PM Modi on Monday expressed solidarity with Bangladesh after a tragic air crash in Dhaka claimed at least one life and injured over 100 people, many of them young students. The impact of the crash triggered a massive fire and sent thick plumes of black smoke into the air, as seen in television footage from the scene. Rescue teams rushed in to control the blaze and evacuate the injured to nearby hospitals.
The incident occurred while classes were underway at the school, intensifying the scale of injuries and disruption. Authorities have not yet confirmed the total number of students affected, but the initial toll includes at least one fatality and over a hundred injuries.Bangladesh chief adviser Muhammad Yunus said the government would investigate the cause of the accident and ensure all forms of assistance."The loss suffered by the Air Force, students, parents, teachers, and staff of Milestone School and College, as well as others, in this accident is irreparable. On Sunday, marking the 375th consecutive week of the campaign, around 5 quintals of waste were removed from the riverbed at Jhulelal Ghat. Wishing CRPF personnel on the force's 87th Raising Day, Prime Minister Modi on X said, "CRPF personnel have made a mark for their duty, courage and steadfast commitment in the most testing of situations." Home minister Amit Shah, in a message to CRPF on X, said, "Your selfless sacrifice has been the backbone of our nation's security and your unwavering courage to end Naxalism is truly commendable". Home secretary Govind Mohan, while addressing CRPF Raising Day celebrations here, assured the force of the ministry of home affairs' commitment to arming it with modern weapons and latest technology to meet the increasing security challenges India faces. The secretary emphasised that the MHA would deploy technology to minimise the risk of injury in risky operations. "In the coming days, we will have drones that can see through thick foliage in the mountains etc, weapons that can be fired from a safe range and technology to remotely detect and defuse IEDs," he said. Varanasi: Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will reach Varanasi on Monday afternoon to review preparations for the proposed visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to his parliamentary constituency on Aug 2. The PM will address a public meeting at Kalikadham in Sevapuri assembly constituency, where he will launch 54 projects worth Rs 2,200 crore. Busy finalising preparations for CM's visit on Monday, divisional commissioner S Rajalingam said the CM would take stock of the public meeting venue being prepared in the Kalikadham area of Sevapuri before reviewing list of projects to be inaugurated by the PM. There are 16 projects worth over Rs 600 crore, while 38 new projects to be launched by the PM by laying their foundation will cost Rs 1,650 crore. This list will be finalised after the CM's review meeting. The list of ready projects for inauguration include Sowa Rigpa Medical College on Central Institute of Higher Tibetan Studies campus in Sarnath and Varanasi-Bhadohi 4-lane road. All arrangements at the public meeting venue are being made with weather conditions in mind.
