‘Mission Asmita': UP Police busts pan-India conversion, radicalisation network; 10 held
LUCKNOW: Acting under the state government's stated 'zero tolerance' policy on organised crime, Uttar Pradesh Police on Saturday claimed to have dismantled a pan-India network allegedly involved in illegal religious conversion, radicalisation, and financial facilitation.
Ten suspects were arrested from six states, following the disappearance of two adult sisters from Agra in March.
According to officials, an FIR regarding the disappearance of two real sisters, aged 33 and 18, was lodged at Sadar Bazar police station, Agra, in March and later transferred to the district cyber police station for technical investigation. Sections 87, 111(3), and 111(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with Sections 3/5 of the Uttar Pradesh Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Act, 2021, were invoked.
Investigators said evidence pointed to a wider organised operation spanning multiple states.
DGP Rajeev Krishna said the action was part of 'Mission Asmita,' an internal initiative launched to tackle emerging challenges, including alleged forced or deceitful religious conversions, online radicalisation, and financial channels exploiting so-called 'love jihad' tactics (a politically charged term, the use of which remains under official investigation).

Police teams were dispatched to West Bengal, Goa, Uttarakhand, Delhi, Rajasthan, and within Uttar Pradesh, and arrested the following 10 suspects (names and aliases as provided by police; their exact roles are under verification):
Aisha (alias S.B. Krishna) – Goa
Ali Hasan (alias Shekhar…) – Kolkata, West Bengal
Osama – Kolkata, West Bengal
Rehman Qureshi – Agra, Uttar Pradesh
Abbu Tariq – Khalapar, Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh
Abdur Rehman – Dehradun, Uttarakhand
Mohammad Ali – Jaipur, Rajasthan
Junaid Qureshi – Jaipur, Rajasthan
Mustafa (alias Manoj) – Delhi
Mohammad Ali – Jaipur, Rajasthan (duplicate listing by police under verification)
DGP Rajeev Krishna said, 'In a crackdown, 10 suspects were arrested across six states, exposing a sinister web of terror financing and radical recruitment. The network was funneling money through the dark web to support extremist activities and 'love jihad' operations, adopting tactics resembling the signature style of ISIS. Preliminary findings suggest the group had active ties to banned outfits like
PFI
and SDPI, with handlers connected to Pakistan-based operatives. Agra emerged as one of the key hubs of this network, where radicalisation modules were being developed and funds distributed.'

Panchkula police bust heroin smuggling network operating across state borders
1 2 3 Panchkula: The police claimed to have busted a well-organised heroin smuggling network that was operating across state borders. The crime branch-19 team, headed by inspector Nirmal Singh, has so far arrested five accused, including the key mastermind, Harpreet Singh alias Billa. A case was registered under the NDPS Act along with Section 111 of the BNS, which pertains to organised crime. According to ACP crime Arvind Kamboj, the case first came to light on Feb 9 when crime branch-19 arrested Rohit, a resident of Dhakoli, Punjab, from Sector 20, Panchkula, with 9.56 grams of heroin. During interrogation, Rohit revealed the name of another member of the network, Mohan Sahu, who was subsequently arrested on March 10 from Khark Mangoli. Further questioning led to the arrest of a third accused, Santosh Gupta, also from Khark Mangoli. As the investigation progressed, a fourth accused, Prince, a resident of Amritsar, Punjab, was identified and arrested. The police were on the lookout for the prime accused, Harpreet Singh alias Billa, for a long time. On July 22, he was finally nabbed after persistent efforts by the crime branch team. He is currently in police custody on a three-day remand. Preliminary investigations reveal that this gang operated in a highly organised manner, forming a supply chain to distribute heroin in both Punjab and Haryana. Harpreet Singh is believed to be the central figure controlling the network and has three previous cases of drug trafficking registered against him in the two states. During the remand period, police are interrogating the accused to uncover further details about the network, identify additional suppliers, and conduct raids at suspected locations.

Security lapses exposed as Jaipur Metro coach vandalised
Jaipur: An unidentified miscreant breached the Mansarovar Metro Station yard late Tuesday night and defaced a parked coach with graffiti, prompting questions over surveillance gaps in Jaipur Metro's security infrastructure. Metro authorities discovered the vandalism early Wednesday morning when the train was taken out for daily operations. The coach, stationed in an outer yard area overnight, was spray-painted with English words and symbols. Officials immediately filed an FIR at the Jaipur Metro Rail Police Station. "A young man is believed to have entered the yard under the cover of darkness and painted on the coach. The act was discovered around 10:50 PM," a metro official said. The train was parked since evening and was scheduled to resume service at 5:30 AM. Preliminary investigations suggest that the graffiti was done in a blind spot—an area not covered by CCTV cameras. Metro station authorities confirmed that the affected section of the yard lacked adequate surveillance. Jaipur Police also expressed concern over longstanding vulnerabilities in the Metro's surveillance system. "The CCTV network is patchy and far from foolproof. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 15 most beautiful women in the world Undo Several areas—including parts of the yard—remain outside the camera coverage," said a senior official. "We raised this issue with Metro authorities in the past, but no corrective action was taken." The incident has not only raised alarm over physical security but also highlighted systemic lapses in inter-agency communication. Police officials said the lack of comprehensive CCTV coverage leaves the metro system exposed to vandalism and potential security threats. Metro officials said they are reviewing security protocols and will consider police recommendations for upgrading the surveillance network. The accused remains unidentified. Police are analysing available footage from nearby cameras and have launched an investigation to track down the suspect.
