet users took screenshots and shared them on social media. Commenting on the CGI treatment in the James Gunn film and questioning David Corenswet's performance, a part of the review read, " Superman doesn't skimp on the high-flying action, to a fault; the film is so awash in over-the-top CGI insanity that its slam-bang mayhem loses its punch. Not helping matters, the charming Corenswet looks the part but, in the shadow of Christopher Reeve (whose son Will cameos) and Henry Cavill, he comes across as relatively slight-a situation exacerbated by the all-over-the-place nature of his saga." Literally every shot I've seen in the trailer has phenomenal visuals, apart from the one shot that Gunn removed. The Kaiju scene in particular was improved; that sequence looks gorgeous."
