MLAs never satisfied with grants: Home minister G Parameshwara
BENGALURU: Home minister G Parameshwara said that MLAs are never satisfied with the grants given to them. All governments face the same problem. 'It will be difficult to meet the demands of MLAs. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will sort it out,'' he said.
Dr Parameshwara told reporters that at the Congress Legislative Party meeting, the MLAs were allowed to express their opinion. After a few MLAs highlighted issues pertaining to the development of their constituencies, the CM announced Rs 50 crore to each constituency to implement development projects, he said.
Referring to his recent statement in Bagalkot on the development of Badami caves, Dr Parameshwara said the ancient caves need at least Rs 1,000 crore for their conservation. 'I only stated that a proposal in this regard should be sent to the Centre. I did not say that the state government does not have money for such projects,'' he added.
On the 50th anniversary of the Emergency, Dr Parameshwara said BJP leaders want to keep it alive for political gains. One should look forward, not backward. Let them discuss Prime Minister Narendra Modi's blueprint for the country's development in the next 50 years,'' he said.

Vivek Venkata Swamy on Saturday hailed former Prime Minister and Bharat Ratna recipient PV Narasimha Rao as a visionary leader who guided India through challenging times and laid the groundwork for the nation's economic transformation. She noted that Chief Minister Revanth Reddy is now leading the state in line with PVNR's inclusive governance ideals. Meanwhile, in separate messages, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and TPCC president & MLC Mahesh Kumar Goud also paid rich tributes to PVNR. Revanth Reddy remembered him as a multilingual scholar, visionary statesman, and the architect of India's liberalisation. He credited PV's reforms as the foundation of India's journey towards becoming a USD 5 trillion economy. The CM also highlighted his contributions to education, including the establishment of Navodaya Vidyalayas and the Sarvel Residential School, laying the path for the Gurukul system. Reaffirming his government's commitment to quality education, the CM said Telangana is establishing Young India Integrated Residential Schools in every constituency and upgrading existing Gurukul institutions. HC issues notice to state govt over Cauvery aarti near KRS reservoir
Bengaluru: The Karnataka High Court on Friday issued a notice to the state government in response to a petition challenging the proposed Cauvery Aarti near the Krishnaraja Sagar (KRS) reservoir, raising alarms over potential ecological and safety hazards. A division bench led by Acting Chief Justice V Kameswar Rao and Justice C M Joshi passed the order after considering preliminary arguments from Advocate Rajanna R, who appeared on behalf of the petitioner Sunanda Jayaram. The bench has directed all respondents to submit their replies within two weeks. The petition contests the Water Resources Department's plan to hold a Cauvery Aarti event, modelled on the Ganga Aarti, for which the state has reportedly approved a budget of Rs 92.30 crore. The government aims to launch the event by Dasara and is planning a facility to accommodate around 10,000 people to witness the aarti. The funds are intended for building infrastructure to accommodate large public gatherings, including a stadium, parking zones, and other amenities. According to the petitioner, the decision was taken without adequate assessment of its broader implications. The proposed construction activity and influx of visitors could jeopardise the safety of the KRS dam, pollute the river, and disrupt the surrounding ecosystem. There are also concerns that the initiative could negatively affect agricultural practices in the wider Cauvery basin. The petition argues that the administrative sanction violates provisions under the Dam Safety Act, 2021, and seeks to have it annulled. An interim stay on the project's implementation has also been requested.
