Three held for selling fake medical certificates
SUNGAI PETANI: Three men have been arrested on suspicion of being masterminds in the sale of fake medical certificates (MCs) in the district over the past two years. Kuala Muda district police chief ACP Hanyan Ramlan said the group's modus operandi involved issuing MCs without the need for any medical consultation or treatment. He said the case came to light during a probe into a breach of integrity involving a low-ranking police personnel who had frequently submitted MCs. 'This led to the discovery of the group selling fake MCs,' he told a press conference at the Kuala Muda district police headquarters here yesterday. He said during a raid on a premises in Taman Songket Indah near here on June 26, police seized various items including about 20 fake MCs, tablets, rubber stamps bearing the names of doctors, A4-sized paper, a laptop and a printer, Bernama reported. He said the three unemployed suspects, in their 30s and 40s, allegedly sold fake MCs for RM25 to RM30, targeting civil servants as their primary 'customers'. The main suspect was found to be a heart patient currently receiving treatment at a hospital, he added. 'During each hospital visit, the suspect would note down the attending doctor's name and later use it on rubber stamps. 'Most of the names were those of actual doctors, but the job titles were inaccurate,' ACP Hanyan said, adding that the case is being investigated under Section 468 of the Penal Code.

TAMPARULI: The Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) division, here, lodged a report on Saturday at the Tamparuli Police Station concerning a statement made by businessman Albert Tei during a press conference on June 30. PBS Tamparuli Deputy Division Chief, Madin Anak, said Albert Tei's remarks made outside the Kota Kinabalu Court Complex were defamatory and seditious. Advertisement 'This report is made to strongly refute the baseless accusations made by Albert Tei during his press conference and the related article published by Malaysiakini,' Madin said when contacted. 'This action is also a step to defend the leadership of Sabah, particularly the Chief Minister, Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, as well as the top leadership of PBS - Acting President Datuk Seri Dr Joachim Gunsalam and Deputy President Datuk Seri Jahid Jahim.' Madin said Tei's comments were an attempt to incite public unrest and undermine public trust in the nation's legal and enforcement institutions. On June 30, Datuk Seri Jahid Jahim had publicly denied allegations published by an online news portal accusing him of receiving RM150,000 in bribes linked to a mining scandal. Jahid clarified that he had no involvement in any mining-related scandal and had never received any funds related to mining license approvals, adding that his ministry holds no authority over such licensing matters. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news?
