Man Utd target throws summer deal into jeopardy ahead of transfer clause deadline
Ruben Amorim is eager to further strengthen his struggling forward line after already bringing in Matheus Cunha from Wolves in a £62.5million deal.
He has been attempting to sign Brentford star Bryan Mbeumo, but United have had two bids rejected for the player already and have been unable to agree a fee with the Bees - who are said to be holding out for £70m.
Mbeumo himself is said to be frustrated with the slow pace of talks and lack of progress and United could have to switch their attentions to other targets in the mean time as they look to have a new attacking option in before the start of the season.
Kean - formerly of Everton - has emerged as a possible alternative after a prolific campaign with the Viola that saw him score 23 goals, with a host of European clubs now circling for him.
There was a window of opportunity for interested clubs to snap him up for a relative bargain of £44.5m this month thanks to a release clause in his contract - but that is only available between July 1 and July 15.
And on the final day of the clause being active, Kean has made it clear he is committed to Fiorentina despite the interest in his signature.
Speaking at the unveiling of returning boss Stefano Pioli, Kean said: "I'm very motivated to move forward. Fiorentina has given me so much and has always supported me."
He added: "Now it's important to return with renewed motivation and give my best for Fiorentina."
The last time the 25-year-old was in the Premier League, he scored just four goals from 39 appearances and was subsequently sold to Juventus in 2021.
Other forward targets United are reportedly considering are Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who is a free agent after leaving Everton, Chelsea duo Nicolas Jackson and Christopher Nkunku, while Juventus star Dusan Vlahovic has also been mentioned.
Amorim is also hoping to offload a number of his unwanted stars to bring in more funds for his top targets - with Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, Antony and Tyrell Malacia all told to find new clubs.

Hannah Hampton was England's hero in the Euro 2025 final saving two penalties in the shootout but she was told in her youth that she would be unable to pursue a career in football Hannah Hampton saved the day for England against Spain in the Euros final - and her journey to the top has been anything but straightforward. Hampton kept out two penalties as the Lionesses defended their European crown, having made big stops from Esther Gonzalez and Claudia Pina in regular time. The Chelsea stopper justified Sarina Wiegman 's decision to make her England's number one keeper ahead of Mary Earps, even if some didn't agree with the call at the time. Those were big shoes to fill, but it was no problem at all for Hampton. Even longer ago, though, a medical condition might have stopped Hampton's football career before it even started. She had been diagnosed with strabismus, an eye condition which affects depth perception, but didn't let her stop that chasing her dream. "I was told from a young age that I couldn't play football, that it wouldn't be a profession I could pursue. But here I am,' Hampton told the BBC earlier this summer. Her road to the top hasn't been an easy one in more than one way, but the Euro 2025 run is testament to the 24-year-old's resilience. She saved two penalties in the shoot-out against Sweden in the quarter-final, including a sensational stop to turn Sofia Jakobsson's effort onto the post. And then, in the final, she kept out efforts from Mariona Caldentey and Aitana Bonmati before Chloe Kelly put away the winning spot-kick. For some, though, Hampton's best and most crucial moment came even earlier in the tournament. In a must-win group game against the Netherlands, her inch-perfect pass out to Alessia Russo helped start the move from which Lauren James opened the scoring in a 4-0 England win. Without that, the Lionesses might have found themselves going home long before Hampton produced those heroics in the knockout rounds. "Every player has their one story and journey and hers has been incredible,' England boss Wiegman said. Chloe Kelly had her name up in lights as she scored the winning penalty for the Lionesses but the England women's star has been called cocky by the Spanish media England hero Chloe Kelly has been labelled "cocky" by the Spanish media as her celebrations are criticised. The Arsenal winger smashed home the winning penalty to deliver Euros success for the Lionesses. It was the second time in succession they've claimed European glory but Kelly's antics have not gone down well with foreign media. They claim that her celebration in front of La Roja stopper Cata Coll was "unnecessary". They say that Kelly, who scored the winner in England's 2022 Euros final win over Germany, diverted her path after scoring from 12 yards and made a gesture in front of the keeper, as is claimed by Spanish outlet Dario AS. They wrote: "This is unnecessary, my friend: Kelly's cocky gesture to Cata Coll after scoring the decisive penalty. The England specialist changed her run during her penalty celebration to get past the goalkeeper she had just beaten." It comes after Kelly made a b-line for the England supporters in the corner, but that was described as "cocky" and uncalled-for. Kelly came off the bench for the Euros final and produced some historic contributions. Before scoring her penalty she assisted Alessia Russo's 57th-minute equaliser that cancelled out Mariona Caldentey's opener for Spain. Kelly had missed a penalty in the semi-final win over Italy, scoring the rebound, and was adamant history wouldn't repeat itself. She said: "I was adamant I wasn't missing two on the bounce. I was cool, I was composed. I knew I was going to hit the back of the net. I don't miss penalties twice." The 27-year-old feared her England hopes were disappearing as she struggled for form and minutes whilst at Manchester City. Kelly eventually signed for Arsenal on loan in January, and made her move permanent in July, which saw her get back to her best and land some career milestones. "If that's a story to tell someone maybe experiencing something the same - tough times don't last," she said. "Just around the corner was a Champions League final, won that, and now a Euros final, won that." Kelly hailed the influence of her manager, Sarina Wiegman, as she said: "She gave me hope when I probably didn't have any. She gave me an opportunity to represent my country again."
