Coronation Street bosses urged to wake up over bad stories

Coronation Street bosses urged to wake up over bad stories

The programme has been slammed by viewers for its over-reliance on serious crime stories and the under-utilisation of established characters, something that many believe was the reason for its poor showing at the British Soap Awards.
Corrie, which first aired all the way back in 1960, was outshone by rival soap operas like EastEnders last week, leading to concern from some ITV viewers.
The only title won by Coronation Street at the British Soap Awards last week was claimed by David Neilson (Roy Cropper) for the Outstanding Achievement category.
According to the Radio Times, the rest were won by Hollyoaks, Emmerdale and EastEnders.
Taking to the Coronation Street Reddit, one fan simply demanded that the showrunners "wake up" and added that it "absolutely deserved to get no awards" last week.
They wrote: "The soap awards should be a massive wake-up call. Corrie absolutely deserved to get no awards, sorry to say, not compared to EastEnders.
"The show has been a constant crime saga with pointless loopholed stories carried by meaningless characters. I remember corrie in the 2017/18 days when they did Aidan's suicide, Bethany's grooming plot, David's rape.
"Going even further back, I remember Kirsty and Tyrone's domestic abuse storyline, which was heavily lauded. Even the racism with Max/Lauren and Alia alongside Geoff's abuse of Yasmin was heartbreaking to see.
"Yes, they were miserable and dark stories, but they were relevant stories and had us hooked, and we cared so much about what these characters were going through."
They added: "It's ridiculous how established characters are being sidelined for newer ones who haven't even built a rapport with audiences.
"Work with some charities and do further research on issue-based stories that can be explored instead of being lazy and recycling constant cheating and crime storylines with the same predictable characters.
"I get the newer actors are probs cheaper to use and easier to fit in anywhere to make up a storyline but overusing them creates resentment towards them.
"Use them sensibly and start giving the older cast members more meaty storylines."

Finishing the complaint, the ITV viewer said: "Listen to your audiences for once, otherwise these pointless stories that always revolve around cheating and crime are further going to decrease your popularity."
Other fans of the show agreed with one user writing: "Not going to lie. I do still enjoy Corrie. But there needs to be more 'kitchen sink'/Rovers scenes. The occasional trauma-based storyline better executed. It's like they pick and choose which they want to do well."
Another added: "Coronation Street has been the worst I have ever known it in the past 12 months."

Tina O'Brien is 'getting serious' with new boyfriend Adam Fadlé nine months after split from husband of seven years Adam Crofts

Tina O'Brien is reportedly getting 'serious' with new boyfriend Adam Fadle - nine months after split from husband Adam Crofts. The Corrie star, 41, and the interior design mogul, 38, attended Jack P. Shepherd's star-studded wedding on Saturday (July 26) as they made their first public appearance together. And after being spotted packing on the PDA after the event, sources now claim things are moving quickly between the pair - and marriage might not be far off the table, according to OK! A guest at the wedding told the publication : 'There was no mistaking they were an item on the day.' They added: 'Tina dotes on him - she loves that he's very calm and is a real gentleman, in every way. 'She's head over heels. This is no flash in the pan relationship, they're getting serious.' DailyMail has contacted Tina's representative for comment. It comes after Tina looked happier than ever as she passionately kissed Adam while departing Jack's wedding in the early hours on Sunday. The pair looked more loved-up than ever as they packed on the PDA as they exited the wedding reception. The couple reportedly met through friends in their home town of Cheshire this summer and have been on a string of dates. Tina looked sensational as she went braless under a pretty blue and white backless floral dress which boated a daring plunging neckline. She elevated her frame in a pair of pink heels and toted her belongings in a white handbag while Adam donned a smart navy suit with a white shirt. The couple couldn't keep their hands off each other as they kissed while waiting for their taxi to head back to their Manchester hotel. Adam - who bears a striking resemblance to her ex - is the founder of interior design firm Panoramic Properties, which boasts big names including Paul Pogba and Cristiano Ronaldo as clients. Tina and Adam were all smiles as they walked holding hands following the night celebrating her co-star Jack and his new wife Hanni Treweek. Earlier in the day, Jack and Hanni tied the knot at Manchester Cathedral, just over one year after he popped the question while on safari in Tanzania, Africa, before having a wedding reception at a nearby hotel. Last month a source told The Sun of Tina's new romance: 'Tina fell out of love with one Adam and then fell in love with another. 'She's been on a few dates with him and they've been very open with their relationship. They were out last week snogging like teenagers and they've been seen walking her dog by locals. 'Tina looked totally mad for Adam and they couldn't keep their hands off each other.' MailOnline contacted Tina's representatives for comment at the time. It was revealed earlier this year that the Corrie star had split from her husband after weeks of speculation. The estranged couple, who share ten-year-old son Beau, are said to be 'on good terms' for the sake of their son but their differing lifestyles reportedly drove them apart. They pair first met in a Manchester coffee shop in 2011 and the couple tied the knot in a surprise NYE ceremony in 2018. The star - who plays Sarah Platt in the ITV show - first sparked split rumours when she shared a photograph of herself at co-star Colson Smith's leaving party in Manchester. Taking to Instagram, Tina cut a glamorous figure in a red mini dress and posed with a bare ring finger on display, just weeks after jetting off on holiday without Crofts. She further fuelled the speculation as she was seen with a notably bare finger while out for a cup of tea in Cheshire. Friends then revealed the split as they said: 'Tina and Adam have ended their relationship and are spending some time apart. 'They moved house at Christmas and have decided to live separately for the time being. The insider told The Sun: 'Adam and Tina lead very different lives - he is really into his fitness, while she really enjoys going out with her mates and having a dance, which just isn't for him. 'It wasn't an issue at first because they were head over heels, but as the kids have started to grow up it's become more noticeable. Adam likes a quiet life and unfortunately that just isn't Tina.'

