Bihar sachiv fails to recognise RJD vidhayak. Then came a Panchayat-style threat

India Today7 days ago
In a scene straight out of the Panchayat web series, a Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) MLA appeared to be locked in a spat with a local panchayat secretary — not on screen, but in real life.A purported audio clip, featuring Bhai Virendra, an RJD legislator from Maner, has gone viral on social media. In the recording, the MLA can be heard berating a government official over the phone for not recognising him and then threatening to hit him with shoes.advertisementAccording to the viral clip, Bhai Virendra had called a local panchayat secretary in his constituency to enquire about the status of a death certificate for one Rinki Devi. However, when the secretary failed to recognise him, the MLA erupted. "You don't know Bhai Virendra? You want me to introduce myself? The whole country knows me," the voice, purportedly of Bhai Virendra, can be heard saying.
The secretary, unfazed, responds, "If you speak respectfully, I will do the same. If you talk crooked, I will talk crooked. I am not scared of you".The MLA hits back, "Joote se maarunga (I will hit you with a shoe) and you can file a case if you want. You don't follow protocol. You dare to say who is Bhai Virendra?"The official, maintaining his composure, insisted that he wasn't aware of the MLA's identity and asked for a straight conversation. "Please talk about the work. Your request is already in process," he says, urging the MLA to refrain from issuing threats. However, the verbal volley continued, with the MLA saying, "You have no right to this job if you don't know your local MLA. Transfer? This won't stop at transfer. Where are you even from?"LISTEN TO THE AUDIO HERE The exchange bears an uncanny resemblance to the tension between MLA Chandrakishore Singh and Secretary Abhishek Tripathi in the Amazon Prime show Panchayat, where ego, power, and protocol routinely collide in the dusty lanes of rural administration.India Today could not independently verify the authenticity of the viral clip, although the voice resembled that of Bhai Virendra. The RJD MLA has not publicly responded to the viral clip yet.- EndsMust Watch

Ashok Ram joins JD(U), calls Cong ‘B-team' of RJD

1 2 Patna: Former Bihar Congress president Ashok Ram on Sunday joined the JD(U) on Sunday, declaring CM Nitish Kumar a "necessity" for the state and branding the Congress as the "B-team" of the RJD. Ram, a six-time MLA and member of the Congress Working Committee, formally joined the JD(U) along with his son Atirek Kumar and supporters. JD(U) national working president and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Kumar Jha and state president Umesh Singh Kushwaha welcomed them into the party. Ram's move, just days before Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's proposed "padyatra" in 18 districts from Aug 9 or 10, triggered speculation. Observers cited his alleged differences with senior Congress leaders and his demand for a ticket for his son from Samastipur as possible reasons for the defection. Speaking to the reporters before his induction, Ram said, "The Congress has no base in the state. The party has lost its identity because its decisions are taken either by the RJD or its national president, Lalu Prasad." Backing Nitish's leadership, Ram added, "The state needs the leadership of Nitish today more than ever, due to his vision, policies and welfare schemes for Dalit and Mahadalit communities. He is the NDA's leader and will remain so." Ram's entry was marked by a show of strength at JD(U)'s state headquarters, attended by ministers Vijay Kumar Choudhary and Shrawan Kumar and senior party leaders. "His grassroots connect will strengthen the JD(U)," said Jha. Kushwaha called him a "seasoned, experienced, and grassroots leader" while Choudhary praised his wide acceptance across communities. NDA seeks FIR against Tejashwi over dual EPIC row

