Samuel L. Jackson, Hayden Christensen surprise 'Star Wars' fans at 'Revenge of the Sith' screening: 'Mace lives!'
Star Wars castmates Hayden Christensen and Samuel L. Jackson surprised fans when they showed up at a special 20th-anniversary screening of Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith.
Christensen first took the stage at the historic Hollywood cinema while wielding a red lightsaber, telling the crowd that he had "so many amazing memories of making" the final Star Wars prequel, in which Anakin Skywalker embraces the dark side as he becomes Darth Vader and aids Palpatine in his hostile takeover of the Galactic Republic.
"I see a lot of lightsabers out here," Christensen said to the audience. "I see a lot of red lightsabers, which truth be told is my personal favorite lightsaber color."
He was then interrupted by the voice of an unseen visitor. "Hold on, Skywalker," Jackson said from off stage. "This party ain't even over."
Christensen then introduced his former costar. "Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome to the stage Mace Windu himself, Samuel L. Jackson."
Jackson seemed thrilled by the audience's thunderous applause. "This is so, so, so awesome," he said. "Twenty years later, I can hardly believe that we're still as popular — as happenin' — as we are. I haven't seen Hayden in a while, but so, so, so happy to come back, see him, and see all of you at the same time. Thank you all so much. We had a great time making the film down in Australia. We were hangin' out, doin' stuff."
The Pulp Fiction star then joked about the final scene for his Star Wars character, Jedi Master Mace Windu, who meets his untimely end after unsuccessfully trying to arrest Palpatine and getting hurled out a window in Coruscant.
"I hope you enjoy the effort that went into this and watching me do my 'I move almost all backwards' fight with Palpatine," Jackson said. "Before my unexpected exit. And for the record — Mace lives!"That last quip harkens back to Jackson's insistence that Windu could still return for a new Star Wars project, with him declaring "he's not dead!!!" in an Empire story in 2024.
Jackson has expressed interest in reprising the role for a Disney+ series, and his voice can be heard in an audio cameo as Windu's unseen ghost in 2019's The Rise of Skywalker. But despite the frequency of resurrections within the Star Wars universe, Windu remains canonically dead — for now.
At the end of their appearance at the El Capitan, Jackson and Christensen told the fans in unison, "May the Force be with you."
Christensen recently revealed that he will return to play Anakin once more in Ahsoka season 2. He previously reprised the role on the show's first season, as well as on the 2022 series Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Lego's July Releases Are Swooping In
After a blockbuster June, Lego's having more of a quiet month in July, perhaps in an attempt to get us outside in the sweltering heat rather than indoors with a fan blasting in our faces as we build lots of Lego. But that doesn't mean there isn't anything to tempt your wallet with this month. As Lego gears up for its typically huge month of releases for August, July is looking a bit quiet. But notable highlights include a massive Battle Droid and STAP for Star Wars fans to get stuck into and a cute new Toothless to celebrate the How to Train Your Dragon remake. Keep reading to see all the must-have sets releasing this month! Although inspired by the recent release of the live-action remake, this Toothless set is anything but hyper-realistic. The cute, chibi design comes with an opening mouth and even a little fish Toothless can be posed grabbing. ($70, available at Lego) The latest roadster to enter the Icons line is this slick '60s sports car. Featuring an opening hood and doors, the Cobra 427 S/C comes decked out in Shelby's classic blue-and-white racing livery, and includes a small trophy as a nod to the Cobra's esteemed racing history. ($160, available at Lego now for Insiders, July 4 general release) The latest Marvel buildable mask gives Miles' black-and-red Spidey suit a moment in the spotlight, a color refresh of the brick-builder's past buildable Peter Parker mask. ($70, available at Lego) Nike and Lego's collaboration might have started away from the world of toys with its sneaker mashup, but now it's coming back to the bricks with this display piece depicting the iconic Dunk sneaker, its logo, and its legacy on the court with a rotating basketball. Also included is the much smaller and also much more horrifying B'Ball Head minifigure, who has standard minifig proportions save for his massive, spherical basketball head. So round. So terrifying. ($100, available at Lego) Lego's buildable Star Wars droid line gets a very intriguing sideways step with the Battle Droid's addition to the ranks. Not only does the build include a fully poseable, brick-built Battle Droid, it also includes a STAP speeder bike to display the droid on when it's not running around on behalf of the Trade Federation. Even the minifigure-scaled Battle Droid has its own little STAP to sit on as part of the build's display base! ($140, available at Lego) Want more io9 news? Rumor Claims STAR WARS Series OBI-WAN KENOBI Second Season is In Development — GeekTyrant
Star Wars movies started out with a huge following. The first three films were gold, and a whole lot to live up to. Fans were a little let down by the prequel trilogy, which has had a later-found popularity, and the most recent trilogy was flat out disliked in most cases. The one-shot films and series have had some better luck, with hit or miss reviews, and if the most recent rumor is true, we are going to be seeing a second season of one of the shows that was thought to be limited to its original run. According to scooper Daniel Richtman, "A second season of Obi-Wan Kenobi is in development at Lucasfilm." No additional details were provided, but after The Acolyte split opinions and Skeleton Crew passed many people by, focusing on a fan-favorite character seems like a sure bet. At last October's L.A. Comic-Con, Obi-Wan actor Ewan McGregor took part in a Q&A with fans and confirmed that the studio was "exploring" ideas for more Obi-Wan Kenobi . The actor was said to have revealed his desire to wear Obi-Wan's Clone Wars armour and reunite with Hayden Christensen. Season 1 of Obi-Wan Kenobi is currently streaming on Disney+.
