With a New Pop Record—and New California Lifestyle—Indigo De Souza Finds Clarity

Vogue: Has writing always been a salve for you? Or can it be the opposite, where writing becomes difficult because it's how you process things, and…sometimes you don't want to process things.
Indigo De Souza: Oh, both, absolutely. Sometimes it feels really easy to process emotions through music, and it's flowing out of me. And then I can be quite stubborn about writing, because of how much it makes me face what I'm feeling. I don't really know how to write from anywhere that isn't a deeply emotional space. Sometimes I can feel hesitant to pick up the guitar. I force myself to do it. I'll be very, very emotional about something and I'll know that it would help to play guitar and write.
With what you've been through, I wonder how you relate to your previous body of work now?
All of my past albums are really special to me in different ways, and the music is very close to my heart. Every album that I make feels very different from the last one, and it feels like I'm always moving through different modalities of writing. So when I listen to past music, sometimes it's almost mystifying to me how it even happened. Sometimes I can't even remember writing a song, or how I was trying to present the emotions within that song. I was thinking about 'Always': It's so intense, and the way that we play it live is really specific—there's a lot of screaming. How I wrote it and what I wanted to do with it is a blur. I'm very present with the songs I'm making, but the ones I've made in the past are like ghosts.
'Not Afraid' was the first song that was written for Precipice. What were those emotions you were using?
Honestly, I was just trying to connect with Elliot and impress him. Within the first hour, I knew he was special. I liked his energy and way of working. I'd never done a blind session before, but we just clicked in every way. I wanted to put my best foot forward, with my boldest lyrics and way of being. He made me feel comfortable enough to do that too.

NYC Summer Streets 2025 runs the length of Manhattan today. See the list of closures.

New York City's Summer Streets program takes over Manhattan on Saturday. The NYC Department of Transportation says city residents can traverse the length of Manhattan, from the Brooklyn Bridge to Inwood, for the first time in the program's history. The Summer Streets program has been expanding since it started in 2008. The popular city initiative, with events in all five boroughs this year, shuts downs streets to vehicle traffic and opens them to pedestrians and bikers alike on select Saturdays during the season. "The usual traffic noise and honking horns will be replaced by open streets teeming with walkers, bikers, runners, and performers. Discover a wealth of free cultural programs, performances, fitness classes, interactive art, giveaways, and much more as you experience the city in a whole new way," the NYDOT website says. Summer Streets 2025 continues in Manhattan on August 9 and 16, followed by Brooklyn and the Bronx on August 23. It kicked off last weekend in Queens and Staten Island. Activities are planned from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Summer Streets program is in addition to the city's "Open Streets" throughout the year. NYC DOT says Park Avenue, north of 125 Street, and most adjacent avenues will remain open to motor vehicles during Summer Streets in Manhattan. The following streets are closed Saturday at the NYPD's discretion, according to NYC DOT. Route: Rest Stops: Miscellaneous: Additional Locations:

One of WWE's biggest wrestling events is airing this weekend. For the first time, WWE SummerSlam 2025 will air over two nights on Peacock and Netflix. Here's what time to tune in, how to watch in the U.S. and internationally, and a look at the match card for the two nights of wrestling. WWE SummerSlam 2025 officially kicks off on Saturday, August 1, at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, and continues with Night 2 on Sunday, August 3. The two-night format mirrors WrestleMania's format, allowing for a larger card and more matches to take place. The event will mark John Cena's final SummerSlam ahead of his upcoming retirement. The WWE legend is set to face Cody Rhodes in a WrestleMania rematch, this time in a Street Fight. Cena previously defeated Rhodes back in April, while Rhodes earned his way back to the title picture by defeating Randy Orton to win the 2025 King of the Ring Tournament at WWE Night of Champions. There will also be an epic showdown between World Heavyweight Champion Gunther and CM Punk. Gunther reclaimed the title from Jey Uso after losing it at WrestleMania in April. He'll now be challenged by CM Punk, who has yet to capture a world title since his 2023 WWE return. A WWE Women's Championship is also on the line this weekend, with Tiffany Stratton set to defend her title against Queen of the Ring winner Jade Cargill. Additionally, a Triple Threat match for the Women's World Championship will take place between Naomi, IYO SKY and Rhea Ripley. What Time Does WWE SummerSlam 2025 Start Tonight? TVLine's Performer of the Week: Jack Alcott

