Three arrested for selling fake medical certificates in Sungai Petani
Kuala Muda district police chief ACP Hanyan Ramlan revealed that the investigation began after uncovering misconduct involving a police personnel who frequently submitted suspicious MCs. This led authorities to the syndicate, which operated by forging doctor signatures and using counterfeit stamps.
During a raid at a premises in Taman Songket Indah on June 26, police confiscated multiple items, including 20 fake MCs, tablets, forged rubber stamps with doctors' names, A4 paper, a laptop, and a printer. The suspects, unemployed men aged between 30 and 40, reportedly sold each fake MC for RM25 to RM30, primarily targeting civil servants.
Hanyan noted that the main suspect, a heart patient undergoing hospital treatment, gathered doctors' names during visits and misused them on fake stamps. 'Most names were real, but the job titles were incorrect,' he said. The case is being investigated under Section 468 of the Penal Code for forgery.

Teacher killed by relative with history of mental illness
TUARAN: A teacher was found dead, believed to have been murdered by a close relative who reportedly suffers from mental health issues. The incident happened at an unnumbered house in Tenghilan here yesterday. The body of 41-year-old Celesty Christy Celestina Sili was discovered lying at the back of her family home. Freelance preacher dupes two women of RM140,000 in religious school scam
KUALA LUMPUR: Two women lost a total of RM140,000 after they were deceived by a freelance preacher into contributing to the development of a religious school in Selangor. Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said the state Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID) received reports from the two women, both in their 40s and owners of a company. Initial investigations revealed that the victims had become acquainted with the suspect, a local man in his 30s who was known to them as a freelance preacher in 2020, he said. "The suspect deceived the victims by claiming the money was for the development of a religious school, believed to be located in Selangor. "The first victim made three money transfers amounting to RM60,000 between August and September 2020, while the second victim made a payment of RM80,000 in 2019," he said in a statement today. Hussein said the suspect's modus operandi involved using the name of a religious institution to gain the victims' trust, ultimately convincing them to hand over funds for the school's development. He added that two investigation papers have been opened under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating.
