The Indo-Pak 'Understanding' Is An Undeclared Indian Win

Pakistan now understands that any future reliance on terrorism will invite a full-spectrum declaration of war from India.
While it will be debated whether India should have escalated Operation Sindoor into full-scale hostilities — or perhaps even all-out war — it is important to understand why the current 'understanding" is an undeclared Indian victory, not a peace deal imposed by external pressure, as some are attempting to portray.
1. Modi has redefined the limits of tolerance with Pakistan.
India has signaled that Pakistan's nuclear blackmail will no longer deter it from taking decisive action — even on Pakistani soil — against the so-called 'impregnable wall" of the Pakistan military. India has struck deep into Rawalpindi, the very cradle of Pakistan's military machine. Pakistan Army Chief General Asim Munir has been metaphorically reduced to his base ideological identity — that of a frothing 'Mullah." This symbolic diminution carries long-term consequences for the army's perceived supremacy within the Pakistani state. In recent days, Pakistan's civil society has witnessed the visible humiliation of the military's claim to be the ultimate 'defender of the Pakistani state." For the first time, it is now conceivable that the Pakistani military may be relegated to the barracks.
2. The kinetic response to Operation Sindoor has been halted — on a condition.
Pakistan now understands that any future reliance on terrorism will invite a full-spectrum declaration of war from India. This reflects Prime Minister Modi's preparedness to escalate without warning in response to any credible, Pakistan-sponsored terrorist attack. Formulaic denials, hollow declarations of innocence, and vague claims of operational ambiguity from the Pakistan military are no longer accepted as justifications or shields. This marks a decisive break from the old status quo and will weigh heavily on the minds of Pakistani military planners. They must now abandon the strategy of low-cost, low-intensity 'jihad by chicanery" against India — or risk pushing the region, and perhaps humanity, toward catastrophe.
This doctrine aligns with strategic principles adopted by nations like Israel, the United States, and Russia. While this is not the beginning of a general 'era of war," Modi has made it clear that India will not hesitate to pursue a 'just war" when its territorial integrity is threatened.
4. India may reconsider its 'No First Use" nuclear posture.
It is increasingly possible that India may revise its NFU policy in the near term to underscore its willingness to respond with overwhelming force if provoked. Even if not currently under formal review, this is a strategic imperative India must weigh seriously to restore credible deterrence.
5. Operation Sindoor is not over – it has transformed.
It continues under a new guise: as a long-term diplomatic, trade, economic, and water offensive aimed at systematically raising the costs for Pakistan's continued provocations. These non-kinetic actions rest on internationally recognised legal and moral grounds, giving Pakistan little room to maneuver. It is an undeclared siege – unseen but deeply felt.
6. India's anti-terror campaign is entering an unconventional phase.
New strategies are being employed to challenge Pakistan's territorial and ideological coherence. While it would be imprudent to list these methods publicly, it is sufficient to say that the Pakistani state is now facing the real prospect of an existential crisis – unless it changes course swiftly and decisively.

Stop harassment of Bengal workers in your state, CS Pant writes to Odisha

Kolkata: Indicating a growing frustration with Bengali-speaking migrant workers being illegally detained in Odisha as Bangladeshis, Bengal chief secretary Manoj Pant on Thursday wrote to his Odisha counterpart, Manoj Ahuja, to put an end to this "continuing harassment faced by people from West Bengal" in the neighbouring state. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Samirul Islam, chairman of West Bengal Migrant Workers' Welfare Board and Trinamool's RS MP, threatened to move Calcutta High Court on the issue. "Thousands of people from Odisha live and work peacefully in Bengal. Not once has Bengal govt treated them with even a fraction of the hostility that Odisha is showing now," he said. Pant, in his letter, wrote: "We are receiving disturbing reports of such individuals being detained without due legal process in regions around Paradip and across coastal districts such as Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Bhadrak, Malkangiri, Balasore and Cuttack. What is even more concerning is that even when these persons produce valid identity documents — including Aadhaar cards, ration cards, voter IDs, electricity bills and PDS documents — their claims are being dismissed. In many instances, they are being asked to produce ancestral land records dating back several generations, an unreasonable and unjustifiable demand for migrant workers." Pant also mentioned how, "alarmingly, there have also been instances where, despite verification reports from competent authorities in West Bengal confirming the identity and citizenship of the individuals, there has been no positive action or relief". "I appeal to you to take a humanitarian view of the matter and ensure that these individuals, who are Indian citizens, are not subjected to arbitrary detention or harassment based on linguistic or regional identity," he wrote. "It is deeply distressing to learn that many of them are being targeted solely because they speak Bengali — their mother tongue — and are being unjustly labelled as Bangladeshi infiltrators. This sweeping generalisation is not only unfair and discriminatory, but also deeply hurtful to citizens who have every right to dignity and protection under the law," Pant added. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Islam, who has been vocal on the issue, said: "The Odisha authorities refused to accept any identity document like Aadhaar and EPIC, and demanded verification from Bengal govt. We promptly provided the required details — verified and furnished by none other than DMs and SPs. But even that failed to satisfy them. Next, they asked for the electoral roll where names of these individuals were listed. Once again, the Bengal administration complied and sent the relevant documents. " The MP said: "Our CM Mamata Banerjee believes in diversity and strives to maintain harmony in every sense. So, I sincerely urge the Odisha govt and BJP: do not play with fire. If you ignite the politics of hatred, you may end up being consumed by your own flames."

Govt clears acquisition proposals for military goods worth ₹1.05 lakh crore

The Ministry of Defence's Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) on Thursday, 3 July 2025, cleared capital acquisition proposals worth nearly ₹ 1.05 lakh crore as the nation's military seeks to onboard new defence equipment. As per the official release, the 10 capital acquisition proposals are set to be carried out through indigenous sourcing from Indian companies. 'Defence Acquisition Council, under the chairmanship of Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh, on July 03, 2025, accorded Acceptance of Necessity (AoN) for 10 capital acquisition proposals amounting to approx. ₹ 1.05 lakh crore through indigenous sourcing,' said the Ministry of Defence in its official statement. The Acceptance of Necessity (AoN) or the need for these proposals is for defence equipment like the procurement of Armoured Recovery Vehicles, an Electronic Warfare System, an Integrated Common Inventory Management System for the Tri-Services, and Surface-to-Air Missiles. 'These procurements will provide higher mobility, effective air defence, better supply chain management and augment the operational preparedness of the Armed Forces,' said the Ministry of Defence in the official statement. The Defence Ministry also cleared the AoNs for the procurement of Moored Mines, Mine Counter Measure Vessels, Super Rapid Gun Mount and Submersible Autonomous Vessels, as the government seeks to mitigate the potential risks posed to the Naval and Merchant Vessels of India. 'To provide further impetus to indigenous design and development, AoNs were accorded under the Buy (Indian-Indigenously Designed Developed and Manufactured) category,' said the ministry. The Ministry of Defence in June 2025 was planning to review a ₹ 30,000 crore proposal to procure three regiments of the indigenous Quick Reaction Surface-to-Air Missile (QR-SAM) system for the Indian Army, according to Mint's earlier report. On 28 March 2025, the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) approved the biggest-ever deal to buy 156 Light Combat Helicopters worth over ₹ 62,000 crore for the Indian Army and Indian Air Force from Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd.
