Jail for van driver who tragically hit and killed his 2-year-old daughter
A man who tragically hit and killed his two-year-old daughter while driving a delivery van without a licence has been jailed. He was sentenced to 12 weeks' jail and banned from driving for three years on Wednesday (16 July).
On the day of the fatal accident (13 March 2023), his wife was initially driving the rented delivery van – with the man, their son and daughter in the vehicle – to the Woodlands Street 32 area to deliver parcels.
After the couple made some deliveries, the man asked to drive the van to several other blocks to clear the remaining deliveries quickly so the family could have lunch. When the man drove off, the van was too close to the side of the road and it made contact with the foot of his wife as well as the stroller resulting in his daughter being run over.
The couple cannot be named to protect the identity of their surviving child.
The man was on the run for an unlicensed moneylending offence at the time of the accident and previously fined for unlicensed driving. You can read more of the events in court in the link.

Family holds balloon release for brother and sister killed in Detroit vehicle crash
Family members of a brother and sister who were killed in a crash earlier this week came together on Friday to remember the duo as they come to terms with what happened. Less than 72 hours ago, Catone and Joshaundra Scott were killed when the vehicle they were in crashed into a furniture building in the early morning hours of July 30. Police believe the driver was traveling at a high rate of speed. A fourth person in the vehicle was listed in critical condition at an area hospital. "I sat at the edge of my bed in disbelief. I had to hear it over and over again, and even when I still heard it, I still didn't believe it," said their cousin, Angel Brinson. Family members say it hasn't hit them that the siblings are gone, especially since Catone Scott, a father of five, was released from prison hours before the crash. "I (had) seen them that same day, like 5 o'clock, coming from Woodward and Manchester, buying his (Catone Scott) outfits," said Kevina Scott, a cousin. The family says it has been a rough few years as they've lost multiple family members. Two weeks ago, they buried an aunt. "It's no breathing in between. It's like we trying to figure out why we getting hit so hard," Kevina Scott said. The family says the siblings were full of life and were close. They say that while Catone Scott was in prison, Joshaundra Scott was the one who stepped in to help his children. As they honor the two people, they seek respect from the community. They also have advice for Metro Detroit residents. "Stop speeding, it's not worth it. You can get your life snatched away just like that," said Brinson.

Manhunt under way after 4 killed in Montana bar shooting
A suspect is on the run after four people were killed in a shooting at a bar in the US state of Montana, authorities say. The Montana Division of Criminal Investigation confirmed to the BBC's US partner CBS, that the shooting happened at The Owl Bar in Anaconda at around 10:30 local time. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) said it was "responding to a shooting where multiple parties have been shot at a business in Anaconda". Anaconda is a town of almost 10,000 people in southwestern Montana, 109 miles (175km) west of Bozeman. The Anaconda-Deer Lodge County Law Enforcement Center named the suspect as Michael Paul Brown in a social media post, adding he is "believed to be armed and dangerous". Montana Governor Greg Gianforte said he was monitoring the response to the incident. "Please join Susan and me in praying for the victims, their loved ones, and the brave law enforcement officers responding to this tragedy," the governor said on social media and he and his wife, Susan Gianforte.
