State to spend ₹4,820 cr to develop religious sites
Religious sites that will get a makeover include the Shri Tuljabhavani Temple in Dharashiv, for which the state government has approved ₹ 1,865 crore. Tuljabhavani was the reigning deity of the Maratha empire. The Mahalaxmi Temple in Kolhapur will be restored at a cost of ₹ 1,445 crore. Mahurgad, a religious site in Nanded district with three mountains in Mahur (the Renuka Mahar Devi Mata Temple is one of the three temples at the site), will be developed at a cost of ₹ 829 crore, while the Trimbakeshwar Jyotirlinga Temple in Nashik, and the Shree Jyotiba Devasthan in Kolhapur, have been allotted ₹ 275 crore and ₹ 259 crore, respectively.
The government has also earmarked ₹ 147 crore for the development of seven Ashtavinayak Temples in Maharashtra: Mayureshwar Temple (Morgaon), Siddhivinayak Temple (Siddhatek), Ballaleshwar Temple (Pali), Varad Vinayak Temple (Mahad), Chintamani Temple (Theur), Vighneshwar Ozar Temple (Ozar) and Mahaganapati Temple (Ranjangaon). The Girijatmaj Lenyadri Temple, the eighth Ashtavinayak temple in the state, is not in the list.
The decision to spend ₹ 4,820 crore on religious sites comes at the time when the state government is struggling with a financial crunch.
On establishing an authority for the Simhastha Kumbh Mela at Nashik in 2027, Fadnavis said, 'A draft ordinance has been approved to establish the Nashik-Trimbakeshwar Kumbh Mela Authority. The 12-yearly spiritual event is expected to attract millions of devotees. Their participation is expected to be four to give times higher than the 2015 turnout of 2.5 crore.'

Fadnavis turns to Shah, Nadda to discuss errant Mahayuti leaders
MUMBAI: Barely three months into the formation of the government, Dhananjay Munde, a senior minister from the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), resigned from the cabinet, following a controversy over the alleged role of his close aide Walmik Karad in the murder of Beed sarpanch Santosh Deshmukh. Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis has had to douse many fires subsequently after several senior leaders from Mahayuti parties (Shiv Sena and NCP) kicked up a storm with their actions (see box). Dhananjay Munde (PTI Photo/Shashank Parade) (PTI03_04_2025_000024B) (PTI) Now, in order to put his house straight and unwilling to take any chances ahead of the local body elections planned after the monsoons, Fadnavis has decided to crack the whip. On a recent two-day tour to New Delhi, the chief minister reportedly discussed the issue with the top leadership of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). People in the know have told HT that Fadnavis met union home minister Amit Shah and party president JP Nadda during his visit. 'The CM is of the opinion that action needs to be taken against the errant ministers to set an example. The controversies around these ministers have dented the image of the government, which the CM has conveyed to his two deputies. He is expected to hold a meeting with both early next week,' said a senior BJP leader, requesting anonymity. The leader however clarified that immediate action was unlikely as it will 'give fodder to the opposition to rejoice and seek credit for action taken on them'. 'The government faced embarrassment when then food and civil supplies minister Dhananjay Munde resigned, after his pictures related to Beed sarpanch Santosh Deshmukh's murder popped up on social media, leading to anguish in the Maratha community. Any further resignations will only deepen the embarrassment for the government, which has not even completed a year,' said the leader. 'A reshuffle of portfolios held by the tainted ministers is likely over the next few weeks. They may be given insignificant portfolios.' After meeting Fadnavis on Thursday in the Capital, Maharashtra NCP president Sunil Tatkare reached Pune to meet the NCP president Ajit Pawar on Friday evening. While details of the meeting have been kept under wraps, people in the know shared that it went on for a long time. 'The state president had a meeting with the chief minister late on Thursday evening. He then met Ajit dada, which indicates something is going on. But whether the party wants to take any action against its minister is yet to be seen. Ultimately, it will be the party's decision,' said a senior NCP functionary, wishing anonymity. Earlier, speaking about the possible resignation of Kokate, Ajit Pawar told mediapersons in Pune on Thursday that 'it is the prerogative of the CM'. 'I will meet the CM on Tuesday and discuss the matter with him,' said Pawar. Fadnavis turns to Shah, Nadda to discuss errant Mahayuti leaders Second chance for Munde? Deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar said on Friday, in Pune that if Dhananjay Munde comes out clean of the allegations levelled against him, he could be inducted in the cabinet. Munde was recently given a clean chit by the Bombay high court from the allegation of corruption in the purchase of agricultural equipment when he was agriculture minister until October 2024. 'We are looking into another case related to him in which a judicial probe is going on. If he gets a clean chit from it, he may be inducted back in the cabinet,' said Pawar.

Ajit Pawar meets Chhava Sanghatna activists, assures decision about Minister Kokate
Pune, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar on Friday said he would speak to NCP leader and cabinet colleague Manikrao Kokate, who is in the eye of the storm after a video purportedly showed him playing a card game on his mobile phone in the state legislature, and will take an appropriate decision. Ajit Pawar meets Chhava Sanghatna activists, assures decision about Minister Kokate Activists of the Chhava Sanghatna, who were assaulted by NCP workers last week, met Pawar and demanded Kokate's ouster. Workers of Ajit Pawar-led NCP had on July 20 assaulted Chhava Sanghatna activists in Latur, where the latter confronted party leader Sunil Tatkare over a video purportedly showing state agriculture minister Kokate playing a game of rummy on his mobile phone during the recently concluded monsoon session of the state legislature. Chhava Sanghatna leader Vijay Ghadge, who was severely beaten up in the clash, and other activists of the Maratha outfit met Pawar at the government guesthouse in Pune. Speaking to the reporters, the deputy chief minister said, "During the meeting, I told him that whatever happened was wrong and those who were responsible for the incident were asked to resign from the post." Pawar was referring to NCP leader Suraj Chavan, who was asked to step down as the party's youth wing president after the attack in Latur. "I will talk to Minister Manikrao Kokate on Monday and will take an appropriate decision," he said. Following the meeting, Ghadge said Pawar spoke to the Latur superintendent of police and instructed him to take strict action against those who assaulted the activists. "We asked Ajit Dada about the attack that took place when we went to give a memorandum to the party's state president, Tatkare. We asked him what our mistake was. He condemned the incident and told us that he had initiated an action the same day against the persons involved," he told reporters. Ghadge further said that they have sought the removal of Kokate as the state agriculture minister. "We told him the state has got a most insensitive agriculture minister and he should be removed from the cabinet. He sought time till Tuesday and assured that he would make a decision," he claimed. He further warned that if no action is taken against Kokate by Tuesday, the Chhava Sanghatana and farmers will stage a protest against Pawar. Senior NCP Minister Chhagan Bhujbal, who was in Pune, said both sides were at fault. PIT SPK ARU This article was generated from an automated news agency feed without modifications to text.
