Bengaluru Police raid bars and restaurants in West Zone; 19 establishments booked for multiple violations
Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], June 20 (ANI): The Bengaluru City Police conducted a special raid across multiple bars and restaurants in the West zone, revealing several violations, including illegal employment of female staff and breaches of health, excise, and police regulations, officials said on Thursday.
According to a statement by the Karnataka Police, the raids were conducted after the Bengaluru Police Commissioner received credible information regarding illegal activities at certain establishments.
The operations were conducted at bars and restaurants located under the jurisdictions of Upparpet, Cottonpet, Kalasipalya, Cubbon Park, and Ashoknagar Police Stations.
As per the release, 11 special police teams were formed to carry out the raid in the West zone.
During the raid, it was found that 19 bars and restaurants were violating regulations by employing female workers who were provocatively dressed and standing near customers' tables in an indecent manner. Further violations observed included the absence of appointed female security guards, and a lack of cleanliness in kitchen areas. Not designating or maintaining a proper smoking zone and operating beyond permitted hours, it said.
Customers who violated COTPA (Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act) regulations were fined on the spot. Reports have been submitted to the respective police stations for further legal action against the owners of the bars and restaurants.
Another significant finding was that violations were not limited to police regulations but also extended to health and excise departments. These findings have been communicated to the concerned departments, requesting appropriate action. Strict monitoring will continue for these commercial establishments in the coming days. If found violating regulations again, their licenses will be cancelled.
If the public faces any inconvenience or notices any such violations, they are encouraged to call the helpline number/Namma 112. The identity of informants will be kept confidential, the release said.
This special raid operation was conducted under the guidance of C. Vamsi Krishna, IPS, Joint Commissioner of Police, West Zone. Under the leadership of S Girish, IPS, Deputy Commissioner of Police, West Division, with the involvement of officers and staff from the Central and West Divisions as part of the 11 special police teams, it added. : A recently retired scientist from the Indian Veterinary Research Institute (IVRI) in Bareilly was swindled out of ₹ 1.29 crore by cybercriminals posing as law enforcement officers. The victim said he was initially suspicious, but the WhatsApp display picture of the number showed an official police logo (For representation only) The victim, a senior researcher originally from West Bengal, fell victim to a well-coordinated scam involving fake identities and fear tactics. Shaken by the incident, he initially did not inform even his family or friends and failed to respond transparently even when questioned by his bank. A complaint was registered at the cyber crime police station a week after the fraud. Inspector Dinesh Kumar Sharma, who is handling the case, confirmed the registration of the complaint and said efforts are underway to trace the accused and freeze the accounts involved in the fraud. According to the complaint, the retired scientist, who had been residing in government accommodation on the IVRI campus with his family, received a WhatsApp call on June 17. The caller identified himself as an officer from Bengaluru City Police and claimed that the scientist's Aadhaar card had been used to fraudulently obtain SIM cards involved in serious crimes, including human trafficking and employment scams. The victim said he was initially suspicious, but the WhatsApp display picture of the number showed an official police logo, lending an air of authenticity to the call. The caller claimed that a man named Sadakat Khan had been arrested and had disclosed the scientist's name during interrogation, adding to the fear. The impersonator then asked the scientist to contact another number, claiming it belonged to well-known CBI officer Daya Nayak. When the victim called that number, another fraudster, posing as Nayak, pressured him further by alleging that illegal funds had been deposited in his bank accounts. In order to verify which part of the funds were legal and which were not, the victim was told to transfer the entire balance of his bank accounts into a 'safe' government account. He was falsely assured that the amount would be returned after verification. Under pressure and fearing criminal charges, the scientist complied and transferred a staggering ₹ 1.29 crore. Despite the enormity of the transaction, he did not share his experience with anyone — not even his family. It was only after persistent questioning from the bank manager that he began to reconsider his silence. He finally filed a complaint nearly a week later at the cyber crime police station. This case adds to the growing list of high-value cyber frauds where scammers impersonate government officials to extort money through fear and deception.

Ghaziabad woman files complaint against RCB pacer Yash Dayal alleging exploitation on pretext of marriage
Ghaziabad (Uttar Pradesh) [India], June 28 (ANI): Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Indian pacer, Yash Dayal, has been accused of exploitation on the pretext of marriage by a woman from Uttar Pradesh's Ghaziabad. The woman has lodged a complaint through the Chief Minister's online grievance portal, IGRS. In her complaint, the woman alleged that she had been in a relationship with the cricketer for the past five years, during which she was emotionally, mentally, and physically exploited. 'For the last five years, the complainant was in a relationship with a cricketer. The man emotionally, mentally and physically exploited her by misleading her with the promise of marriage. He introduced the complainant to his family as their daughter-in-law, which made her trust him completely,' the complaint stated. The woman further alleged that when she confronted Dayal about the alleged deception, she was subjected to physical violence and mental harassment. 'During the relationship, the complainant was made emotionally and financially dependent on him. Later, she found that the man was involved in similar relationships with other women as well,' the complaint said. She claimed to have reached out to the women's helpline number 181 on June 14, 2025, but said that the matter did not progress at the police station level. Owing to financial and social helplessness, she turned to the Chief Minister's office seeking justice. 'She has chats, screenshots, video calls, and photos etc as evidence,' it added. 'The request is to investigate this matter promptly and impartially, and to take legal action against the accused. This step is important not only for her, but also for all girls who fall victim to such relationships,' it concluded. Notably, Yash Dayal was part of RCB's historic IPL 2025 title win earlier this month, taking 13 wickets in 15 matches. He has represented Uttar Pradesh in all domestic formats and is yet to make his India debut. (ANI)

Lorry carrying luxury cars catch fire near Poigai, Tamil Nadu; driver escape unharmed
ANI 29 Jun 2025, 01:24 GMT+10 Vellore (Tamil Nadu) [India], June 28 (ANI): A container lorry transporting luxury cars worth Rs 3.6 crore caught fire near Poigai village in Tamil Nadu's Vellore district on Friday, causing a temporary disruption along the busy Chennai-Bengaluru National Highway, police said. The lorry, carrying two high-end luxury cars valued at Rs 1.8 crore each, was en route from Chennai Port to Bengaluru when the incident occurred. The driver, identified as a 20-year-old Akash from Uttar Pradesh, reportedly swerved the vehicle to avoid an oncoming two-wheeler, causing the lorry to veer off and come to rest in an empty roadside area. The vehicle remained parked under overhead power lines for an extended period. According to preliminary investigations, strong winds may have caused the wires to scrape, triggering an electric surge. This surge is believed to have led to an explosion in the diesel tank, igniting a fire that engulfed the front section of the lorry. Upon receiving the alert, officers from Virinjipuram Police Station quickly notified the Vellore District Fire and Rescue Services. Firefighters arrived promptly and battled the flames for over an hour before successfully bringing the blaze under control. While the front of the lorry was completely destroyed in the fire, the container section housing the cars remained intact. No injuries were reported, and the luxury vehicles were not damaged. (ANI)
