Father & brother jailed for raping visually impaired girl, mother held for covering up crime
Ranchi: The father and a brother of a 19-year-old visually impaired girl were arrested and sent to jail on Tuesday for allegedly raping her for the past three years. The mother was also held for allegedly covering up the crime, police said. The three were arrested under the POCSO Act and sent to jail after being produced in court after the girl, with the support of a neighbour, lodged an FIR against her two elder brothers and parents with the local police on Monday, police added. Quoting the survivor, the officer in-charge of the local police station said, "The father and the two elder brothers repeatedly raped the girl for the past three years. She had become pregnant once three years ago. Her mother had then taken her to a doctor and forced her to undergo an abortion to cover up the crime." The father is a daily wager, while the mother works as a babysitter. The second brother, who has been arrested, is also a labourer, the police said. "Raids are under way to nab the second brother, who also works as a labourer, and the doctor who performed the abortion on the survivor, when she was a minor," the OC added. The district legal services authority (DLSA), Ranchi, has come forward to provide legal assistance to the survivor. The DLSA, in a statement, said, "Every possible effort will be made to rehabilitate the girl. She will also be linked with the schemes provided by the govt."
