A 38-year-old man has been arrested in connection to an incident at Orchard Road on the evening of 5 July where a glass bottle was thrown at the window of SMRT bus service 190.
The bottle sailed through the window leaving shattered glass and a gaping hole while a 57-year-old woman passenger was injured as a result. She was taken conscious to Raffles Hospital.
According to preliminary investigations, the man allegedly threw the JINRO soju bottle – which photos show remains intact –at the double-decker bus from a pedestrian walkway.
Officers from the Tanglin Police Division identified the man and arrested him on 8 July. He is expected to be charged in court today with the offence of rash act causing hurt.

SINGAPORE, July 9 — A judge has increased Barrie Lin Pengli's jail sentence from 14 months to two years and three months for abusing five cats in Ang Mo Kio. CNA reported that the prosecution appealed for a longer sentence, calling the case 'cruel' and 'heinous' and saying the district judge had erred by placing too much weight on Lin's major depressive disorder. Lin pleaded guilty in October 2023 to three charges of animal cruelty, with two other charges taken into consideration. The prosecution had initially sought 24 months' jail, while the district court sentenced Lin to 14 months after considering his mental health. Second Chief Prosecutor Isaac Tan told the court that 'a mental condition cannot be a licence to harm others' and that the initial sentence 'is not one that advances the public interest.' He added that animals are 'defenceless creatures' capable of pain and suffering, and that the cats were 'subjected to cruelty, tortured, killed' for Lin's 'depraved satisfaction.' Defence lawyer Azri Imran Tan said Lin's actions were 'reprehensible' but argued the total sentence of 14 months was 'fair and just,' urging the court not to allow public emotion to influence the sentence. Shein has quietly filed papers to float on the Hong Kong stock exchange as it seeks to pressure London into approving a listing. The fast fashion giant, which was founded in China but is based in Singapore, reportedly filed a prospectus for an initial public offering (IPO) last week. Shein submitted papers for an IPO in London some 18 months ago but the process has been left in limbo by its failure to secure regulatory approval. The company has faced allegations of human rights abuses and it faces a crackdown on its business model in the EU and the US. A decision to list in Hong Kong would be seen as an embarrassment for Rachel Reeves, the Chancellor, who flew to Beijing in January for a three-day trip aimed at securing investment in the UK. The trip came as Shein faced questions about its potential £50bn London listing amid criticism from MPs about the lack of transparency around the company's supply chain. Reports began to emerge last month that Shein had started to go cold on plans for a blockbuster London market debut. While it did secure the go-ahead from the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) for a version of its listing plans, this was snubbed by Chinese regulators. Shein had already abandoned plans earlier in the year for a UK warehouse, despite dispatching a team of representatives to the East Midlands to visit potential locations, with the company believed to have been considering sites as large as 600,000 sq ft. The company's filing in Hong Kong is an attempt to bounce UK regulators into approving its London listing. London would still be Shein's preferred destination for a listing if the FCA approved the China Securities Regulatory Commission's version of its prospectus, sources told the Financial Times. Typically, retailers ship clothes in bulk into UK warehouses, paying all the relevant duties at the border.
