RELEASED York City midfielder Olly Dyson has penned a permanent contract with Spennymoor Town.
Dyson's time as a York player was confirmed to be ending after a near-five year spell with the Minstermen, which started in September 2020.

He initially joined the club from Huddersfield Town, and played a major part in the City team that gained promotion from the Enterprise National League North in the 2021/22 season.
Whilst with York in the Enterprise National League, Dyson would impress in their debut campaign back in the fifth tier.
The midfielder would go on to make 42 appearances, scoring four goals, before being named as York's Clubman of the Year.
A turbulent 2023/24 season for City would see game time become somewhat limited for Dyson, as he made 23 appearances under three different managers across the campaign.
Dyson would also have a brief spell on loan at Scarborough Athletic, which was ended early due to a foot injury.

After returning to York under manager Adam Hinshelwood, Dyson would spend the entirety of the 2024/25 campaign on loan at Spennymoor Town in the National League North, where he established himself as a crowd favourite.
The 25-year-old made 45 appearances for Spennymoor, playing at both right-back and in midfield, and had the opportunity to play at Wembley Stadium in the Isuzu FA Trophy final.
Whilst with Spennymoor, Dyson added to his personal trophy cabinet, scooping up both the supporters and management staff's Player of the Season awards.
In total, Dyson made over 100 appearances for the Minstermen, and also earned a call-up to the England C squad during the 2022/23 season.

Spennymoor manager Graeme Lee commented on the club website: 'I'm absolutely delighted that Olly is joining us permanently.
'Everyone knows how important he was for us in our successes last season, and we were determined to do everything we could to keep him at the Football Club.
'Not only was he an asset to us on the pitch, but Olly is also a great lad to have around the place and his attitude to his training and playing is first class.
'He deserved the accolades he got last year because of his consistent performances in whatever position he played, and we're excited to see him continue that into 2025/26.

'Things are coming together for us now in terms of the squad and this was a key piece of business for us – and one we want to build on now.'
On his York departure, Dyson wrote on social media: "My time at York City FC has come to an end.
"I came as a 19 year old boy and I now leave six years later with the most amazing memories and achievements I could ever of wished for.
"Thank you to all the players, managers, staff and most importantly the fans of the past and present for making the club my home.
"I know last year was a disappointing one on a personal note but that doesn't take away everything we achieved together over the years.
"I wish the club all the success in the future. Thank you."

Prague pencilled in for double York Racecourse visit

Prague will visit York twice this Summer, starting today at today's races. (Image: PA) DYLAN Cunha has pencilled in for Prague to visit York Racecourse twice this Summer – starting with a shot at this Saturday's £100,000 Al Basti Equiworld, Dubai Criterion Stakes. It is the first time the Knavesmire has ever staged this Group 3 race (previously held at Newmarket) so, as part of a wider strengthening of its seven-furlong programme, it will give the winner a free entry* into the Group One Sky Bet City of York Stakes on Saturday 23 August. Advertisement The Al Basti Equiworld, Dubai Criterion Stakes will also be the first time Prague has been tested at this distance. If it proves a success, Newmarket-based Cunha will bring back his stable star for that £600,000 Sky Bet City of York Stakes, which is set to be staged as a Group One for the first time. Otherwise, the trainer will target the nine-furlong Group 3 Sky Bet Strensall Stakes, scheduled for the same card at the Sky Bet Ebor Festival. This weekend's fact-finding mission sees Prague back in action, having not been seen on a racecourse since British Champions Day at Ascot last October. The five-year-old proved a real star for connections in 2024, finishing second in the Group 3 Superior Mile Stakes at Haydock before winning the Group 2 Joel Stakes over the Rowley Mile at Newmarket. Advertisement As a result, Prague must carry 9st 13lb – 5lb more than any other horse in the 13-strong entry. Cunha said: 'He's in great form – as well as I've ever seen him. He's training really well. 'The drop to seven furlongs is just that he's quite keen in his races – we just want to teach him to settle. "We've been going a mile and a mile and a quarter with him, but his mother was actually a six-furlong Group 3 winner. 'We're thinking he might just be that keen because we might be going too far with him. So, it's an experiment. "If he runs in the first two, he'll go to the City of York. If it's too short, he'll run in the Strensall. Advertisement "He's definitely going to York twice in the next two months!' Cunha had hoped to have Jim Crowley aboard Prague for his seasonal bow, but the jockey looks likely to be required elsewhere by Shadwell, who retain him. Instead, Prague will be ridden for the first time by Kieran Shoemark. Cunha said: 'Jim would have ridden him, but he's booked for Shadwell. So, Kieran then messaged for the ride and I said, 'Absolutely'. He rides quite a bit for us – so, a great replacement for Jim.' The trainer enjoys visiting York where Silver Sword gave him a first high-profile success at the 2023 Ebor Festival. Advertisement And Cunha has fingers crossed Prague can put him back in the same winner's circle on Saturday. He said: 'He'll jump out, go forward and he'll be sitting in the first three or four and hopefully run a huge race for us.' Saturday's seven-race card starts at 1.55pm with the Al Basti Equiworld, Dubai Mile Handicap.

Alonso's 3 hits help Mets overcome loss of pitcher Canning in a 4-0 win over Braves

NEW YORK (AP) — Pete Alonso had three hits and an RBI and the New York Mets overcame the loss of starting pitcher Griffin Canning to injury in the third inning Thursday night for a 4-0 victory over the Atlanta Braves and a split of the four-game series. The Mets, who had lost 10 of 11 games before a 7-3 win over the Braves on Wednesday night, moved back into first place in the NL East, a half-game ahead of the Philadelphia Phillies. Canning worked 2 2/3 scoreless innings before suffering a left ankle injury on a non-contact play while trying to race off the mound. After the game, Mets manager Carlos Mendoza said it 'looks like an Achilles injury.' The team said he would undergo imaging to determine the severity of the injury. After Canning left, four relievers limited the Braves to two hits the rest of the way. Austin Warren (1-0) replaced Canning and threw 2 1/3 one-hit innings. Tyrone Taylor lofted a sacrifice fly against Grant Holmes (4-7) in the fourth, and Alonso doubled the lead with a run-scoring hit in the fifth. Jeff McNeil added a two-run single in the seventh. Holmes allowed two runs and six hits while walking three and striking out six over five innings. Key moment Canning's injury may have created another vacancy in a depleted rotation for the Mets, who are already without ace Kodai Senga (right hamstring) and Sean Manaea (oblique, elbow). Key stats Braves first baseman Matt Olson played in his 700th straight regular-season game — the longest streak in the majors since Miguel Tejada's 1,152-game streak from 2000-07. … The first pitch temperature was 69 degrees (20 Celsius), 28 degrees cooler than Tuesday's Citi Field record. Up next LHP David Peterson (5-3, 2.98 ERA) starts for the Mets against Pittsburgh RHP Mitch Keller (1-10, 4.02) Friday night. The Braves and RHP Bryce Elder (2-4, 4.77 ERA) host the Philadelphia Phillies and RHP Mick Abel (2-1, 3.47). ___ P MLB:
