Chris Brown tour at risk after he has bail denied in UK club attack case
Judge Joanne Hirst rejected Brown's bail request after prosecutor Hannah Nicholls said that the crime was 'extremely serious'.
Brown was on tour in the UK in February 2023 when he launched an unprovoked attack on producer Abe Diaw, striking him several times with a bottle at the Tape nightclub in London, Nicholls said.
Brown then chased Diaw and punched and kicked him in an attack caught on surveillance camera in front of a club full of people, she said.
Defence attorney Grace Forbes argued that the American performer was not a flight risk and should be released.
Brown was flanked by court officers in the dock. He confirmed his name and birth date, and said that his address was the local Lowry Hotel, where he was arrested early on Thursday and taken into custody.
His case was transferred to Southwark Crown Court in London, where he is expected to enter a plea to the charge.
Brown's representative did not immediately respond to a request for comment from The Associated Press.
Brown burst onto the music scene as a teenager in 2005 and has become a major star with notable songs such as Run It, Kiss Kiss and Without You.
He won his first Grammy for best R&B album in 2011 for F.A.M.E. and then earned his second gold trophy in the same category for 11:11 (Deluxe) earlier this year.
The singer is due to launch an international tour next month with artists Jhene Aiko, Summer Walker and Bryson Tiller, opening with a European leg on June 8 in Amsterdam.
The Go Crazy singer is set to tour the UK in June and July, with dates Marlay Park in Dublin, Co-Op Live in Manchester and Principality Stadium in Cardiff.

American citizen killed in the West Bank died from arson by Israeli settlers, his family say
THE US STATE Department has confirmed an American citizen had died this week in the West Bank, with family and Palestinian officials attributing his death to arson by Israeli settlers. The Palestinian Authority and witnesses reported on Thursday that Israeli settlers had set fire to homes and cars in the West Bank village of Silwad, the latest attack in the occupied territory. Khamis Ayyad, 41, died from smoke inhalation due to the fires, the Palestinian health ministry said. Speaking yesterday at a press conference in Chicago, Ayyad's family said he had moved to the West Bank several years ago with his wife and children, but continued to work for an American company. He is at least the second American citizen killed in West Bank settler violence in July, after a 20-year-old man was beaten to death while visiting family in the town of Sinjil. 'We condemn criminal violence by any party in the West Bank,' the spokesperson said, on condition of anonymity. The West Bank is home to some three million Palestinians, who live alongside about 500,000 Israeli settlers.
