Pakistan Test-Fires 2nd Missile Amid Rising India Tensions After Pahalgam Terror Attack
The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) confirmed that Pakistan had successfully tested the Fatah surface-to-surface missile with a range of 120 km. The test is in line with the current military exercise 'Exercise Indus' and was intended to check the operational readiness, navigation capability, and improved accuracy of the missile.
The test is the culmination of Saturday's training firing of Abdali Weapon System, a surface-to-surface ballistic missile, which can target up to 450 kilometers away.

These incidents follow the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir, which killed 26 individuals—majority of them tourists. The attack was attributed to an offshoot of Pakistan-based terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), which led India to take prompt retaliatory actions.
In retaliation, India suspended the Indus Waters Treaty, canceled visas granted to Pakistani citizens, and tightened border security. At the same time, Pakistani troops have continued unprovoked ceasefire breaches along the Line of Control (LoC), with exchange of fire being reported for the 11th straight night as of May 4–5. India has retaliated with strong retaliatory action.
India Exhibits Military Readiness
India, however, has asserted its military strength. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given the armed forces "full operational freedom" to act as they deem fit. Last week, the Indian Air Force conducted Exercise Aakraman with frontline fighter aircraft like Rafales, while the Navy showcased combat readiness across strategic seas.
On Friday, IAF aircraft carried out a spectacular "land-and-go" mission on a section of the Ganga Expressway in Shahjahanpur, Uttar Pradesh—a demonstration of India's speed of deployment.
As both countries are intensifying military exercises and diplomatic tensions are running high, the situation is precarious with international stakeholders closely watching events in the region.

Farmer groups to step up campaign against FTA with U.S.
A general body meeting of the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) held in New Delhi on Sunday (July 20, 2025) has warned the Union government against going ahead with the proposed trade agreement with the United States. The SKM said, in a statement on Monday (July 21, 2025), that the general body has also called for nationwide protests against the deal as it could act against the interests of farmers. To protest the BJP-led NDA government's moves to accept USA's pressures and increase imports of food and dairy items, including Genetically Modified foods and penetration of multinational corporations in food markets, SKM will issue a mass warning through these mass protests,' the statement said. 'Peasants will raise the slogan 'Corporations Quit India' on August 13 by organising tractor/ motor vehicle parades and protest demonstrations and burn effigies of the US President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Narendra Modi,' the statement added. The meeting congratulated the leadership of the united trade union movement for the strike action on July 9. 'This was the 22nd general strike since the invention of neo-liberal policies and its success has filled confidence to all the democratic sections in the society that the entire working people are ready to fight back the anti-people policies of the ruling classes,' the statement said.

Mamata accuses Modi Govt of being ‘controlled' by U.S. President
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday (July 21, 2025) accused the Union Government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi of being controlled by the President of United States of America Donald Trump. 'Where is India now? You [Prime Minister Narendra Modi] are being controlled by the U.S. President [Donald Trump], and yet you boast loudly,' Ms. Banerjee said addressing her party's annual Martyrs Day rally in Kolkata. The Chief Minister felicitated them with traditional 'uttariyas' and announced a financial assistance of ₹1 lakh for each family. Ms. Banerjee had announced ₹10 lakh compensation for each of the families of three Bengali tourists killed in the attack. The West Bengal Assembly on June 10 unanimously passed a 'resolution conveying appreciation for the Indian Armed Forces' The Chief Minister also raised the issue of deportation of Indians in chains from the U.S. and asked what was the Prime Minister was doing then. 'Remember how the .U.S President sent back two planes filled with people to Gujarat, with their hands and feet shackled and tied? Where were you then? No one was ever sent back from Bengal, because Bengal's talent goes there,' she said. Earlier also the West Bengal Chief Minister had called the deportation of Indian nationals in chains a matter of 'national shame'.

'The success of Operation Sindoor has increased global interest in India's emerging 'Made in India' defence capabilities,' he said, adding that several global leaders had praised India's indigenous military technologies during recent interactions. Prime Minister, then, spoke of the broader impact of such operations in boosting domestic innovation, employment, and strategic confidence. 'This spirit will drive research, innovation, and manufacturing in India's defence sector — creating new opportunities for our youth,' he said. On internal security, Modi declared that the government's efforts have led to a sharp decline in Naxal and Maoist influence.