Who is Tia Wardley in Coronation Street? True identity 'solved' in Lisa twist

Coronation Street fans think they know who Tia Wardley really is after Carla Connor was given the name by Logan Radcliffe after asking about Lisa Swain's late wife Becky Tia Wardley in Coronation Street has certainly got viewers speculating over their mystery identity. ‌ The name was mentioned on Friday, and it was hinted they were linked to the case surrounding Becky Swain's demise. Lisa Swain is still struggling to move past the death of her police officer wife Becky years earlier, even looking into the case. ‌ It comes after suggestion earlier this year that Becky may have been a corrupt officer, leading to her possibly being killed. Becky died in the line of duty, hit by a car which was later revealed to have been driven by Logan and Matty Radcliffe. ‌ It was their hints about Becky that left Lisa fearing Becky was in trouble and may have deliberately been killed. But as she and others went snooping this week, she was stopped by her superior DI Costello who clearly knows more than he's letting on. He won't go into matters with Lisa and threatened punishment when he caught her looking at files on his computer. With Carla Connor trying to help her parnter Lisa get the answer she desperately needs, she went to see Logan in prison. ‌ All Logan would say was the name Tia Wardley, demanding money for any new information. But something happened to Logan before anyone would have the chance to see him again. It was because of the chat with Carla and the name he'd shared that he learned from a cellmate how he'd upset a "mutual friend". It seems Logan then got a beating or worse, with fans convinced he may be dead. ‌ So who is Tia, and why are so many people covering up what went down? Why is Costello so eager to silence any investigation into Becky's death, and why is it so important that Logan doesn't spill anything about Becky, or even the mystery Tia? Fans think it has everything to do with Tia's identity, and that she and Becky may be linked. In fact fans think Becky isn't actually dead, and she could have been given a new identity. Fans are wondering if Tia is Becky under a new name, and that there is much more to be exposed. Perhaps this is why Logan mentioned the name, or maybe why Costello is possibly covering things up. ‌ Get the latest drama from the Dales by joining our Emmerdale WhatsApp group As drama continues to unfold in the Yorkshire Dales, the Mirror has launched its very own Emmerdale WhatsApp community where you'll get all the latest breaking news, secrets, and spoilers delivered straight to your phone. Could that be Becky's cover name if she was corrupt?" A third fan said: "Becky is 'Tia Wardley'?" A fourth fan posted: "Tia Wardley will be Becky?!" as another agreed: "Could 'Tia Wardley' be Becky's new identity since after she 'died'?" The comments kept on coming too, with one fan writing: "Becky swain is Tia Wardley." A final comment said: "Becky is in witness protection and Tia Wardley is her alias, that's why Carla couldn't find anything and why they don't want Lisa AND Kit digging."

Spilling her diet hacks while chatting to Woman's Own magazine, Lorraine said: 'My mate Louise is my fitness guru. I've got her to thank for it.' The actress recalled: 'I've eaten a lot of boiled eggs, fish, chicken, no carbs, no crisps and no chocolate.'
