UP sanctions Rs 6 crore projects to boost tourism in Kapilvastu
Lucknow: In view of the increasing tourist footfall, the state govt has sanctioned projects worth Rs 6 crore for the development of facilities in Kapilvastu in Siddharthnagar district. "The sanctioned projects aim to enhance infrastructure, build essential tourist amenities, and preserve important sites," said Jaiveer Singh, tourism and culture minister. Kapilvastu was the childhood home of Lord Buddha, making it an immensely sacred destination for followers of Buddhism. Officials said that more than 61 lakh tourists visited Buddhist destinations in 2024. Of this, 79,418 Buddhist tourists, including 62,790 domestic and 16,628 foreign visitors, went to Kapilvastu. The footfall in Kapilvastu tripled since 2022. In 2022, only 26,805 tourists visited Kapilvastu, of which just 98 were international tourists. The footfall has also created a demand and need for better tourist amenities. In wake of this, the department approved infrastructure projects worth Rs 6 crore in Kapilvastu. "The development of the Buddhist Circuit, enhancement of tourist amenities, and effective promotion campaigns have played a key role in this success. The state govt's vision is to firmly position Kapilvastu on the global religious tourism map through comprehensive development plans," said the minister. He added that the upcoming projects are not just about attracting global tourists; they are equally focused on bringing tangible benefits to the local population. "With rising footfall and upgraded amenities, local businesses including homestays, shops, eateries, and transport services are expected to flourish. Youth will gain opportunities through skill development programmes such as foreign language and guide training, while artisans and vendors will find a wider market for their crafts. These improvements are set to generate local employment, stimulate entrepreneurship, and boost the rural economy, turning cultural heritage into a source of livelihood and pride for the common citizen," said principal secretary, tourism, culture Mukesh Kumar Meshram.

New Delhi: Following the Galwan Valley clash in 2020 amid a border standoff with China, India has fast-tracked the construction of the new road. Additionally, to boost border infrastructure along the Line of Actual Control (LAC), an alternate route to the strategic Daulat Beg Oldie (DBO) sector in Ladakh, will be ready next year which will be free of surveillance by Chinese soldiers. It will reduce travel time drastically The 130-km-long new route, via Sasoma-Saser La-Saser Brangsa-Gapshan-DBO, will be a secure and faster alternative to the existing Darbuk-Shyok-DBO (DSDBO) road, which is vulnerable to Chinese surveillance, reports India Today. It further says that the travel time will be down from 2 days to 12 hours as the new road, being built by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), will reduce the distance from Leh to DBO by 79 km, reducing the commuting time drastically. How will it help Indian troops? This will not only allow India to mobilise troops without being exposed to Chinese observation, but will smoothen logistics movement in the critical border area. The world's highest airstrip at 16,614 feet is located at Daulat Beg Oldie. It holds immense strategic value due to its proximity to the Karakoram Pass and the contentious Depsang region. BRO upgrades bridges Defence sources said the BRO has upgraded nine bridges on the new route from 40-tonne to 70-tonne load capacity to facilitate the movement of heavier vehicles and artillery. Trials with Bofors and other systems have already been conducted successfully. The road originates from Sasoma in the Nubra Valley, close to the Siachen base camp. It will allow direct connectivity to DBO without needing to cross Leh. BRO's 'Project Vijayak' is undertaking the construction from Sasoma to Saser Brangsa, while 'Project Himank' is looking after the project to DBO. The total estimated budget is Rs 500 crore.

BHOPAL: The week-long tour by Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav to the United Arab Emirates and Spain recently, has opened enormous opportunities for the central Indian state across multiple sectors, including infrastructure, tourism, films, textiles, sports, data analytics and artificial intelligence. Not only have investment proposals worth over Rs 11,000 crores come Madhya Pradesh's way, but multiple memorandums of understanding (MoUs) too have been inked with a long-term vision. On July 16, an MoU was signed with the Spanish Film Commission to promote film co-production that would creatively and commercially benefit both MP and Spain. The pact will encourage Spanish film-makers to explore shooting locations in the scenic MP. While showcasing the state's scenic and versatile locations along with the state's proactive film policies, making it an ideal destination for international productions, the MP CM invited Spanish filmmakers to conduct location scouting visits to the state. The discussions also covered potential alignment between the film policies of India and Spain, and ways to simplify the co-production process. Both sides explored the possibility of organizing joint film festivals, workshops, and cultural events to deepen bilateral cultural exchange. He also emphasised the need for collaboration in skill development and technical training in areas such as post-production, VFX, and scriptwriting. Discussions also included launching short-term courses and exchange programs in partnership with leading Spanish film institutions.
