Union Minister and Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) leader Chirag Paswan on Saturday (July 5, 2025) remembered his late father Ram Vilas Paswan on his birth anniversary as a man who was the powerful voice of the poor and deprived people.
The party workers paid floral tributes and recalled Ram Vilas Paswan as a leader who struggled an entire lifetime for the creation of an egalitarian society.
'Today is the birthday of my revered father, Ram Vilas Paswanji. This day has been like a festival for us, and today is also Sankalp Diwas (day of resolve) for every leader and worker of the party to work towards social justice, making Bihar a developed State, and integrating the deprived sections of society into the mainstream, bringing his ideas to reality,' Mr. Chirag said.
The main function was organised in Hajipur, the Lok Sabha seat which Ram Vilas won eight times. At present, this seat is represented by his son Chirag who garlanded a life-size statue installed near the Hajipur Circuit House.
Several political leaders and Union Ministers remembered Ram Vilas on his birth anniversary, including Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Bihar BJP State president Dilip Jaiswal, Janata Dal (United) leader and MP Rajiv Ranjan alias Lalan Singh, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Republican Party of India (Athawale) president Ramdas Athawale and others.

Mr. Chirag also participated in a community kitchen organised by the party distributing food to the needy. Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai also paid tribute by garlanding the statue.
'When he was alive, I never thought that I would face this day when he will not be around. Being his son, pictures from those days just come to my mind when we used to celebrate his birthday every year and the time I used to spend with him. I am trying my best to follow in his footsteps,' Mr. Chirag said.
He also pointed out that Bihar International Trade Organisation (BITO), which he started in 2023 is a platform that provides an opportunity to the people of Bihar living abroad to do something for their State. 'Through BITO, we provide a platform for the people of Bihar residing overseas. Today, for the first time, I formally dedicate BITO to Bihar,' Mr. Chirag said.
Mr. Chirag's uncle and former Union Minister Pashupati Kumar Paras, who heads the Rashtriya Lok Janshakti Party (RLJP), celebrated the occasion in Patna at his party office. Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader and former Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav also attended the function.

SC writes to centre to vacate official CJI bungalow still occupied by ex-Chief Justice Chandrachud

The Supreme Court has asked the central government to urgently vacate the official residence meant for the Chief Justice of India, which is still occupied by former CJI Dhananjaya Y Chandrachud, nearly eight months after his retirement. read more The Supreme Court has taken the unusual step of asking the Union government to urgently vacate the official Chief Justice's residence, which is still occupied by former Chief Justice of India (CJI) Dhananjaya Y Chandrachud, reported the Hindustan Times. In a letter dated July 1, the Supreme Court wrote to the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA), requesting that Bungalow No. 5 on Krishna Menon Marg in Lutyens' Delhi — the designated house for India's sitting CJI — be handed back immediately. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD 'I am to request you to take possession of Bungalow No. 5, Krishna Menon Marg, from Hon'ble Dr. Justice DY Chandrachud without any further delay as not only the permission that was granted for retention… has expired on 31st May, 2025, but also the period of six months provided in Rule 3B of the 2022 Rules has expired on 10th May, 2025,' the letter from a Supreme Court official to the MoHUA secretary stated. Justice Chandrachud, who served as the 50th CJI from November 2022 to November 2024, continues to live in the Type VIII bungalow nearly eight months after retiring. His two successors — Justices Sanjiv Khanna and the current CJI Bhushan R Gavai — have chosen not to move into the Krishna Menon Marg house and have stayed in their previous official residences instead. According to the letter, Justice Chandrachud had written on December 18, 2024, to then CJI Sanjiv Khanna, seeking permission to stay at 5 Krishna Menon Marg until April 30, 2025. He explained that although he had been allotted Bungalow No. 14 on Tughlak Road under Rule 3B of the Supreme Court Judges (Amendment) Rules, 2022, renovations at the new house were delayed because of pollution-related construction bans under GRAP-IV.

"Multi-disciplinary centre being built to promote fusion of Tibetan, Indian ancient wisdom": Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan

Dharamshala (Himachal Pradesh) [India], July 6 (ANI): Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan on Sunday extended birthday greetings to the Tibetan Spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama, on the occasion of his 90th birthday. Addressing the event celebrating the Dalai Lama's birthday here, the Union Minister said that a multi-disciplinary centre (Dalai Lama Centre) based on the Nalanda tradition is being built in Bihar's Bodh Gaya to promote the fusion of Tibetan and Indian ancient wisdom. The Dalai Lama Centre will provide an opportunity for people from all over the world to study his philosophy and vision, the Minister added. Union Minister Ranjan said, 'A multi-disciplinary centre based on the Nalanda tradition is being built in Bodh Gaya in my state of Bihar to promote the fusion of Tibetan and Indian ancient wisdom. It will provide an opportunity for people from all over the world to study your philosophy and vision and be inspired by your lifelong contributions.' 'I wish you a long and happy life. May your message resonate in the world and bring peace to countries and peoples suffering from conflict and discontent,' the Union Minister added. The 90th birthday celebrations of the 14th Dalai Lama are being held at the Tsuglagkhang temple in Dharamshala in Himachal Pradesh, with Union Ministers Kiren Rijiju and Rajiv Ranjan (Lalan) Singh and other dignitaries. The dignitaries seated on the dais, along with the Tibetan spiritual leader, also included Hollywood actor Richard Gere. Monks, devotees, and international guests gathered for the celebration to honour the life and teachings of the Dalai Lama, who is widely regarded as a global symbol of compassion, non-violence and interfaith harmony. Meanwhile, Tibetan Buddhist monks living in exile offered special prayers at the Dorjidak Monastery near Shimla at Panthaghati this morning to mark the 90th birthday of the 14th Dalai Lama. The occasion was marked by solemn rituals, long-life prayers, and symbolic offerings led by a young boy monk, Nawang Tashi Rapten, recognised as the reincarnation of the Taklung Tsetrul Rinpoche, the head of the Nyingma school of Tibetan Buddhism. The boy monk also cut a ceremonial cake as part of the celebrations, offering prayers for the spiritual leader's long life. The Dalai Lama, born as Lhamo Dhondup on July 6, 1935, in Takster, a small farming village in northeastern Tibet, was recognised as the reincarnation of the 13th Dalai Lama at the age of two. He was formally installed as the spiritual and temporal leader of Tibet on February 22, 1940, and was given the name Tenzin Gyatso. The term 'Dalai Lama' is Mongolian, meaning 'Ocean of Wisdom'. In Tibetan Buddhism, Dalai Lamas are considered manifestations of Avalokiteshvara, the Bodhisattva of Compassion, an enlightened being who chooses to be reborn to serve all sentient beings. After the Chinese invasion of Tibet in 1949, the Dalai Lama assumed full political authority in 1950. He was forced to flee into exile in March 1959 following the violent suppression of the Tibetan uprising. He has since lived in India, along with over 80,000 Tibetan refugees, continuing to advocate for peace, non-violence, and compassion. For over six decades, the Dalai Lama has been a global ambassador of Buddhist philosophy, compassion, peace, and interfaith harmony, continuing to inspire millions worldwide. Celebrations were held across Tibetan settlements in India and abroad, with many also expressing hope that the Dalai Lama's lineage will continue through a recognised reincarnation in the future.
