Jharkhand: CPI (Maoist) Manish Yadav with ₹5 lakh bounty killed in gunfight; another arrested
Another red rebel was arrested during the operation, he said. "Manish Yadav, who was carrying a reward of ₹ 5 lakh on his head, was killed in the gunfight with security forces. Another Maoist, Kundan Kherwar, was arrested," Palamu DIG YS Ramesh told PTI.
Kundan is stated to be carrying a bounty of ₹ 10 lakh on his head.
However, Ramesh said that the reward on Kundan's head is yet to be verified.
The encounter between security forces and Maoists broke out in a forest in Dauna under the Mauhadand Police Station limits on Sunday night, he said.
The operation was conducted barely two days after two Maoists, including JJMP supremo Pappu Lohra, who was carrying a bounty of ₹ 10 lakh on his head, were killed in an anti-Naxal operation by security forces in the district.
On May 24, Lohra, the chief of the proscribed Jharkhand Jan Mukti Parishad (JJMP), a Maoist splinter group, and his associate Prabhat Ganjhu, the sub-zonal commander of the organisation, were killed during the operation.
Ganjhu was carrying a bounty of ₹ 5 lakh on his head.
The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and the Jharkhand Police conducted the joint operation in the Ichabar forest region, falling under the jurisdiction of the Latehar Police Station.
Lohra was wanted in 98 cases, comprising murder, extortion, and arson, across several districts such as Lohardaga, Gumla, Chatra, Palamu, and Latehar.
Ganjhu was wanted in 15 cases, according to Ramesh.

UPSC aspirant caught using unfair means during govt job exam, barred for 3 years
A civil services aspirant has been barred for three years over the alleged use of unfair means during a government job recruitment exam. Besides, her candidature for the current year's examination also stands cancelled, the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) announced on Friday. "As the candidate has violated the rules of the Examination and is found to be guilty under the rule of the Examination - 12(1)(h) 'being in possession of or using unfair means during the examination'," the UPSC said in a post on Linkedin. The commissions announced the cancellation of the aspirant's candidature for this year, and said she was debarred from appearing in all future examinations conducted by the UPSC for a period of 3 years. The UPSC said that the decision was in line with standardisation of penalties, and also shared a document outlining how violation of rules is dealt with. "Any candidate found guilty of indulging in unfair means or misconduct during examinations faces strict disciplinary action as per rules, including debarment from future examinations, as the strictest action," UPSC Chairman Ajay Kumar was quoted as saying by news agency PTI. The official termed UPSC 'an epitome of merit and fair system' and said that the commission ensures that candidates get selected purely on merit basis. The action against the UPSC aspirant comes over an year after the commission cancelled former IAS probationer Puja Khedkar's provisional candidature. Puja allegedly misrepresented her identity and used forged documents to clear the 2022 civil services examination. She submitted fake Other Backward Class (OBC) and disability certificates, and claimed that her family income was ₹6 lakh per annum, to qualify for the OBC non-creamy layer category. A detailed probe later revealed that her father had declared assets of ₹40 crore when he contested general elections as an Independent, and her family owned several immovable properties and vehicles. Former Pakistan PM Imran Khan criticised Army Chief Asim Munir, accusing him of imposing "Asim Law" and collapsing law and order. Maoist leader remanded in 14-day custody
Hyderabad: A day after arresting Sri Vidya, a state committee member of the Dandakaranya Zone, Miyapur police produced her in a local court on Friday. The court then remanded her in custody for 14 days and sent her to Sangareddy prison. After staying secretly for a few days, she moved to Hyderabad in June, taking a house to rent in a multi-storey apartment block in the Youth Colony in Miyapur. The Special Intelligence Bureau (SIB) of the Telangana police received a tip-off that the senior Maoist leader Sri Vidya was taking shelter in Hyderabad. Through their sources, the police discovered that she was staying in Miyapur. The police are expected to submit a petition to the local court seeking permission for her custodial interrogation.
