How Ed Sheeran helped Dua Lipa win copyright lawsuit

Yahoo28-03-2025
Dua Lipa has won a lawsuit that claimed her song 'Levitating' copied the melody of a 1970s disco track.
Songwriters L Russell Brown and Sandy Linzer sued Lipa in 2022, alleging 'Levitating' infringed on the copyright of their songs 'Wiggle and Giggle All Night' (1979) and 'Don Diablo' (1980).
Judge Katherine Polk Failla determined the shared musical phrase was generic and not protectable under copyright law, referencing similarities to melodies used in operas by Mozart, Rossini, and the Bee Gees.
The judge cited Ed Sheeran's 2023 victory in a similar case over his song 'Thinking Out Loud', which established that basic musical elements are generally not copyrightable.
Brown and Linzer's attorney plans to appeal the decision, which arrived five years after Lipa released her album Future Nostalgia, which featured 'Levitating'.

Lady Gaga Finds the Perfect Labubu For Her Hermès Bag

Unless you're living under a rock, you have likely been subjected to this year's Labubu craze. If not, the trend—ignited by tweens—goes a little something like this: You collect these fuzzy little plushy-monster charm things, and then affix them to your chicest bag—like an Hermès Kelly or Birkin, or a classic Chanel flap. All the stars are on board with the cutesy accessory, from Dua Lipa to Rosé. Some of the most exclusive Labubus have even sold for over $10,000. But leave it to Lady Gaga to find the most on-point one yet: The singer was spotted out and about in Malibu yesterday with a custom Labubu adorning her sleek black Kelly bag. Her special black and red Labubu? It was modeled after Mother Monster herself, naturally. According to the fan account La Maison Gaga, the custom gothic-glam Labubu was designed by the Los Angeles-based arist Marko Monroe, and features the little creature in a DIY'd ruffled red outfit that is reminiscent of the one Gaga wears in the 'Abracadabra' music video. Whether Gaga commissioned the Labubu or it was gifted to her remains a mystery, but one thing is for sure: The resemblance is uncanny. (Well, as much as one can resemble a spooky looking creature.)

I Tried The Skin-Renewing SPF Dua Lipa Takes On Holiday – And My Skin's Never Been Happier

We hope you love the products we recommend! All of them were independently selected by our editors. Just so you know, HuffPost UK may collect a share of sales or other compensation from the links on this page if you decide to shop from them. Oh, and FYI — prices are accurate and items in stock as of time of publication. As a pale, ginger Scottish person, if there's one thing that's a complete and utter non-negotiable in my skin care routine, it's a brilliant SPF. The problem is though, not all sunscreens and suncreams are created equally. Some feel greasy and seep through your make-up, others clog your pores and result in a summer of pimples that just won't quit. And then, god forbid, you accidentally buy an SPF that isn't sweat proof and you end up with a burn. If there's one person I'll trust the judgement of, however, when it comes to holiday skin care (although we should be wearing SPF all year round people!), it's the queen of vacationing herself, Dua Lipa. And fortunately, on her recent trip to Sicily, the New Rules singer gave us a glimpse of her holiday essentials – with one notable skincare product making the cut. In the background of a holiday snap of an Aperol spritz shared to Instagram, we can see Dua has been using Augustinus Bader's new SPF product, The Suncreen SPF 50. I've written before about the wonder brand that is Augustinus Bader – the skin care company whose products Dua Lipa has reported that she 'can't live without', so much so that their Eye Patches and The Rich Cream have a permanent place in her handbag. It's no surprise then that the singer has opted for the brand's latest product as her preferred sun protection. The brand has a serious celebrity fanbase – Victoria Beckham, recently collaborated with them on her own skincare line and concealer. Alexa Chung and Margot Robbie are fans of the skincare's patented TFC8® technology too – a proprietary blend of natural amino acids, high-grade vitamins and peptides that supports the body's capacity to renew. So naturally, if it's good enough for that list of stars, I was willing to try it out. The lightweight broad-spectrum sunscreen is non-greasy and fast absorbing – a welcome escape from other sticky formulas. Given that the brand markets their SPF as suncare meets skincare, it promises to protect you from UVA and UVB ray s as well as renewing your skin at the same time – both of which I found super effectively when I tried it out for myself. From having tried out (and now permanently using) Augustinus Bader's award-winning Rich Cream, I know that my skin drinks up their TFC8 blend and looks better for it – and The Sunscreen had the exact same effect. My skin looks lifted, fresher and I feel great about going make up free – and most importantly, there's no chance of my face getting burnt. I'm lazy at the best of times when it comes to my skincare routine, so having a product that does the work of a serum, a moisturiser and an SPF all in one is my kind of product. When I do wear foundation over the SPF, the sunscreen doesn't seep through – leaving my base looking flawless (if I do say so myself x) all day. Although the product comes with a hefty price tag, what I will say for The Suncreen is that a little goes a LONG way and for all the celeb hype surrounding Augustinus Bader, it certainly lives up to it!

Dua Lipa Proposes the Perfect Festival Outfit at Sunny Hill

Dua Lipa kicked off her festival, Sunny Hill, in Kosovo with much to celebrate. This week, the pop star was granted Kosovo citizenship. It 'feels like my two sides are now one,' she said. 'It completes the duality I have always had within. I love this country and this means so much to me and my family.' The ceremony, led by President Vjosa Osmani, saw a choir of children sing Lipa's own song 'Levitating.' She wore a chocolate brown, sculptural leather mini dress from Ferragamo, with Paris Texas pumps, and a red shoulder bag. Then, it was straight into three days of partying at Sunny Hill, where Lipa brought a Glastonbury-coded wardrobe. Photographed speaking to a fan, the Radical Optimism singer wore a white and black graphic Sunny Hill festival t-shirt, with blue Re/Done frayed denim shorts and a Chrome Hearts western black and gold belt, with a favorite pair of Miu Miu black leather buckle boots. Lipa headlined the Friday night of the fest, with other acts including Shawn Mendes, Fatboy Slim, and Peggy Gou. Her costumes continued the glamorous, glitzy thread of her Radical Optimism tour, where she donned custom Attico mini dresses and Jean Paul Gaultier bustiers, a sheer, sexy bridal Balenciaga gown and a show-stopping Chanel bodysuit that paid homage to archival dress worn by Christy Turlington in the '90s. For Sunny Hill, she opted for a silver and white Dilara Fındıkoğlu bra and corset with silvery fringes and a glittery burgundy bodysuit with tassels. After her performance at Sunny Hill in Prishtina on Friday, Lipa wrote on Instagram: 'Sharing this night with you all, in the city that shaped me, surrounded by so much energy, joy, and pride…it's hard to put into words what it means.'
