'Devastated' Ariana Grande announces the death of beloved family member
On Tuesday, the 31-year-old pop star reshared a statement originally posted by her mother, Joan Grande, confirming the loss.
'We are devastated to share that the beloved matriarch of our family has passed away,' read the note, signed by Ariana and her family.
'Marjorie (Nonna) Grande passed away peacefully in her home and was surrounded by family and loved ones for every moment of her last few weeks.'
The family added, 'We thank you for your love, support, and for respecting our privacy as we grieve and celebrate her beautiful, extraordinary life.'
Ariana shared a particularly close bond with her grandmother, who she referred to affectionately as 'Nonna.'
Over the years, Marjorie was a regular presence in the singer's life and was often seen with her superstar granddaughter.
From appearing alongside Ariana at major events like the 2014 MTV VMAs, where they wore coordinating outfits, to joining her at the American Music Awards and the Time 100 Gala, Nonna became an unofficial part of the Grande fan family.
In November 2023, Ariana flew to Florida to watch Wicked with her grandmother at a local movie theater they had visited often during Ariana's childhood.
'Flew to Boca for a day to watch with Nonna at the movie theater I grew up going to every weekend,' Ariana shared on Instagram Stories at the time.
During the screening, she proudly recalled her grandmother's enthusiastic reaction to a moment in the film: 'Thrilled to report that when the sugar glider had her drum solo Nonna exclaimed loudly, 'Oh I LOVE that.''
Ariana's brother, Frankie Grande, also paid an emotional tribute on Instagram, sharing a series of photos and reflecting on the profound influence Marjorie had on his life. More Trending
'You taught me how to love without conditions… how to stand in my truth unapologetically… how to show up for family in a way so deep, so unwavering,' he wrote. 'You always called me the apple of your eye, Nonna, and you have always been mine.'
In March 2024, Marjorie made history when she appeared on Ariana's track ordinary things from her Eternal Sunshine album.
Her spoken-word message about love and commitment ('Never go to bed without kissing goodnight… and if you don't feel comfortable doing it, you're in the wrong place') made her the oldest artist ever to appear on the Billboard Hot 100.
Ariana proudly celebrated the milestone, writing, 'Celebrating the one and only, most beautiful Nonna who has now made history.'

Man wrongly accused of felling Sycamore Gap tree 'wears Rod Stewart wig' to hide
A man who was arrested over the felling of the iconic Sycamore Gap tree says he's taken unusual measures to avoid public abuse. Walter Renwick, a lumberjack, was arrested the day after the popular tree was felled in September 2023. The 70ft tree – which featured in 1991 Kevin Costner movie Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves – sat in a gap in Hadrian's Wall and was one of the most beloved trees in the UK. But it was chopped down in the middle of the night. Two friends, called 'moronic' by a judge, have been found guilty of criminal damage over the felling. Mr Renwick, 69, was released without charge by December 2023. He spoke out at the time, saying he was not 'stupid' enough to cut down the tree – but it public outcry against the tree felling means Mr Renwick is still associated with the Sycamore Gap. Speaking to the BBC yesterday, he described his home in Northumberland being searched as 'heartbreaking' and said he would be pointed out in the street. Mr Renwick of the police searches: 'There were police everywhere, drones flying around the valley, divers in the lake, they were 100% certain I'd done it. 'Every time I went shopping in Haltwhistle or Hexham, people were nudging each other and saying 'that's him that cut the tree down', stuff like that. 'I know it was daft but I put a Rod Stewart wig on so people didn't spot me.' Months before the Sycamore Gap tree was felled, Mr Renwick had been evicted from Plankey Mill Farm near Bardon Mill, just a few miles from Hadrian's Wall. The tenancy held by his grandfather and father had not passed to him – and this led to online sleuths suggesting the eviction was his motivation for chopping down the tree. 'I'd just lost everything I had, my cows, my sheep, my parents' stuff. I'd lost my home and then this,' Mr Renwick said. Daniel Graham, 39, and Adam Carruthers, 32, both from Cumbria, were both found guilty by an unanimous jury of criminal damage at Newcastle crown court in May. More Trending Discussing the true culprits, Mr Renwick said: 'I just keep asking myself why they did it. 'Was it just attention seeking? I don't know what it was but, for me at least, it's over. 'Actually, you know, the tree, that was one thing. But losing my farm. That was the thing that hurt most of all.' Got a story? James Martin reveals extra precautions to protect himself after London attack
