Annual Black Bear Festival returns to Plymouth
The National Black Bear Festival is underway this weekend. The highest density area for black bears in the nation is the Albemarle-Pamlico Peninsula which Plymouth is in the middle of.
The annual festival kicked off Friday, June 6, 2025. 'It's the best. Everyone walks by, everybody speaks,' Shedrick Moore with Mo's Turkey Legs said. 'Everybody's having a good time. It's just, it's a great time every time we come out.'
The weekend is a big one for local businesses too as thousands of people come to the small town. 'I love seeing everybody come from all over North Carolina to come support our small businesses,' Shelby Craddock of Sassy Sisters Boutique said. 'I'm with Sassy Sisters Boutique and we'll be here all day tomorrow.'
Some vendors said they're confident their food is going to be a fan favorite at this year's festival.
'When they come get my food, then they'll know that the colonel's not the only one that fixes food that is finger-licking good,' Owner/Operator of Springers Backyard Grill and Catering Jerry Spencer said. 'If you didn't get it from Springers, you didn't get no good food. So, when you come down to the festival, you look for me right across from the police station. Just sniff and smell to bring you right to this place.'
The festival runs all day Saturday, beginning with the Run With the Bears 5K.

NFL Reporter Takes Shot at Bill Belichick, Jordan Hudson in Hall of Fame Speech
North Carolina Tar Heels football coach Bill Belichick has been on the receiving end of jokes from comedians and plenty of his peers regarding his relationship with Jordan Hudson. Now, the future Hall of Famer is evidently getting verbal jabs thrown his way by an NFL reporter. Mary Kay Cabot of received the Bill Nunn Memorial Award on Friday from the Pro Football Writers Association. The long-time reporter talked about her start in the industry, covering Bill Belichick's team. After recounting how Belichick would call and yell at her for things she wrote, she took one shot at him. 'Now I totally understand why Bill gave me such a hard time. I was 28 at the time and he just couldn't relate to a woman that old.' Mary Kay Cabot of on Bill Belichick yelling at her when she wrote something he didn't like Related: The joke is obviously in reference to Jordan Hudson, who is believed to be 24 years old. It has been reported that Belichick, now 73 years old, and Hudson started dating around 2023, when she would have been just 22 years old. Both Hudson and Belichick have been the subject of public scrutiny and mockery this year. The inner circle of the Tar Heels' coach has been 'deeply concerned' about Hudson's influence over his life. Belichick's ex-girlfriend also confronted Hudson at a Christmas party last year. Related: The Browns' reporter is just the latest person to take a shot at Belichick, joining a list that includes former New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski. While the two have largely avoided making headlines this summer, that will likely change once North Carolina's season kicks off in September. Mavericks star Kyrie Irving sets personal goal amidst injury recovery
Dallas Mavericks star guard Kyrie Irving has been off the NBA floor since suffering a torn ACL in March earlier this year against the Sacramento Kings. The former no. 1 overall pick out of Duke has managed to keep the fans entertained in his absence, however, which has included live streams of him playing video games, reacting to highlights in his career, amongst other things. However, recently, in a stream with popular Twitch content creator Kai Cenat, the former Blue Devil announced a more personal goal off the court that he would like to accomplish, one that you simply have to give him props for wanting to achieve. ""Pretty soon, I'll be back in school, bro, I'm gonna go get my degree," Irving said to Cenat. "For me, I want to participate in a lot of the larger conversations. I want to be able to not only just read my contracts, but I want to be able to help others. I want to be able to give you sound advice that comes from not just lived experience, but from education.' Given that Irving only spent one year at the Durham, NC school before heading to the NBA, it makes sense for the guard to want to finish out his education. Whether it's at Duke or at another school, that information remains up in the air, it will be interesting to see whether Irving goes through with his goal, as his return currently is predicted to be in January of 2026.

Jordon Hudson takes subtle shot at NFL reporter after Bill Belichick crack
Jordon Hudson, the girlfriend of North Carolina Tar Heels coach Bill Belichick, appeared to throw some subtle shade at a Cleveland Browns beat reporter on Saturday. journalist Mary Kay Cabot cracked a joke about Belichick in apparent reference to Hudson while giving a speech after she received the Bill Nunn Memorial Award. The honor is given to a reporter from the Professional Football Writers of America for their "long and distinguished contribution to pro football through coverage." Cabot started to cover the Browns in 1991, when Belichick initially took over as head coach. She said in her speech that Belichick would call her and "yell" at her if she wrote something he didn't like. "Now I totally understand why Bill gave such a hard time," Cabot added, via "I was 28 at the time and he just couldn't relate to a woman that old." Hudson is 24 years old and the relationship she has with Belichick was a huge talking point in the spring after an interview with CBS. Hudson appeared to try to shut questioning about their relationship down, and it shed light on some of the inner workings of what's going on between the two. Hudson appeared to catch wind of the joke and reposted criticism that others had. "Not much of a 'laugh,'" the critical post read. "No wonder so many have contempt for the media, especially those who want to be the story rather than roprt (sic) on the story." The frenzy around Belichick and Hudson's relationship has simmered since its peak in the spring. Belchick is gearing up for his first season as the Tar Heels' head coach. North Carolina's season begins on Sept. 1 against TCU.
