David de Gea lays down challenge to Man Utd transfer target - 'It isn't enough'
Fiorentina striker Moise Kean has enjoyed a stellar season, which has caught Manchester United's attention, and David de Gea has called on the Italian to continue producing Fiorentina frontman Moise Kean has been told "one good year isn't enough" after excelling in Serie A - which has attracted the attention of Manchester United. The Italian has endured some less memorable stints in his career, previously struggling to make an impact during his time at Everton. The Toffees signed Kean from Juventus and then sold him back there after he couldn't deliver consistently. Now he's proving his worth after finding a home in Florence. Last term Kean scored a career high 25 goals in 44 games and was named in the Serie A Team of the Season. Interest in him bloomed when it emerged he had a £44.5m release contract in his contract - but the deadline to activate it has reportedly passed. United are looking to bolster their forward line and want a No 9 to compliment new arrivals Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo. They've also been linked with the likes of Nicolas Jackson at Chelsea and RB Leipzig's Benjamin Sesko. Kean is among those names on their shortlist but ex-United star David de Gea has told his new team-mate that his stellar season in front of goal cannot be a one off and he must replicate his numbers. De Gea told Italian outlet Cronache: "When I arrived, my Italian was terrible and we spoke in English. Now I've improved and I communicate with him [Kean] more easily. He had an excellent season, but now for me he needs to have another good year, and then another, and so on. "One good year isn't enough, he needs to continue like this and build on what he's done. He's put in some very good numbers, but he needs to keep it up and prove he can do it over time." De Gea has revealed he would never have stayed to play in England if it wasn't for United despite his contract being allowed to run down before leaving in 2023. The Spaniard spent more than a decade in Manchester before finding a new home in Italy. He said: "I only wanted Manchester United, and while it's true that I received offers from England, I knew it would be impossible for me to play anywhere else. I've spent my whole life there, it's the club that shaped me and allowed me to have a wonderful career. Football is like that, unexpected things happen. Like the opportunity to come here to Florence."

Moise Kean: Man United move unlikely as crucial date missed
Manchester United remain short on attacking options despite the transfer window having been open for well over a month. After securing Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers in a bright start to the summer, no more forward options have come through the door. Advertisement The club are tied up in protracted negotiations for Brentford number 10 Bryan Mbeumo, and all the while the hunt for a new centre-forward is getting more difficult. What's the plan? Across Europe there have been a number of top strikers available for transfer this summer, but United don't appear to have moved for any of them. With the exception of Ipswich Town's Liam Delap, whose bargain release clause was ultimately triggered by Chelsea, the Red Devils haven't made a concrete move for any number 9s. Meanwhile the prolific Viktor Gyokeres is set to join Arsenal and the world-class Victor Osimhen looks destined for Galatasaray. Advertisement Hugo Ekitike is the latest name mentioned, although the fact that United interest has supposedly piqued in the aftermath of Newcastle United getting serious about the Frenchman suggests this is more opportunistic reporting than anything else. Moise Kean Working down the list of options, the Red Devils moved on to a reported interest in Fiorentina's Moise Kean. The Italian is an intriguing proposition, having roundly failed to impress at Everton and also struggling at Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain. However, after scoring 25 goals for Fiorentina last season there is a feeling in some corners that he has finally started achieving his potential. Advertisement Fresh barrier The Red Devils were tipped to trigger the 25-year-old's €52m release clause, but that ship has now sailed as the clause expired today. Corriere dello Sport report this news today, explaining that anyone wishing to sign the player will now have to negotiate a deal with Fiorentina, which would be a 'soap opera'. La Viola now intend to lock Kean down with a 'top-level salary', effectively closing the door to the player as a viable option for United this summer. Interestingly, the release clause comes back into play next year – it is valid every summer for the remainder of Kean's current contract from 1 July to 15 July. If the club are determined to lock him down to a new deal, however, it wouldn't be a surprise to see this clause removed. Advertisement While no contract offer has yet been received by the player from Fiorentina, the report implies it's a matter of when, not if, he signs a new contract at the club. This is backed up by his recent comments that he is 'really motivated to move forward' with the Florence side. Never a target The report notes that Kean shrugged off interest from Saudi Pro League clubs, but that while 'the option of Manchester United remained' a concrete move from the club 'never materialised'. That the Red Devils have watched on as the player's release clause expires, in a summer where every penny counts even more than usual, surely indicates that they never intended to pursue the Italy international in the first place. Advertisement Corriere dello Sport concede that 'a move between now and the end of the transfer window cannot be ruled out', but Fiorentina have 'regained control' and it would be a very difficult deal to do. Man Utd target throws summer deal into jeopardy ahead of transfer clause deadline
