Rajasthan eyes ₹1,500 crore investment in aviation; cuts fuel VAT to 1%, ET Infra

Rajasthan's Minister of State for Civil Aviation (Independent Charge) Gautam Kumar Dak said the state government has taken several steps to develop civil aviation infrastructure and services.He stated that the value added tax (VAT) on aviation turbine fuel for Regional Connectivity Scheme (RCS) flights has been reduced from 26 per cent to 1 per cent. The state has provided free and encumbrance-free land to the Airports Authority of India for the construction of a greenfield airport in Kota and for the development and expansion of Kishangarh Airport. Land allocation is also in progress for the expansion of Udaipur Airport and for the construction of a civil enclave in Uttarlai, Barmer.At the Northern Region Civil Aviation Ministers' Conference in Dehradun, Dak said that Rajasthan has several tourist, religious, industrial, and educational sites, making regional air connectivity important. Currently, RCS flights operate from three airports in the state. The government has proposed to the Centre that Mount Abu, Sikar, Sawai Madhopur, Bhilwara, and Sri Ganganagar be included in the RCS network. It has also requested regular flights from Bikaner, Jodhpur, and Kishangarh to Mumbai, Kolkata, Surat, and Bengaluru.The state has 19 airstrips ranging from 3,300 feet to 9,800 feet. These are being offered for use in flying training, air sports, and maintenance activities. An FTO is operational in Kishangarh, and another is scheduled to begin in Bhilwara in August 2025. Over 10 Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) have been signed with private investors, indicating a potential investment of ₹1,500 crore. Aviation investment promotion provisions are included in the Rajasthan Investment Promotion Scheme (RIPS).Dak said there are about 118 helipads in the state. Additional helipads are under construction in districts, tourist areas, and for use in medical and emergency services. Plans have been proposed for helicopter tourism, religious travel, and short-distance rides. The government is also working on establishing helicopter-based emergency medical services and is seeking central support for operational models and standard procedures.He further stated that districts such as Udaipur, Kota (Chambal), Banswara, and Tonk (Bisalpur) may be suitable for seaplane services. A request has been made to the Centre to study feasibility and consider inclusion under the RCS scheme. Rajasthan introduced its Civil Aviation Policy in 2024 and has sought financial, technical, and policy support from the central government.

"In addition to that, the plan is to connect the Modi Mill flyover with the Kalkaji flyover by removing a red light intersection near Okhla Mandi. Currently, Nehru Place and traffic towards Nehru Place are getting mixed with local traffic near Savitri Cinema. "Nehru Place-bound traffic immediately after landing from the Chirag Delhi flyover is split into three parts -- towards Nehru Place, U-turn, and right turn. This causes a slowdown," an official said. The existing Savitri Cinema flyover was constructed in 2001 with only a single carriageway providing a route from Nehru Place towards IIT Delhi. The PWD also constructed a flyover in a similar manner near Sarai Kale Khan ISBT to decongest traffic last year.

AP govt ties up with SYSTRA, TYPSA for metro phase-1 execution
Vijayawada: The Andhra Pradesh government signed Memorandums of Agreement (MoAs) with SYSTRA Consultancy and TYPSA Consultancy to serve as general consultants for the Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada metro rail projects, respectively. As general consultants, SYSTRA will assist APMRCL in planning, design, and construction supervision of the Visakhapatnam metro rail project, while TYPSA will oversee the Vijayawada metro project. The MoAs were exchanged in the presence of Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MAUD) minister P Narayana and representatives of SYSTRA and TYPSA at the APCRDA regional office in Vijayawada. Speaking on the occasion, Narayana said the state government has already issued a tender notification for Phase-1 of the Visakhapatnam metro project, and a separate tender notification for Phase-1 of the Vijayawada metro project will be issued within a week. He stated that the government is committed to completing Phase-1 of both metro projects—Visakhapatnam at a cost of Rs 11,498 crore and Vijayawada at Rs 10,118 crore—within the next three years, with support from the Centre. Narayana noted that the metro projects were included in the AP Reorganisation Act, 2014, and would be developed as joint venture (JV) projects. PM Modi inaugurates projects worth ₹4,900 crore in Tamil Nadu
Along with the new terminal of Thoothukudi airport and the extended runway, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday (July 26, 2025) launched a few more completed projects on an outlay of ₹4,900 crore in various parts of Tamil Nadu. Since the Airports Authority of India wants to increase the number of passengers using Thoothukudi Airport to 20 lakh per annum in the next five to ten years and to increase Thoothukudi's air connectivity manifold by introducing flights to various parts of the country and abroad, the 17,340 square meter new terminal in Chettinad- style architecture has been created. The 1,350-meter-long runway has been extended to 3,115 meters with a night landing facility for handling wide-bodied aircraft, like A320s and A321s. Moreover, to ensure the hassle-free handling of the passengers, 21 check-in counters, 7 baggage scanners, 3 aerobridges, 644 seats, a feeding room for mothers, isolation areas, 5 aircraft parking bays, fully equipped fire station have been completed. After the expansion, the Thoothukudi airport can handle up to 1,400 passengers per hour, which stood at just 156 earlier, officials said. Another important project inaugurated by Mr. Modi on Saturday (July 26, 2025) was the 306-meter-long north cargo berthing facility with 14.20 metre draft at the cost of ₹285 crores at the VOC Port, Thoothukudi, which can handle larger vessels carrying coal, copper concentrate, limestone, gypsum and rock phosphate. This new berth is likely to create 300 direct employment and 500 indirect jobs. As of now, the all-weather VOC Port handles containers, coal, limestone, windmill turbine blades, fertilizer, edible oil, construction materials, timber, machinery, etc. The 4-lane Sethiyathoppu – Chozhapuram 50 km stretch has been completed at the cost of ₹2,357 crore, and the 4-lane road connecting the VOC Port, Thoothukudi, has been upgraded into a 6-lane at the cost of ₹200 crores to ensure the hassle-free movement of heavy trucks carrying containers, logs and bulk cargo like coal and fertilizers. The double railway track in Nagercoil Town – Nagercoil Junction – Kanniyakumari, Aralvaimozhi – Nagercoil Junction and Tirunelveli – Melapalayam sections were also dedicated to the nation on the occasion. The much-awaited Madurai – Bodi railway track electrification, which was taken up after this section was converted into broad gauge after decades of waiting, was also dedicated to the nation. All these rail projects have been completed on an outlay of ₹1,032 crores. The Prime Minister also laid the foundation stone for the ₹548 crore interstate transmission system to evacuate the 2,000 MW power to be generated by VVER reactors 3 and 4 of the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project, being built with Russian assistance.
