Punjab moving towards becoming a plastic-free province: CM Maryam
The usage of eco-friendly cloth and paper bags is being promoted instead of plastic bags in the province, the Chief Minister said, in her message on International Plastic Bag Free Day. She said, 'Plastic bags give a little convenience to the people in their daily lives, but they cause colossal destruction by remaining in the environment for centuries.'
She highlighted, 'Humans are damaging their land, rivers, air, crops and health with plastic pollution. Plastic bags can cause loss of soil fertility, clog drainage systems and exterminate aquatic life. The usage of plastic can cause cancer and other fatal diseases as well.'
The CM outlined, 'A culture of implementing environmental laws is being strictly enforced in the markets and factories to eliminate the trend of usage of plastic bags across Punjab. An awareness campaign regarding making Punjab Plastic Free is underway in schools, colleges and communities. Recycling-friendly alternatives are being introduced in Punjab.'

Evening OPDs open at social security hospitals
In a move aimed at improving access to healthcare for workers, the Punjab Employees Social Security Hospitals — including the facility in Islamabad — will begin offering evening Outpatient Department (OPD) services starting July 1. The announcement was made by Social Security Hospital Islamabad Medical Superintendent Dr Tabinda Zaman during a press conference following the inauguration of the evening OPD service. She stated that the decision aligns with the vision of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif and is being implemented under directives from Provincial Labour Minister Malik Faisal Ayub Khokhar and Chairman Punjab Employees Social Security Muhammad Ali. Dr Zaman noted that the evening OPD will allow labourers and their dependents to receive quality medical care outside their regular working hours. "This will make it easier for workers to access healthcare without disrupting their jobs," she said. She added that under the leadership of Labour Minister Khokhar, hospitals managed by the Labour Department are striving to provide top-tier medical facilities to the working class and their families.

CM vows to continue efforts for a drug-free Punjab
LAHORE: Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif said that for the better and bright future of the youth, we reiterate our commitment to a drug-free Punjab. The Punjab government is committed to carry out coordinated efforts to eradicate the menace of drugs across Punjab, she said, in her message on the 'International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.' The CM said, 'The purpose of celebrating the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking is to provide awareness and consciousness about drug abuse and its eradication from the society.' She highlighted, 'We must pledge to create a safe environment for children free from the detrimental effects of drugs.' She expressed her best wishes to all organizations and well aware citizens who are playing their due positive role in preventing drug abuse from the entire society. She emphasised that the drugs addicts are a great cause of concern for the entire society. She revealed that Anti-Narcotics Force is being reactivated and streamlined in Punjab so as to stamp out drug trafficking in the province. She vowed, 'Our firm resolve and determination to halt drug trafficking is unwavering at all costs.' She urged the parents to fully support the efforts of the government and other relevant organizations for the prevention and eradication of drugs from the society. She exhorted the parents to keep a vigilant eye on the movements and habits of their children.
