Dotasra said Congress will strongly contest the municipal elections and the results will lead to BJP's downfall in the state. Dotasra said the BJP govt will have to conduct municipal elections by Dec to Feb as the Congress had filed a petition in court and was raising public awareness on this matter.
Dotasra criticised both the Union and state govts, claiming they had not accomplished anything significant. He cited vacant positions in schools and the dissolution of Neem Ka Thana district and municipal council as examples of the govt's indifference. He said the return of the Congress govt will lead to re-establishment of Neem Ka Thana district and municipal council. tnn

Two booked over Maharashtra Vidhan Bhavan scuffle granted bail

A magistrate court Monday granted bail to two persons booked over the scuffle inside the premises of the Maharashtra Vidhan Bhavan last week. The additional chief judicial magistrate granted bail to Nitin Deshmukh, a supporter of NCP (SP) MLA Jitendra Awhad, and Sarjerao Takle, supporter of BJP legislator Gopichand Padalkar. On July 17, a feud between Padalkar and Awhad over comments made against each other had turned violent with their supporters entering a brawl in the legislative complex. Following this, an FIR was filed. Lawyers Sneha Bhange and Kunjan Makwana for Deshmukh and lawyers Jayant Bardeskar and Datta Mane for Takle, had submitted that they both had roots in society, their further custody was not required in the case and that they will abide by the conditions set by the court. 'On perusal of record, it reveals that the accused is in police custody since 18.07.2025 to 21.07.2025. Moreover, nothing has been found out during investigation regarding motive or other accompanied, investigating agency failed to find out on whose behest they are performing this act in spite of getting ample police custody. During custodial interrogation nothing has come on record, who is theother member of alleged unlawful assembly,' the court said. Manipur Congress seeks clarity from Governor on Assembly status

The Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee on Tuesday (July 22, 2025) sought clarification from Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla regarding the constitutional status of the State's 60-member Legislative Assembly, which has not convened since August 2024. President's Rule was imposed in Manipur on February 13 this year, following the resignation of Nongthombam Biren Singh as Chief Minister on February 9, amid the ongoing ethnic conflict in the State. In a memorandum submitted to the Governor, State Congress president K. Meghachandra Singh questioned whether the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly 'is still alive or already dead' or 'constitutionally deemed to be dissolved from midnight' of February 11, two days prior to the imposition of President's Rule. 'The last sitting of the 60-member House was held on August 12, 2024, and according to Article 174(1) of the Constitution of India, the next sitting ought to have been mandatorily held on or before February 11. However, Mr. Biren Singh resigned as the Chief Minister on February 9, and on that day, the Governor declared his January 24 order summoning the Assembly for February 11 to be null and void,' said Congress spokesperson and advocate Ningombam Bupenda Meitei. Mr. Meitei was part of a four-member delegation from the Congress's legal department that submitted the memorandum at the Raj Bhavan in Imphal. The other members included Wahidur Rahman, S. Shyamacharan, and L. Brojen Singh. The delegation noted that the Assembly was not in suspension at the time of the Chief Minister's resignation, and thus Article 174(1) — which mandates that no more than six months should elapse between two sittings of a Legislative Assembly — remained applicable. The Congress said the Governor's February 9 order effectively 'circumvented the rigours of Article 174(1)' and further delayed the Assembly's sitting beyond the constitutionally permitted time frame. The party asked the Governor to clarify whether the 12th Legislative Assembly has remained 'alive', 'dead', or 'dissolved' since February 12. It also sought to know whether the Governor would now be 'constitutionally barred from summoning the sitting for the next session' of the current Assembly's remaining term. The memorandum added that any gubernatorial action or order requiring a new Chief Minister to undergo a floor test 'would tantamount to the violation of Article 174(1)'.

State prospered in BRS rule, as FM told Lok Sabha: Harish Rao

HYDERABAD The reiteration of Union Finance Minister Niramala Sitharaman in Lok Sabha on Monday that Telangana has made a commendable progress during the 2013-14 and 2023-24 with the State's per capita income registering a 84.3% growth and being among the top three States with highest per capita income. Senior leader of Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) T. Harish Rao said in a statement on Tuesday that it was because of the vision of then Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao and the commitment of BRS for Telangana's development. The State's achievement was a clear indicator of the improvement in the living standards of people and their purchasing power. He explained that the KCR government had introduced several development and welfare programmes during that period and also taken up many new initiatives such as Mission Bhagiratha, Mission Kakatiya, Rythu Bandhu, Rythu Bima, irrigation potential, IT and industrial policies, rural and urban development, employment generation and others, which brought economic stability in the State. However, the Congress which took over the State's reins in December 2023 was pushing Telangana backwards as its government was not implementing any scheme without cuts. The government has not paid the salaries of Homeguards so far this month and it was happening though the Chief Minister was holding the Home portfolio, Mr. Harish Rao said.