1 2 Patna: National Democratic Alliance (NDA) functionaries on Sunday demanded legal action against Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Prasad Yadav for allegedly possessing two voter ID cards, which they claimed was a violation of electoral law. JD(U) national executive president Sanjay Kumar Jha alleged that Tejashwi holds two voter ID cards, which constitutes a criminal offence. "The way Tejashwi accused the Election Commission (EC) despite his name being in the voter list is sad. He is just doing politics on this matter," said Jha. Addressing a joint press conference in Patna alongside spokespersons of NDA allies JD(U), LJP (Ram Vilas), HAM(S) and RLM, BJP's Ajay Alok said it was unlawful for one person to hold multiple EPICs. "Tejashwi agreed to it himself. EC should now take action against him," he said. Tejashwi had on Saturday alleged that neither his name nor that of his wife appeared in the draft voter list for Bihar, fuelling controversy. BJP spokesperson Ajay Alok further attacked the RJD leader and the Congress. "Rahul Gandhi at the national level and Tejashwi at the state level have both been proven to be zero. Tejashwi tried to create sensation. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like She Was Everyone's Dream Girl In 90's, This Is Her Now The Latest Article Undo But the EC clarified that his name is present in the list. Tejashwi deliberately showed two EPIC numbers, which is a crime by law. Strict action should be taken on this. We appeal to the EC to register an FIR against Tejashwi," he said. The Election Commission has already served a notice to the former deputy chief minister, seeking clarification over the EPIC number he referred to during Saturday's press conference. JD(U) state chief spokesperson Neeraj Kumar also criticised Tejashwi, questioning his credibility. "How will a person who does not trust his identity lead the state? Tejashwi has two EPIC numbers and both are registered at different addresses, which is a serious crime," Kumar said. Spokespersons from LJP (Ram Vilas), HAM (S), and RLM – namely Rajesh Bhatt, Shyam Sundar and Nitin Bharti, respectively – also demanded that the Election Commission take strict action. All said the fairness of the electoral system had been hurt. Reacting to the EC notice, RJD spokesperson Chittaranjan Gagan dismissed the allegations, accusing the poll panel of acting under political pressure. "The EC, at the behest of the BJP, wants to divert attention from the questions asked to it by the leaders of the INDIA bloc and demands for clarification on several points," Gagan said. EC to Tejashwi: Hand over suspicious EPIC for probe

Patna: The on Sunday asked leader to "hand over for investigation" a voter ID card bearing EPIC number RAB2916120, which he claimed to possess but which, according to the poll body, has "not been issued officially". Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The controversy erupted after Tejashwi alleged at a press conference on Saturday that his name was missing from the draft electoral rolls, warning that he might be unable to contest the upcoming assembly elections later this year. In a letter addressed to Tejashwi, sub-divisional magistrate of Patna Sadar, who also serves as the electoral registration officer (ERO) for the Digha assembly constituency, said, "Upon verification, it was found that his name figures at serial number 416 of polling station number 204, located in the library building of Bihar Veterinary College and his EPIC number is RAB0456228." The letter further noted that the EPIC number cited by Tejashwi – RAB2916120 – did not appear to have been officially issued. "So, you are requested to hand over the details of your EPIC card with the original copy of the card that you cited at the press conference to the undersigned for a thorough investigation into the matter," the notice said. However, no specific deadline was mentioned for compliance. The development came amid intense political sparring between the Election Commission and opposition parties, particularly since the launch of the special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar in late June. The opposition has accused the EC of attempting to disenfranchise marginalised voters and acting under political pressure. RJD spokesperson Chitranjan Gagan termed the EC notice a "diversionary tactic". "The draft roll by the EC has large-scale irregularities. On the page where Tejashwi's name is listed, numerous irregularities have been identified. We raised the issue of many voters' names missing from the draft rolls, but the EC is now issuing a notice to our leader," he alleged. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Former Bihar Congress president Akhilesh Prasad Singh accused the EC of abandoning its neutrality. "How can people expect free and fair polling in Bihar if the EC behaves like this?" he asked. On the other hand, BJP IT cell head Amit Malviya launched a blistering attack on the RJD leader. "I still can't believe Tejashwi once compared himself to Steve Jobs, only to now be exposed holding multiple EPICs! From fake comparisons to fake voter IDs, the hypocrisy is staggering," he posted on X. Malviya added that a former deputy CM holding two EPICs constitutes a "criminal offence" and demanded immediate filing of an FIR. The confrontation between the INDIA bloc and the Election Commission has intensified since the SIR process began with the opposition staging marches to the EC office in Patna and disrupting the recently concluded session of the Bihar legislature. The Parliament session too remains turbulent over the issue.