THE PERFORMER | Jack Alcott More from TVLine Dexter: Resurrection Recap: Dexter's Connection With Mia Takes a Shocking Turn The Librarians: Next Chapter Season 2: Lindy Booth to Reprise Cassandra - Dominic Monaghan, Jeremy Swift Also Among 15+ Guest Stars (Exclusive) The Gilded Age Renewed for Season 4 Ahead of Finale THE SHOW | Dexter: Resurrection THE EPISODE | 'Murder Horny' (Aug. 1, 2025) THE PERFORMANCE | In Friday's episode, Jack Alcott's Harrison Morgan came face to face with a serious truth: His supposedly deceased father — the one he thought he shot dead — was still very much alive. Dexter showed himself to his son just as Harrison was about to turn himself into the police for killing Ryan Foster. When Harrison turned around and saw his dad, the look on Alcott's mug expressed the kaleidoscope of feelings that were swirling around his brain: shock, hurt, sadness and some unwieldy (and very understandable!) confusion. Once the impact of the surprise wore off, the young man's feelings turned to sheer rage. (We'll let it slide that he couldn't remember Jason Voorhees' name. Just this once.) The actor's body language and delivery conveyed the tremendous amount of trauma he had suffered as a result of what happened in Iron Lake. As Dexter tried to relate to his son about the 'release' of murder, Alcott trembled as he spoke of the nightmares and guilt Harrison felt as a result of his experience, proving that maybe father and son aren't exactly alike after all. 'If you weren't you, I never would've killed Ryan!' he yelled at his dad. During one last tête-à-tête, Dexter finally told Harrison the truth about Rita, prompting Alcott to fight back tears and let his demeanor soften, as the two men admitted that their connection was all they had. Harrison may not be like his pops, but having such a solid young talent like Alcott on board, one who can hold his own alongside a powerhouse like Michael C. Hall, has made this Resurrection something to wake the dead for. Scroll down to see who got Honorable Mention shout-outs this week… HONORABLE MENTION: Callum McGowan To date, The Librarians: The Next Chapter's Callum McGowan has leaned into Vikram's more colorful qualities, including the swagger with which he will introduce himself as [hand flourish] 'The Librarian.' But in the TNT spinoff's 11th episode, Charlie (Jessica Green) accused Vikram of being 'motherly' as of late, and that set the stage for McGowan's most dialed-in, emotional work yet. Vikram explained to Charlie that upon first arriving in our here and now, he'd written off the situation as 'a temporary stop on the way back home to my own time,' and as such it 'never felt real to me at all.' But having now spent quality time with Charlie & Co., he feels a bond — and a need to keep everyone safe. McGowan lowered every one of Vik's walls, inviting Charlie and us in as he admitted, 'I've lost so much, and I cannot bear the thought of losing any one of you now.' — Matt Webb Mitovich HONORABLE MENTION: Cynthia Nixon Desperate to feel close to her late ex-husband, Ada began visiting a psychic medium this season, an arc that was mostly played for laughs. (And with Andrea Martin as said medium, how could it not be?) But something shifted this week when Ada discovered that her medium was a total fraud. Watching the joy slowly disappear from her face, giving way to the anger, heartbreak and sheer disbelief of the situation, was simply heartbreaking. Cynthia Nixon brought that same powerful energy into her next scene with sister Agnes, during which she released another devastating wave of emotions as she (almost deliriously) celebrated a newfound closeness she feels to Luke, despite her medium's duplicity. Ada may be ashamed of her 'sentimental folly,' but Nixon should be proud of the commanding performance she delivered this week. — Andy Swift Which performance(s) knocked your socks off this week?
