‘Mission Asmita': UP Police busts pan-India conversion, radicalisation network; 10 held
LUCKNOW: Acting under the state government's stated 'zero tolerance' policy on organised crime, Uttar Pradesh Police on Saturday claimed to have dismantled a pan-India network allegedly involved in illegal religious conversion, radicalisation, and financial facilitation.
Ten suspects were arrested from six states, following the disappearance of two adult sisters from Agra in March.
According to officials, an FIR regarding the disappearance of two real sisters, aged 33 and 18, was lodged at Sadar Bazar police station, Agra, in March and later transferred to the district cyber police station for technical investigation. Sections 87, 111(3), and 111(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with Sections 3/5 of the Uttar Pradesh Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Act, 2021, were invoked.
Investigators said evidence pointed to a wider organised operation spanning multiple states.
DGP Rajeev Krishna said the action was part of 'Mission Asmita,' an internal initiative launched to tackle emerging challenges, including alleged forced or deceitful religious conversions, online radicalisation, and financial channels exploiting so-called 'love jihad' tactics (a politically charged term, the use of which remains under official investigation).

Police teams were dispatched to West Bengal, Goa, Uttarakhand, Delhi, Rajasthan, and within Uttar Pradesh, and arrested the following 10 suspects (names and aliases as provided by police; their exact roles are under verification):
Aisha (alias S.B. Krishna) – Goa
Ali Hasan (alias Shekhar…) – Kolkata, West Bengal
Osama – Kolkata, West Bengal
Rehman Qureshi – Agra, Uttar Pradesh
Abbu Tariq – Khalapar, Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh
Abdur Rehman – Dehradun, Uttarakhand
Mohammad Ali – Jaipur, Rajasthan
Junaid Qureshi – Jaipur, Rajasthan
Mustafa (alias Manoj) – Delhi
Mohammad Ali – Jaipur, Rajasthan (duplicate listing by police under verification)
DGP Rajeev Krishna said, 'In a crackdown, 10 suspects were arrested across six states, exposing a sinister web of terror financing and radical recruitment. The network was funneling money through the dark web to support extremist activities and 'love jihad' operations, adopting tactics resembling the signature style of ISIS. Preliminary findings suggest the group had active ties to banned outfits like
PFI
and SDPI, with handlers connected to Pakistan-based operatives. Agra emerged as one of the key hubs of this network, where radicalisation modules were being developed and funds distributed.'

Probe Agency Busts International Tech Support Scam Operating From Chandigarh
The Chandigarh Zonal Office-I of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has unearthed a major international tech support scam following overnight search operations on multiple illegal call centres across the Chandigarh Tricity region. The searches revealed a network of bogus tech support firms duping foreign customers by falsely claiming to provide software services on behalf of reputed technology companies such as Microsoft, HP, and Arlo. These call centres had set up overseas shell companies to collect fraudulent payments through payment gateways, which were subsequently routed back to India via formal banking channels and hawala networks. One such company under ED scanner is FSAL Technologies Pvt Ltd, allegedly operated by Faisal Rashid Peerzada. ED officials discovered that FSAL was managing a fake overseas tech entity-Bios Tech, registered in the US. Despite prominently displaying support services for Microsoft and HP printers, Peerzada was unable to furnish any valid license or agreement from these companies. FSAL had complete backend control of the Bios Tech website and was actively monitoring and directing payment flows, the ED said. Further digital forensics revealed that FSAL's website shared an IP address with a spoof of Geek Squad-an American tech support brand. Officials confirmed that the company was hosting this fake site without authorisation or licenses from the original brand owners. In another significant lead, companies Terrasparq and Visionaire, allegedly operated by Sahu Jain, were also found involved in similar scams since 2016. ED found that Terrasparq claimed to support a US-based firm CTS Mobility, owned by Jain's sister. However, investigators say there were no legitimate agreements in place. Jain's emails and WhatsApp chats reportedly revealed fraudulent tactics like generating fake Microsoft pop-ups and charging unsuspecting foreign customers for non-existent services by misusing their credit card data. The websites of these companies falsely claimed to offer high-end services like device management, DaaS (Device as a Service), and network support, but conspicuously lacked any legitimate company or promoter details. Investigators also flagged manipulated images of plush IT offices uploaded on the websites-images that bore no resemblance to the actual call centre locations. Multiple call recordings and technical data are now being analysed, confirming fraudulent operations. ED officials stated that further investigation is ongoing to identify the full scale of the fraud and other associated entities.

Refused more servings of chicken and Chinese food, Mumbai man attacks wife
The Mumbai police Wednesday arrested a 38-year-old man for allegedly trying to kill his wife after she could not serve him chicken and Chinese food for dinner. The man, identified as Ajay Arun Dabhade, reportedly hit his wife, Swati Dabhade, 37, with a rod on her head during the altercation. The incident reportedly took place on July 3 at the couple's residence in Trombay Koliwada. According to the Trombay police, the woman sustained head injuries and was rushed to Shatabdi Hospital, where she received treatment. Her condition is now stable. The Trombay police are investigating the matter. In her complaint to the police, Swati stated that when the family was having dinner on July 3, Dabhade asked her to serve him more chicken and Chinese food. 'Swati told him that she could not serve him more as the food was over,' a police sub-inspector said. Enraged by her response, he allegedly picked up an iron rod and hit her on the head. After her recovery, she approached the police and filed a formal complaint. Following her complaint, the police charged Dabhade under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS), including sections 109 (attempt to murder), 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt), 352 (assault), and 3(5) (common intention), and arrested him. The police also booked his mother for allegedly supporting her son. According to the police, their investigations have also revealed that Swati filed a complaint against her husband and in-laws on June 1 this year on charges of dowry harassment. 'Dabhade had been pressuring her to withdraw the case against him and his family. Swati has alleged that Dabhade was also angry at her as she refused to bring Rs 5 lakh from her father's house to run his money-lending business,' another police officer said.
