Nintendo Switch 2 restocks — live updates and retailers to check now
1. Quick links2. Full retailer listings3. U.K. restocks4. LIVE: Latest updates Nintendo Switch 2 supply is still struggling to meet the high demand. The hybrid console has been available for a month, but Switch 2 restocks remain tricky to find. And when a retailer does replenish the console, any available units don't tend to stick around for very long. Luckily, we are seeing regular restocks across major retailers with the likes of Walmart, Target and Best Buy offering gamers fresh opportunities to score a Switch 2 in recent weeks. Meanwhile, Amazon finally entered the game. After being absent from pre-order and launch periods, Amazon launched its Nintendo Switch 2 listing pages last week. Restocks have been significantly more common in the U.K., where getting hold of a Switch 2 has been comparatively easier. Not only have Switch 2 restocks been more frequent in the U.K., but stock has often been available for days at a time. For example, Argos currently has Nintendo Switch 2 in stock, and it's available for in-store collection or delivery to your home. Nintendo Switch 2 launched on June 5 and costs $449 / £395 standalone and $499 / £429 bundled with Mario Kart World. Don't be tempted to overpay via a resale site, as we're bringing you the latest Nintendo Switch 2 restock news in this regularly updated live blog. I've been tracking hard-to-buy gaming items for more than five years, and at this point, I know how to play (and win) the restock game. Now I'm using all of that experience to help you secure a Nintendo Switch 2 this week without having to pay an inflated scalper price. After being absent from the Switch 2 pre-order phase, Amazon U.S. launched a Nintendo Switch 2 listing page and is now allowing shoppers to request an invite to purchase. There are no details yet when invites will be sent, but sign up now to be in with a chance to score a Switch 2. Mario Kart Bundle: $499 @ Amazon Walmart last restocked the Nintendo Switch 2 on Monday, July 7. As with prior restock events, it was initially exclusive to Walmart Plus members before later opening up to everyone. And yes, if you were wondering, stock has since sold out. Mario Kart Bundle: $499 @ Walmart Best Buy last restocked the Switch 2 online on June 11. The electronics retailer has been another regular source of Switch 2 stock, and also held an in-store restock this week on Tuesday, July 1. Mario Kart Bundle: $499 @ Best Buy Target last restocked the Switch 2 on Friday, June 6. This could mean the next drop is a little ways off as the retailer may need some time to build up its inventory again. Mario Kart Bundle: $499 @ Target GameStop is currently sold out of Switch 2 consoles. However, as a specialist video game retailer, we're expecting more stock to arrive shortly, so watch this space. Mario Kart Bundle: $499 @ GameStop My Nintendo Store is using an invite system to allocate its available Switch 2 stock. You will need to meet specific criteria, including having a Nintendo Switch Online account and then be selected and sent an invite to order the console. Mario Kart Bundle: $499 @ Nintendo Store Antonline's Switch 2 listings have a "coming soon" message. This could be a sign that the tech retailer is planning to restock the console in the near future, though that message has been there quite a while now, so it's a little puzzling. Mario Kart Bundle: $499 @ Antonline Newegg's Nintendo Switch 2 pages are live, but there's currently no stock. Newegg may restock the console soon, but nothing is confirmed yet, so this is another one to watch closely for now. Mario Kart Bundle: $499 @ Newegg Sam's Club has a listing page for the Nintendo Switch 2, which currently advises the console is "coming soon." This could be an indication that the retailer is planning to take Switch 2 orders in the near future, so be sure to watch this space. The Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller is practically guaranteed to be the most in-demand Switch 2 accessory, and it packs a suitable upgrade over its predecessor adding a headphone jack, the new "C" button, and customizable back buttons. You can pick up an additional set of Joy-Con 2 at various retailers for $94. iPhone 17 Air — here's what Apple could learn from Samsung's thin phone releases
