NMC to deploy 850 E-buses in two years

Time of India25-06-2025
Nagpur: In a major push for sustainable public transport, Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) will introduce 850 electric buses (E-buses) over the next two years, replacing the ageing diesel fleet.
The expansion will also include a dedicated e-bus service to and from Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport, aimed at providing seamless connectivity for air travellers.
Out of the proposed 850 e-buses, 30 were already procured under the first phase with funding of Rs137 crore sanctioned by the state govt in April 2023, following a 2023 budget announcement by then deputy chief minister and current CM Devendra Fadnavis.
These 30 e-buses will be launched on new routes from July 1, with route finalisation underway.
As of now, NMC operates 445 city buses, including 214 e-buses. The number will gradually increase with the addition of 230 nine-metre and 250 twelve-metre electric buses. Supporting infrastructure is being developed, with depots to come up at Wathoda and Khapri, and a dedicated charging depot named Matrishakti E-Depot in Lakadganj.

Additionally, 150 buses will be received under the PM Shri scheme.
The transformation comes as the NMC begins decommissioning 76 remaining diesel buses — part of a 240-bus fleet purchased in 2009 under JNNURM. All diesel buses are to be phased out by December 2025.
Transport manager Vinod Jadhav said operating costs are expected to drop by up to 40%, making the transition both environmentally and economically beneficial. He added that airport routes will be finalised based on flight timings to ensure reliable and affordable last-mile connectivity.
With 1.4 lakh daily commuters, NMC also plans to revise existing routes and introduce new ones to enhance public transport coverage.

'You have been gravely misled by Asim Munir': Baloch leader's open letter to Trump; oil reserves not in Pakistan

Mir Yar Baloch wrote an open letter to Donald Trump warning him that he was fooled by Pakistan. Baloch leader Mir Yar Baloch wrote an open letter to US President Donald Trump warning him that he had been misled about "massive oil reserves" in Pakistan by General Asim Munir and by their diplomatic challenges. The reserves of oil, natural gas, copper, lithium, uranium and rare earth minerals are not located in actual Pakistan and belong to the 'Republic of Balochistan', he wrote. "Your recognition of the vast oil and mineral reserves in the region is indeed accurate. However, with due respect, it is imperative to inform your administration that you have been gravely misled by the Pakistani military leadership, particularly General Asim Munir, and by their diplomatic channels regarding the true geography and ownership of these critical resources," he said. "These untapped reserves of oil, natural gas, copper, lithium, uranium, and rare earth minerals are not located within the territories of Punjab which is the actual Pakistan. They belong to the Republic of Balochistan, a historically sovereign nation currently under illegal occupation by Pakistan. The claim that these resources belong to Pakistan is not only false, it is a deliberate attempt to misappropriate Balochistan's wealth for political and financial gain," he added. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Switch to UnionBank Rewards Card UnionBank Credit Card Apply Now Undo Trump announced a major deal with Pakistan in which Pakistan and the US will work together on developing "their massive Oil Reserves," according to a Truth Social post of Trump. "We are in the process of choosing the Oil Company that will lead this Partnership," Trump wrote. Cnergyico, Pakistan's biggest refinery, claimed to have finalized a deal with Vitol to import 1 million barrels of American oil, the company's vice chairman, Usama Qureshi, told Reuters. This will be Pakistan's first acquisition of US crude oil. The Baloch leader said Balochistan is not for sale. "We will not permit Pakistan, China, or any other foreign power to exploit our land or its resources without the explicit consent of the Baloch people. Our sovereignty is non-negotiable, and our struggle for rightful ownership and independence continues with dignity and resilience," he wrote in his open letter to Trump.

‘If irresponsibility has a face': Sitharaman slams Rahul over Arun Jaitley remarks; calls them ‘despicable'

Nirmala Sitharaman (left), Rahul Gandhi (ANI) NEW DELHI: Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Saturday criticised Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for his comments on late union minister and senior BJP leader Arun Jaitley , calling them 'irresponsible' and stating such remarks ultimately damage the Congress. Sitharaman responded to Gandhi's comments made earlier in the day where he had claimed that former finance minister Jaitley 'threatened' him on behalf of the government when he was fighting against the farm laws. In a post on X, Sitharaman said, "If irresponsibility has a face, it is Rahul Gandhi, Leader of Opposition in LS. To throw baseless allegations at people in public life, even those who are no longer with us, is becoming a personality trait for him. His remarks on the late Shri. Arun Jaitley is despicable. India needs a strong opposition party. An irresponsible leadership hurts his party @INCIndia and the country. But does he care? — nsitharaman (@nsitharaman) Speaking at the Congress-organised Annual Legal Conclave 2025, the leader of opposition alleged in his address that the NDA government had deployed the late minister to "threaten" him for opposing the farm laws introduced by the Modi government in 2020. "I remember when I was fighting the farm laws, Arun Jaitley was sent to me to threaten me. He told me, 'If you carry on opposing the government, fighting the farm laws, we will have to act against you. ' I looked at him and said 'I don't think you have an idea who you are talking to,'" Rahul Gandhi said. Earlier Gandhi's claim drew a sharp rebuke from Jatley's son Rohan Jaitely, who accused the Congress MP of misrepresenting the facts and politicising the memory of the late leader. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Syahmad: New Container Houses – Take A Look At The Prices! The Congress leader also criticised the election commission of India, accusing it of being complicit in widespread voter fraud.