Manchester United target Moise Kean has dealt the club a major blow after insisting he wants to stay at Fiorentina this summer - on the same day his release clause expires. Ruben Amorim is eager to further strengthen his struggling forward line after already bringing in Matheus Cunha from Wolves in a £62.5million deal. He has been attempting to sign Brentford star Bryan Mbeumo, but United have had two bids rejected for the player already and have been unable to agree a fee with the Bees - who are said to be holding out for £70m. Mbeumo himself is said to be frustrated with the slow pace of talks and lack of progress and United could have to switch their attentions to other targets in the mean time as they look to have a new attacking option in before the start of the season. Kean - formerly of Everton - has emerged as a possible alternative after a prolific campaign with the Viola that saw him score 23 goals, with a host of European clubs now circling for him. There was a window of opportunity for interested clubs to snap him up for a relative bargain of £44.5m this month thanks to a release clause in his contract - but that is only available between July 1 and July 15. And on the final day of the clause being active, Kean has made it clear he is committed to Fiorentina despite the interest in his signature. Speaking at the unveiling of returning boss Stefano Pioli, Kean said: "I'm very motivated to move forward. Fiorentina has given me so much and has always supported me." He added: "Now it's important to return with renewed motivation and give my best for Fiorentina." The last time the 25-year-old was in the Premier League, he scored just four goals from 39 appearances and was subsequently sold to Juventus in 2021. Other forward targets United are reportedly considering are Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who is a free agent after leaving Everton, Chelsea duo Nicolas Jackson and Christopher Nkunku, while Juventus star Dusan Vlahovic has also been mentioned. Amorim is also hoping to offload a number of his unwanted stars to bring in more funds for his top targets - with Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, Antony and Tyrell Malacia all told to find new clubs. Man Utd not put off by £45m ace who 'slept in late and rarely gave 100 per cent'
Manchester United have reportedly set their sights on former Everton flop Moise Kean, who has reinvented himself back in Italy after his woeful spell in the Premier League Manchester United have honed in on former Everton striker Moise Kean in their hunt for a striker. The 25-year-old built up a reputation for sleeping in and being late during his last Premier League stint. Ruben Amorim's side are in need of bolstering a forward line that managed the fifth-worst goal output in the top flight last season, and with Viktor Gyokeres seemingly on his way to rivals Arsenal, sights have had to shift elsewhere. Ex- Juventus striker Kean, who began his career with the Old Lady before joining Marco Silva's Toffees in 2019 for roughly £30million and returning by way of several loan spells, is now a Fiorentina player and seems to have turned a corner. The Italian arrived in Florence last summer for just over £15m and proved to be a revelation, scoring 25 goals in all competitions, 19 of which came in Serie A. His current contract has a £45m release clause, and the Red Devils are supposedly interested, irrespective of the attitude Kean showed the last time he played for an English club. According to The Athletic, United are keen on activating striker Kean's £45m release clause, but only have until July 15 to decide on the matter, as that is when it expires. The club are seemingly not put off by Kean's past antics, as after his £30m Everton move in 2019, it was reported that the Italian would turn up late for team meetings after sleeping in, and produce sub-par training performances. Kean scored just four goals in 39 appearances for the Toffees and was also found to have breached lockdown rules in 2020 when he held a party at his Cheshire apartment. He was later fined two weeks' wages. Speaking last year about his time in the Premier League, Kean also made an admission about the English weather that could throw another wrench into a prospective United move. "I was in England, it was a new environment… They were so used to not seeing the sun, they were barbecuing on the beach in winter," he stated. "They were in short sleeves in winter. I said to myself: 'These people are out of their minds!' "But England made me learn a lot about myself. I matured a lot. When I got there I didn't play much. I used to think, 'How am I not getting into this team, at Everton?' "Mentally, it made me evolve. I wasn't playing and it was in dark times that I knew I had to grit my teeth. Then the chance to go to PSG (on loan) came along. I moved there and got everything out of myself that I could. I wasn't playing at Everton and I knew I had to give triple. That's how it went." Kean indicated that he has turned over a new leaf since his inexperienced years at Goodison Park, adding: "I was a bit unlucky. I went there expecting to play a bit more. I was 19. "I joined from Juve and thought I was going to smash it. Unfortunately, it didn't go like that. We went through three coaches that year and mentally… it was all new for me. Out of all the experiences I've had, you won't ever hear me say I had a bad one. I find positives in all of them."
