As the value of new vehicles increasingly depends on their digital capabilities, companies are integrating digital platforms and data-driven services to satisfy consumer preferences. The market is embracing personalized, flexible mobility solutions such as car-sharing, subscription services and ride-hailing. Strategies to provide these solutions target new revenue streams in urban areas where traditional ownership is impractical and environmental concerns are heightened.
European automakers continue efforts to reduce emissions as the EU introduces stricter standards, such as the FitFor55 program, which pushes manufacturers to produce more low- and zero-emission vehicles, the report says. In addition, national environmental initiatives such as France's Crit'Air program encourage consumers and fleet operators to acquire lower-emission vehicles, subsequently driving manufacturers to prioritize cleaner vehicles.
Companies in the region are also exploring new approaches to minimize the long-term environmental impact of EVs. They are adopting strategies such as battery recycling and second-life applications to address resource scarcity and waste management concerns, ensuring sustainable practices that align with efficient resource utilization.
'The European automotive and mobility sector is embracing lifecycle sustainability practices in product design,' said Harish B, manager and principal analyst, ISG Provider Lens, and lead author of the report. 'This approach mitigates environmental impact and addresses resource challenges.'
The report also explores other European automotive and mobility trends, including growing investments in skills development and a surge in data connectivity transforming vehicles into digital platforms.

Murata Launches World's First High-Frequency Filter Using XBAR Technology for 5G, Wi-Fi 7, and Future 6G Networks
KYOTO, Japan--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Murata Manufacturing Co., Ltd. (TOKYO: 6981) (ISIN: JP3914400001) has announced the mass production and commercial shipment of the world's first *1 high-frequency filter using XBAR technology *2. Developed by combining Murata's proprietary Surface Acoustic Wave (SAW) filter expertise with XBAR technology from Murata's subsidiary Resonant Inc., it enables the extraction of desired signals while achieving both low insertion loss and high attenuation. These features are critical for the latest wireless technologies, including 5G, Wi-Fi 6E, Wi-Fi 7, and emerging 6G technologies. The demand for reliable high-frequency communications continues to grow in response to the widespread deployment of 5G and the future development of 6G. Simultaneously, wireless local-area network (WLAN) standards such as Wi-Fi 6E and Wi-Fi 7 are expanding into higher frequency domains to accommodate ultra-fast data rates. Filters used in these applications must address key challenges, such as preventing out-of-band interference, maximizing system battery performance, and meeting strict space limitations. Traditional approaches using Low Temperature Co-Fired Ceramic (LTCC) or conventional Bulk Acoustic Wave (BAW) filters often fall short in these performance areas. Murata's new XBAR-based filter addresses these limitations by achieving high attenuation performance while maintaining a wide bandwidth and low signal loss. The XBAR structure itself excites bulk acoustic waves using comb-shaped electrodes and a piezoelectric single-crystal thin film, enabling performance beyond the reach of conventional filter structures. It effectively removes high-frequency interference, even in bands above 3 GHz, allowing for clearer signal detection and better performance, contributing to high-speed, high-capacity, and high-quality wireless communication. Key performance parameters include a passband of 5150–7125 MHz, a typical insertion loss of 2.2 dB, and a typical return loss of 17 dB. Typical attenuation figures are 11 dB at 4800–5000 MHz, 28 dB at 3300–4800 MHz, 27 dB at 7737–8237 MHz, and 26 dB at 10300–14250 MHz. The new filter is targeted at devices with embedded wireless functionality, including smartphones, wearables, notebook PCs, and communication gateways, offering an optimal balance of performance and cost efficiency. Murata will continue to drive innovation in filter technologies to support the evolution of wireless communications, and expects this architecture to scale further, with future product generations capable of operating effectively in ultra-high frequency bands above 10GHz. Notes: *1 According to Murata research as of July 7, 2025. *2 XBAR technology: Murata's proprietary filter structure that excites bulk acoustic waves using comb-shaped electrodes and piezoelectric single-crystal thin films. Another luxury car maker is taken down by US tariffs
Car buyers have benefited from car manufacturers relying on incentives to get customers through the door. Consumer sentiment has fallen, but a sale is a sale, and people are taking advantage. "People are buying cars because they think tariffs are coming," one Mazda dealer said. Related: Investment bank says tariffs are devastating these businesses U.S. companies like Ford are in an especially advantageous position because they (usually) import fewer vehicles than their foreign competitors. Nearly half of American drivers cite car expenses as the reason they can't save any money, and the average American spends about 20% of their monthly income on auto loans, fuel, insurance, and maintenance. Most financial experts cap the monthly income you should spend on a vehicle at 15%. But according to a MarketWatch Guides survey, about 10% of drivers say they spend 30% of their monthly income on driving, while another 12% said they "found themselves living paycheck to paycheck due to the financial strain of their cars." Image source:On Monday, Mercedes-Benz said that in the second quarter, unit sales of cars and vans fell 9%, primarily due to tariffs. The luxury German brand delivered 547,100 cars and fans between April and June. Mercedes' Cars unit reported a 9% decline to 453,700 vehicles sold as support in the U.S and China both dried up. North America deliveries fell 14%, while China deliveries declined 19%. "Deliveries to dealerships were carefully calibrated to navigate new global tariff policies, impacting sales of Mercedes-Benz Cars in the U.S. and China in particular," Mercedes said. Related: Toyota makes a tariff move customers are going to hate European sales were up 1%, while sales in Germany rose 7%. Perhaps most concerning was the 18% drop in battery electric sales to 41,900 vehicles. According to a Bernstein note last week viewed by Reuters, Mercedes expects tariffs to play a big part in its performance this quarter. The company seemed relieved about a number that would have been worse without "some de-escalation of tensions between the U.S. and China, some tariff offsets, and timing because tariffs were only ramping up in April." U.S. tariffs forced Mercedes-Benz, and many other automakers both foreign and domestic, to pull their guidance for the year due to lack of visibility. This is a smart move, given President Trump's mercurial decision-making on tariffs. The current pause on non-automotive tariffs is set to end on Wednesday, July 9, but the 25% auto tariffs that have been in place since March never went away. Mercedes operates two manufacturing plants in the U.S., one in Tuscaloosa and the other in Vance, Alabama. The plants produce four of its most popular models, the GLS and GLE SUVs, the GLE Coupe, and the new C-Class. The Tuscaloosa plant was Mercedes' first plant outside of Germany when it was completed in 1995. Today, the 1,000-acre site has over 5 million square feet of manufacturing space, and its facilities employ more than 11,000 Alabamians. Mercedes sold 324,500 passenger cars and 49,600 vans in the U.S. last year, representing 16.4% and 12.2% of sales, respectively.