Now that Samsung has gone through with two thin phone releases, it sets up Apple for a big reveal this fall with the iPhone 17 Air. Personally, I haven't been wowed by either the Galaxy S25 Edge and Galaxy Z Fold 7 — despite their super-thin designs. All the iPhone 17 Air rumors swirling around give us a good idea of what to expect come September when Apple normally announces its new iPhone lineup, but there are lessons the company could learn from Samsung's journey. Whether the new Apple device ends up being called the iPhone 17 Air or iPhone 17 Slim, I just hope Apple can avoid the pitfalls that Samsung made with its thin phone releases. Naturally, designing any phone to be extraordinarily thinner than anything else out there is an engineering challenge of its own — but convincing people to get that device is a totally different matter. Here's what Apple needs to do with the iPhone 17 Air to become a best phone contender. This one I'm not confident about because you have to remember that designing and finalizing a design could happen months to a year in advance, which makes sense given how companies need to line up suppliers and manufacturing partners right after that. So far, the rumors indicate that Apple's going the single camera route as it did with the iPhone 16e. Meaning, the iPhone 17 Air is expected to come with a single 48MP camera on the back of the phone. Such a camera could double as a zoom lens through the pixel binning techniques Apple's known for. But still, a single shooter would mean less utility compared to the dual-camera setup in the Galaxy S25 Edge. At this point I doubt we'll see an ultrawide shooter on the iPhone 17 Air to complement the main one, but I would hope that the new phone gets the same main camera as the iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max — down to the sensor size and the aperture of the lens. As I've pointed out in my Galaxy S25 Edge review, the biggest compromise in designing a thinner phone is that battery life is shortened. The Galaxy S25 Edge lasted less than 12.5 hours on our battery drain test — a better-than-average result but nothing spectacular — and I'm not confident that the Galaxy Z Fold 7 is going to put up a longer run time than the previous Z Fold 6. Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. What's shocking is that the rumors hint at a 2,800 mAh battery for the iPhone 17 Air. That's a substantial dip compared to the 3,900 mAh battery in the Galaxy S25 Edge, so unless Apple somehow managed to over-optimize its A19 chip, I really doubt it's going to even last as long as the iPhone 16e, another phone that did all right on our test but didn't come close to the best phone battery life. Apple needs to do the one thing that Samsung failed at doing with its two thin phone releases, which is to boost its charging speed. Neither the Galaxy S25 Edge or Galaxy Z Fold 7 got an increase, so Apple needs to offset its smaller battery capacity by giving the iPhone 17 Air a much faster charging speed. I'm hoping for a 30W charging speed at the very least, but it would be even better if Apple could somehow push it to 45W. I understand that battery life is always going to be a compromise for any thin phone, but what Apple needs to avoid is repeating Samsung's misstep in pricing its thin phones. The logical (and smart) thing Apple could do is to simply make the iPhone 17 Air as close to the same price as its previous Plus models. I think having a price of $799 would be doubtful for the iPhone 17 Air, but other sources hint that it could be as low as $899. The Galaxy S25 Edge at $1,099 is simply overpriced in my opinion, especially when you consider how $200 separates it from the Galaxy S25 Ultra. In contrast, Apple could be shooting itself in the foot if it ends up making the Air more expensive than the current iPhone 16 Pro Max, which costs $1,199. Regardless, Apple needs to carefully assess the iPhone 17 Air's pricing if it wants to avoid Samsung's misstep. With presumably a smaller battery and only a single rear camera, trying to convince people the iPhone 17 Air should cost more than the Pro models would guarantee an untimely death.

China Is Buying Appliances and iPhones. What Happens When the Subsidies Stop?
Browsing through the selection of Apple iPhones in an electronics store in Tianjin in eastern China, Zhan Demi rattled off the reasons she needed to upgrade her device. Photos and videos of her toddler were quickly eating up her phone's storage. One of her children's teachers asked her to download various apps, again straining the limits of her device. But the factor that ultimately brought her into the store was a government trade-in program aimed at stimulating stubbornly sluggish consumer spending in China. Confronting a trade war with the United States, China's government has poured $42 billion this year into a consumer trade-in program, double last year's amount. The aim was to jolt a much-needed surge in spending at a precarious moment for the economy by subsidizing discounts for a wide variety of consumer goods, from washing machines to electric vehicles. The program has proved so successful that several municipalities have suspended or curtailed the program in recent weeks to prevent the money from running out prematurely. In May, retail sales grew a surprising 6.4 percent, exceeding economists' expectations, spurred by robust demand for smartphones and home appliances. 'We want to shear wool from the sheep,' Ms. Zhan said, using a popular Chinese idiom for seizing an opportunity. She had already taken advantage of the program to buy an energy-efficient air-conditioner and other home appliances at discounts of up to 20 percent. 'If we can upgrade everything at once when there's a good deal, we'll do it,' she said. Want all of The Times? Subscribe.
