PGA raids Batu Gajah factory, seizes RM10 mln in illegal aluminium
The raid, conducted yesterday evening, involved multiple enforcement agencies.
PGA Northern Brigade Deputy Commander ACP Shamsul Baharin Aman confirmed the operation was a joint effort between the 3rd Battalion PGA Intelligence Unit, Northern Brigade Headquarters, and the 1st Battalion PGA, supported by the Perak Department of Environment (DOE) and Batu Gajah District Council.
Authorities found the factory operating without a valid licence under the Environmental Quality Act 1974.
'The premises contained a significant amount of aluminium, along with processing machinery and a lorry engine,' Shamsul Baharin said. A 37-year-old factory manager was detained for questioning.
The total seizure, including equipment, was estimated at RM11,812,280. Investigations revealed the facility had been operational since 2023, employing 10 workers to process and export metal materials.
Perak DOE director Datuk Dr Mohammad Ezanni Mat Salleh confirmed the seized aluminium falls under scheduled waste code SW 422, which prohibits unlicensed handling of metal-solvent mixtures. - Bernama

Two men charged for sexual offences against underage girls
KOTA KINABALU (July 18): Two men were separately charged in a Sessions Court here today for committing sexual offences against underage girls. In the first case, 33-year-old Jumat Pilih pleaded not guilty to a charge of raping a 15-year-old girl. The offence was allegedly committed around 6pm on November 20, 2021, in a storeroom at the Kadazan Dusun Cultural Association (KDCA) grounds in Penampang. He was charged under Section 376(1) of the Penal Code, which carries a prison sentence of up to 20 years and whipping, upon conviction. The court fixed August 21 for pre-trial case management. Bail was set at RM10,000, with RM5,000 to be deposited, under two local sureties. Jumat was also ordered to report to the nearest police station twice a month and to surrender his passport. He was reminded not to interfere with prosecution witnesses. Deputy Public Prosecutor Nurul Shafeerah Mad Iskim appeared for the prosecution, while counsel Dominic Chew represented the accused. In a separate case, 43-year-old Olkestria Bandang pleaded not guilty before judge Hurman Hussain to a charge of sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl. The alleged incident took place around 7pm in November 2024, inside a car at a parking lot in Inanam. He was charged under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, which provides for imprisonment of up to 20 years and whipping, upon conviction. The court set October 17 for pre-trial case management and granted bail of RM3,000 under one local surety. Olkestria was also prohibited from approaching or harassing the victim, her family, and any prosecution witnesses. Deputy Public Prosecutor Fazriel Fardiansyah Abdul Kadir prosecuted, while counsel Nartiah F. Mirchelle Sambatan appeared for the accused.

F&B worker claims trial to charge of allowing bank account to be used by third party
SEREMBAN: A 27-year-old man pleaded not guilty at a Magistrate's Court here to a charge of allowing his bank account to be used by a third party. Lee Shin Nam, who works in a food and beverage outlet, claimed trial after the charge was read to him before Magistrate Saiful Sayoti. He was charged with committing the offence at 4.51pm on March 26 at a bank in Taman Semarak, Nilai. The accused was charged under Section 424B of the Penal Code which carries a fine of between RM10,000 and RM100,000 or imprisonment of up to seven years or both upon conviction. Section 424B of the Penal Code in Malaysia addresses the offence of giving possession or control of a bank account to another person without lawful authority or purpose. In most instances, these accounts are then used as mule accounts and to carry out scams. Deputy Public Prosecutor Nik Nur 'Aqilah Syarfa Nik Zaidi then offered the accused bail of RM6,000 pending mention. However, his lawyer from the Legal Aid Department, Chrysandy Lai asked for a lower amount as the accused would be bailed by his lorry driver father who earned about RM2,000 a month. Saiful then set bail at RM3,000 with one surety and fixed Aug 21 for mention.

GOF nabs trio, seizes 75,500kg of crude palm oil
IPOH: The General Operations Force (GOF) North Brigade detained three men suspected of attempting to misappropriate 75,400kg of crude palm oil during Op Taring Palma in Taiping yesterday. Its commander SAC Shahrum Hashim said the three-hour operation also led to the seizure of two tanker lorries, one bonded lorry and three mobile phones, with an estimated total value of RM975,200. He said the team detected a suspicious tanker lorry in the area and trailed it to the side of Jalan Taiping-Bagan Serai. "Further investigation revealed that the suspects had transferred the crude palm oil from the tanker lorries to the bonded lorry. "An inspection found 10 blue drums with a capacity of 200 litres each in the bonded lorry, along with several tools used to transfer the crude palm oil," he said in a statement today. He said the suspects and the seized items were handed over to the Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB) Northern Region for further investigation under Regulation 5 of the MPOB (Licensing) Regulations 2005. "The Taiping Police Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division also issued two summonses to the suspects for offences under the Road Transport Act 1987," he said. – Bernama
