In attack on AAP in Punjab, Anurag Thakur says land pooling scheme like Delhi liquor scam

Bathinda: BJP MP Anurag Thakur on Sunday likened AAP govt's land pooling scheme in Punjab to the 2022 liquor scam in Delhi, stating that the final destination for those behind it will be jail. Speaking to media here, Thakur said Delhi-based leaders of the Aam Aadmi Party, alarmed over facing jail terms in the liquor scam, were now making Punjab chief minister Bhagwant Mann implement the land pooling scheme. "After minting money, they will go away, and those who implement it will have to face the music," Thakur added. Thakur, who is a govt body member of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Bathinda, visited the health institute duiring the day. He said a 300-bedded facility would be added shortly. He said he came to know of some medicines not being available at Jan Aushadhi and Amrit Pharmacy in AIIMS, and he would take up the matter at appropriate forums. He also accused the state govt of charging the commercial rate for electricity from AIIMS and asked it to provide electricity at subsidised rates. Thakur also hit out at AAP over a growing perception that its Delhi-based leaders were now calling the shots in Punjan. "People in Punjab feel cheated after giving a thumping majority to AAP, as they chose Punjabis to lead them, but Delhi-based leaders took control and are governing Punjab by proxy," he said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like American Investor Warren Buffett Recommends: 5 Books For Turning Your Life Around Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo The former Union minister said the Delhi-based AAP leaders were taking decisions that were not in the interest of Punjab or Punjabis. He also raised the issue of AAP not meeting its promise of giving a Rs 1,000 per month cash incentive to women. The BJP MP from Himachal Pradesh's Hamirpur constituency also raised lack of jobs, rising drug menace, no MSP on crops other than wheat and paddy, and gangsters running syndicates from jails. He added that elected members of AAP would start leaving it in the next six months, as they knew it had lost people's confidence. "BJP is sure to form the next govt," said Anurag. He also took potshots at Samvidhan Bachao rallies of the Congress. He accused the Congress-led govt in Himachal Pradesh of not providing adequate assistance to people ravaged by excessive rain, while the central govt was providing assistance.

Delhi's water lifeline set for overhaul with new master plan

NEW DELHI: To modernise Delhi's ageing water supply system, the Delhi government has launched a new Water Master Plan, which includes replacing old water pipelines, Water Minister Parvesh Verma announced on Saturday. During a visit to his constituency, Verma highlighted that many existing pipelines—some 40 to 80 years old—are a major cause of water contamination and frequent supply disruptions. 'There are several areas in Delhi where people are receiving polluted water, and the primary reason is the decades-old pipelines,' he stated. Verma criticised the previous administration, alleging that it had failed to improve the city's water infrastructure. 'They did not lay even a single new pipeline,' he said. He assured residents that the current government has moved beyond announcements and begun visible work on the ground. 'The budget has been passed, tenders approved, and in some areas, work is already underway,' Verma said, pledging timely and transparent execution of all projects. 'This government is only five months old, but in one year, Delhi's face will change,' Verma added. As part of his outreach, he visited several locations, including D-Block Gole Market, Gurudwara Flats in Rakabganj, and Type-II Flats in Sarojini Nagar. Meanwhile, the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) recently launched a project to replace worn-out pipelines in East Delhi, shortly after the Delhi High Court criticised it for supplying 'sewage-mixed' water. The court's remarks came during a hearing on a public interest litigation filed by residents of Yojna Vihar, Anand Vihar, and Jagriti Enclave, who complained of contaminated water in their localities. The Delhi High Court had earlier expressed concern over the Delhi Jal Board's failure and asked how citizens could be expected to consume such unsafe water. It directed that all related work be completed by August, warning that any delay would be taken seriously. The pipeline upgrade initiative followed Chief Minister Rekha Gupta's directive in May, when she chaired a high-level Delhi Jal Board meeting. Gupta had called for urgent steps to overhaul Delhi's outdated water and sewer infrastructure, emphasising clean and safe drinking water as a basic right for all residents.

CM assures prompt action in Puri girl burning case

1 2 Bhubaneswar: CM Mohan Charan Majhi on Saturday asserted that prompt govt response would be taken after a 15-year-old girl was set ablaze by three miscreants in Puri, even as the incident sparked political outrage. Addressing a news conference, Majhi said the govt is in constant touch with the AIIMS authorities to ensure best care for the injured girl, while police have launched a manhunt to nab the accused. "If the situation warrants, she will be airlifted to AIIMS New Delhi. Her condition is stable, and she is speaking," the CM said. Majhi said the truth will come out and the inquiry will determine if there was any conspiracy. "Stringent action as per law will be taken against the culprits," he said. Earlier in the day, former CM Naveen Patnaik said criminals have become emboldened under the BJP govt. Pointing out that the Puri incident happened within a week of a young college girl setting herself ablaze in Balasore after she was allegedly denied justice, Naveen wrote on X, "These incidents occurring with shocking regularity point to a deep systemic failure of governance. It shows that criminals have become emboldened under the present govt and are not worried about being punished. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Libas Purple Days Sale Libas Undo " Naveen said Odisha is becoming highly unsafe for women due to alleged govt inaction and political patronage and urged the govt to take speedy action. Echoing similar sentiments, state Congress president Bhakta Charan Das said criminals are operating without fear of the govt, administration or police. "Even though such incidents keep happening repeatedly, the govt and administration have turned into mere spectators. Female students and women are unsafe in the state," he wrote. State BJP president Manmohan Samal said the state govt has taken the incident with utmost seriousness and would ensure strict action against the culprits. "Ensuring justice is our primary responsibility. We will strive to ensure that the perpetrators receive exemplary punishment," he said.