James Martin has revealed the extreme lengths he has taken to protect himself after thieves smashed up his car in broad daylight. The ITV chef recently declared that 'London is broken' after the windscreen of his car was smashed in. In a post on Instagram, the 52-year-old shared a photo of his car with the caption: 'So in a week two of my friends cars got stolen. 'One other mate got mugged and now I had this happen all in broad daylight all in central London. London is broken big time.' Now, however, Martin has taken a step further by sharing a picture of his dogs, a Belgian Malinois, in a 'working dog' harness. Alongside the image, he captioned the post by simply saying: 'London.' After sharing what had happened on his miserable morning, fans rallied round the star, sharing kind words on the post. Joanne Lokwiya wrote, 'So sorry this has happened to you. The whole of the UK is the same, the laws need to change and we need more police on the streets'. 'This is so sad, what once was an incredible capital city is now a centre for crime, ' added Sarah O'Sullivan. Catherine Evans, meanwhile, said, 'This is so sad, what once was an incredible capital city is now a centre for crime'. Appearing on Kaye Adams' BBC Radio Scotland show, he praised her work and said: 'I'm watching you do your thing while I'm listening to music play and you're like a conductor. More Trending 'I can't do what you do and I certainly can't when I've been on Loose Women with you as well.' He complimented: 'I certainly admire anyone who's able to do that.' Practical Magic star snubbed by bosses for 2026 sequel as her role is 'recast'
Evan Rachel Wood played Sandra Bullock's character's daughter in the 1998 romantic fantasy movie, but her offer to star in the upcoming sequel in any capacity was declined With Practical Magic confirmed for a sequel in 2026, both of its lead actresses, Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock will return as sisters Sally and Gillian Owens. But Evan Rachel Wood, who played Sally's daughter Kylie Owens in the 1998 movie, will not reprise her role, with the actress being spectacularly snubbed by producers. Despite her character still playing a part in the upcoming film, her role has been recast, according to the Westworld star, 37. The actress announced the news on Instagram Stories, typing out a post to explain her absence from the next instalment of the beloved story. The actress wrote: "I am getting asked about this a lot, so l'll just clear it up now; I was not asked to come back and be in the #PracticalMagic sequel. l offered my services, even if it was one scene or one line." She continued: "I was told they are re-casting. I am sorry to disappoint the fans. It was not in my control or my choice. I would have happily rejoined my sisters." In the movie, her character Kylie and her younger sister Antonia go to live with their aunts after their father dies. But it seems bosses have already picked out Wood's replacement. Deadline reports that 25-year-old American actress Joey King will take on the role of Kylie Owens. Joey, who portrayed Gypsy Rose Blanchard in Hulu's series The Act, is set to join Game of Thrones star Maisie Williams as part of the renewed cast. In February this year, Nicole, 58, remained tight-lipped about the progress of the new film, which is expected to drop in 2026. Chatting with Variety, she said it was "moving ahead rapidly." But when pressed for details about a script, she told the interviewer: "I'm not answering anymore, you can ask Sandy." Presumably referring to her co-star Sandra Bullock, she added: "I love Sandy!" When asked when she would start shooting, she again refused to answer. Nicole prompted the interviewer to 'ask Sandy, my beautiful Sandy.' When asked if she ever thought she would be doing a sequel to Practical Magic, she cryptically answered: "Well were not doing it yet," adding again it was "moving ahead rapidly, just needs a little magic." Nicole Kidman confirmed the news of the much-awaited sequel last year, revealing that she and co-star, and close friend, Sandra Bullock would be once again joining forces once again. In an interview with People magazine, Nicole dished: "Yes I will be in it. And Sandy will be in it. And that's that." She added: "There's a lot more to tell which is why we go, 'OK, this is kind of interesting now to be able to do this.'" Kidman also hinted at the creative process, saying, "(We) found a way in." The buzz around the sequel grew when Warner Bros. teased fans with a social media post after the film hit streaming services, referencing the iconic "midnight margaritas" scene. The filmmakers said in a statement: "Twenty-five years ago, Sally, Gillian, Aunt Jet and Aunt Franny flew off the pages of Alice Hoffman's beloved novel and into theaters around the world, and we are thrilled to bring the Owens family back to the big screen with Joey, Lee, Maisie, Solly and Xolo joining the next chapter in our story."
