Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) spokesperson for West Philippine Sea (WPS) Commodore Jay Tarriela filed a cyberlibel complaint against blogger Sass Sasot on Friday.
The complaint was filed at the Manila Prosecutor's Office.
Based on the complaint, Tarriela said Sasot allegedly posted 'scurrilous libels' about him on her Facebook and X (formerly Twitter) accounts, accusing the PCG official of bribery, corruption, and cheating.
'The Respondent (Sasot) employed underhanded tactics to insinuate that I am involved in suspicious and criminal activity, often avoiding any explicit statements. This calculated strategy enables her to cast doubt on my integrity and character without making direct accusations,' Tarriela said.

'However, when viewed in its entirety, it is evident that the Respondent's intent in publicly posting these commentaries is to undermine my character and damage my reputation,' he added.
GMA News Online has reached out to Sassot for comment, but she has yet to reply as of posting time.
Tarriela said Sasot accused him of receiving $4 million 'talent fee' from the United States and bags of money from House Speaker Martin Romualdez. He added that Sasot also tagged him as a 'Philippine Military Academy cheater.'
The PCG official said all these allegations are entirely false and devoid of any factual basis.
Tarriela is also seeking over P1 million in damages. —VAL, GMA News Online

2 men arrested in Las Piñas for selling fake money online

Two suspects were arrested in Las Piñas City for selling fake money online, the Anti-Cybercrime Group (ACG) of the Philippine National Police said Friday. In a statement, the ACG said the suspects, identified as 18-year-old 'Usa' and 30-year-old 'Agila,' were arrested in an entrapment operation on Wednesday. This was in response to the report from the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) regarding the online sale of counterfeit banknotes. The Northern District Anti-Cybercrime Team conducted cyber patrolling and caught a social media post by one of the suspects offering a counterfeit P1,000 bill for only P150. Seized from the suspects were 150 fake P1,000 bills sold for P22,500 during the operation. The suspects are facing charges for illegal possession and use of false treasury or banknotes and other instruments of credit under Article 168 of the Revised Penal Code in relation to Section 6 of the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012. 'The sale of counterfeit currency online undermines our financial system and exploits the trust of unsuspecting citizens. Let this serve as a warning to those attempting to use the internet to circulate fake money,' ACG chief Police Brigadier General Bernard Yang said. 'The PNP ACG is actively monitoring these platforms and will act decisively to bring offenders to justice as we remain committed to protecting the public and preserving the integrity of our currency,' he added. —Joviland Rita/ VAL, GMA Integrated News

Ang says he gave P12 million when Patidongan ran for mayor

Businessman Chalie 'Atong' Ang said he gave Julie 'Dondon' Patidongan P12 million for his mayoral campaign in the last elections. According to John Consulta's report on '24 Oras,' Ang said Patidongan asked for money from the other members of their group after he lost. 'Ang grupo namin, lahat tinatawagan, nageextort. akala niya, matapos niyang magsalita ng kung ano-anong kalokohan, pwede na siyang aalis pag nakuha niya ang pera, yun ang problema,' Ang said. 'Lahat tinatawagan. Si Gretchen tinatawagan. humihingi ng pangkampanya yung asawa. tapos humihingi ng pampaanak,' he added. Ang said it was Patidongan who asked for P300 million in exchange for sparing him from getting dragged into the case of the abduction of the missing cockfight enthusiasts. Patidongan has said that it was Ang who offered the amount for the recantation of his allegations. The former security chief at some of Ang's farms and cockpit arenas alleged that Ang was the mastermind in the abduction and killing of the missing sabungeros from 2021 to 2022, an allegation the businessman denied. The Commission on Elections mirror server showed Dondon Patidongan narrowly losing the mayoral race in Barobo, Surigao Del Sur, to Ronnie Martizano. It also showed that Patidongan was a member of the PFP. Partido Federal ng Pilipinas president Reynaldo Tamayo Jr. confirmed to GMA News Online that one Julie ''Dondon'' Patidongan ran for mayor of Barobo, Surigao del Sur in the recent midterm elections. Tamayo, however, did not know Patidongan personally as he was only introduced by the party's provincial chairman. President Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos Jr. is the chairman of the PFP. Asked if the President knows Patidongan, Castro said there is no information yet on the matter. 'Sa ngayon, wala pa pong nakakarating sa atin patungkol sa ganyang issue,' she said. GMA News Online has also sought the Commission on Elections for information on the matter, but it has yet to reply as of posting time. –Vince Angelo Ferreras/NB, GMA Integrated News
